I grew up visiting the Algiers Regional Library, so many memories of research assignments , reading…read moreclub meetings and using the computer for the very first time! This review and 5 star rating is my experience participating in the "Who Dun It?" Book Club. As the name implies the "Who Dun It?" Book Club is a murder mystery book club. We meet once a month (virtually) to discuss the selected book. It's hosted by the clever, funny, and calm- natured librarian, Shelby. I joined the book club in May 2021 to accomplish two goals 1) Read more 2) Meet new people. The "Who Dun It?" Book Club accomplishes both and so much more. Murder mystery is a new genre for me however the books selected have been interesting and the meetings attendees are fun, articulate, and well- read women and men with unique opinions. Intellectual, adult conversations for the WIN! I look forward to meeting with this group as we share our critiques of the selected reading and author. New members are always welcome! It's free to join and the books selected are usually available at several NOPL locations, or ebook for FREE! The virtual meetings occur every 3rd Thursday of the month. Hope to see you at the next meeting! http://events.nolalibrary.org/event/5006741

For #ThankYouThursday, I have to write a stellar review for the library. This is the library I use…read moremost often, and I love having its presence here in the neighborhood. Pre-COVID and during COVID, I could always rely on the library (and this branch) as a place to go to discover books and indulge my love for reading. They have a great selection of reading material, plenty of computers to use, and an incredibly pleasant and helpful staff. There are so many things to appreciate at the library from their cool programming (book clubs, crafting, etc.) to the free resources (webinars, books, audiobooks, magazines, etc.) to the physical space that is welcome and free for all to use! I've found my love for reading again during quarantine, and I've used the library to rent E-books and online magazines. I just checked out a physical book and had to call to set up a pickup time and the person on the phone was lovely and helped me set it up and answered questions. They keep expanding their options for everyone to use the library during COVID. Libraries are essential to our society and I have to thank them for so much! #ThankYouThursday

They do a…read moregreat job of hosting events of interest to the neighborhood, such as childrens' story time and author nights, complete with wine and appetizers. If you're not a resident of the neighborhood, Hubell Library is just one of many reasons to take the ferry to historic Algiers Point. Don't miss it!

A little library history... this is one of only 3 Carnegie libraries…read more(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnegie_library) still standing in New Orleans; the others are Nix on Carrollton and the Children's Resource Center on Napoleon. This is also one of the few NOPL libraries that didn't flood in K, but was still closed for several years because of roof/structural damage. This location is small but since the renovation (reopened 2013) it is a really efficient use of space. I love all the light that comes in through the windows. And that it is walking distance for many of the neighbors. The location is named after a library activist (don't you love them!) who ensured that the branch wasn't closed in the 1960s. Her family still maintains a separate website (from nutrias.org) for this location: http://www.hubbelllibrary.org/ While this is definitely not the closest public library for me, I usually try to make it over in December for their Christmas tree/wreath sale that benefits the library.
