I was happily surprised. The owner, who has lived here in Decatur all his life, has many years of experience cutting hair and was very gentle as he did his job. I could tell his hand movements were sure and steady, and that he knew exactly what he was doing. When I looked in the mirror after he was done, my haircut was perfect. I had been paying over $50 in Chicago for a good haircut! Another thing I like about Decatur; how affordable things are here! My price was about $16 and I got a shampoo after the cut too! I look forward to coming back here as often as I need to and I urge you to try this little barber shop and keep them in business. Also, please tip the person who cuts your hair when you're happy with the way they cut it! People often don't realize that a tip for a haircut is highly appreciated and polite. It's somewhat rude to not tip. And I only say this because when I tipped him he seemed very surprised, like he didn't expect it. But he should! He's a virtuoso with his scissors! Experienced, friendly, and professional. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed with your cut! The price, I thought, was a little high for a child's cut, however, I loved the way it turned out. My son looked great. The Barber was a very sweet older man. I called to make an appointment and spoke with Michael who was friendly on the phone. I came in for mani/pedi an hour before closing. Michael did my pedicure, Maria did my gel manicure, hence the M & M. Michael is on the quiet side but I loved the pedicure because it was so relaxing for me. I'm hoping to bring my husband for a no polish pedicure because he needs it, lol. Maria is more chatty and I noticed there were regular customers she knew on a first name basis. I gave them four stars out of five because the place is a bit divey and my manicure wasn't perfect but I'd rather patron a place where the people are nice compared to a salon where they do 100 perfect but are trashy people. Loved the haircut, the beard trim, and the conversation; the trifecta of a great barber! Didn't really need another beard trim before I left Mattoon, but went back anyway to get a touch up. So when I came back last week before my wedding reception, I knew I had to make an appointment. At first, I thought I was building up last year's experience in my head. Definitely not the case. If you ever see our photos, you might be distracted by how beautiful my wife looked. But if you take a moment to check out the guy next to her, you'll see Jason's attention to detail.
