Jeff Stricker is an amazing real estate agent, but also just a stellar and genuine person to be around. You can tell he genuinely cares about finding you the right home, and has an incredible eye for detail, not to mention a wealth of experience. It should speak for itself that every time we met a selling agent and mentioned Jeff as our buying agent, they had tons of nice things to say about him, and always assured we were in good hands! Throughout our successful home buying process in a very competitive market on the peninsula, Jeff skillfully guided us without ever being a whiff of pushy, and patiently found us an amazing home at a great value (compared to so many others we had seen in the area after searching for *years*), for which we're so grateful. Can't imagine a better agent than Jeff, we highly recommend him! read more

It's hard to imagine a better real estate agent than Jeff. Jeff is thorough to the point of overkill. In addition to being a real estate agent Jeff is a lawyer. As he told us, none of his deals has ever been to court or arbitration. He covers all the bases. The best part was his recommending what work we should do on our house and what we should skip. Then he brought in all the contractors and inspectors, got bids, and managed all of the work. We literally moved out and Jeff took care of everything. When it was time to go to market Jeff spent hours going through listing and process strategies for taking bids. We ended up getting a price far higher than we expected, and way higher than price per sq foot comps in our area. Jeff was a pleasure to work with. I recommend him without any qualifications. read more

We recently purchased our first home through Jeff & Steve, and cannot recommend them enough. Jeff is really a pleasant person and a great friend to have during an otherwise emotionally intense transaction, which can also get stressful at times. A few aspects about Jeff & Steve set them apart from most other agents that we have met over the course of a year or so. (We met with 2 other agents before going with Jeff & Steve). My wife & I met Jeff & Steve at an open house they were running. Both of them were very honest and upfront about everything regarding the house. We didn't get the house (went through an online agency & had bid much lesser than asking as per our affordability), but we decided to work with them instead. I am a hands-on guy and pored over every aspect of the transaction. Jeff showed immense amount of patience as I asked him a million questions (down to some small aspect of the contract). On some days, I must have called Jeff a dozen times. Jeff always pointed out things that we may not have even thought about like the wooden siding of a home that was not in its best condition. He would actually ask us to walk away from some houses because of their location and not get caught up by the super-duper interiors. Also, he did not push us to increase our budget beyond what we had originally stated. I really appreciated that Jeff would give me the facts and his opinion, but would not influence me. In the end, we ended up purchasing a fabulous home at a reasonable price well below asking. He was present for all the inspections and orchestrated all the work behind the scenes. Finally, Jeff has been attentive and responsive to us well after we moved in. One great benefit of working with Jeff & Steve was their network of allied service partners, like the mortgage bankers and insurance agent. After thousands of calls, 40+ houses, 8 months, 2 offers and 1 home purchase , I consider Jeff a trusted advisor and see this as a long term business relationship. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Jeff to sell my childhood home, as my mother was moving to an apartment. We did interview other agents, but after our first meeting with Jeff, we knew he was our go-to guy: knowledgeable, patient, courteous, detail-oriented, friendly, and professional. Highlights of our experience with Jeff: * He was always well-prepared with information about comparable homes for sale and market trends. * He was patient with our many questions, and never rushed our discussions. * He made a thorough and detailed list of recommendations for pre-sale work, including painting, landscaping, re-finishing hardwood floors, replacing hardware, handyman tasks, cleaning, and staging - then handled all of the details to get the work done. * He had a well-established team of vendors that he's worked with previously, trusts, and recommends. * He prepared professional marketing materials with carefully crafted descriptions and photos. * As an attorney, he educated us on all of the legal issues, and made sure we avoided anything that might later be cause for legal action. * He walked us through contracts, proposals, disclosures, and other documents, taking time to address our questions and concerns. * He was extremely responsive via email and phone, and sent frequent updates throughout the prep, sale, and escrow processes. * He orchestrated the entire process, always telling us what he needed (approvals, checks, proofreading, etc.), and circling back to confirm events as they happened. The process went as quickly as we could possibly hope for: My mom moved out on May 15, and on May 16 workers were at the house, ready to get started. The listing posted on June 18, realtor open house that Friday, public open house events Saturday and Sunday, and we met with him at his office the next Wednesday to receive presentation of multiple offers -- ultimately selling the house just above asking price. Start to finish, just 9 weeks including pre-sale prep, sale, and escrow. We are extremely happy with the results, and would highly recommend Jeff to anyone selling in the Los Altos area. read more

After going through 3 previous subpar realtors, I was referred to Jeff and Steve by a co-worker, and immediately, my husband and I could see the huge difference in quality between the previous realtors and Jeff. We had been planning on putting down an offer on a house that no one seemed to want in downtown Mt View; I had a feeling that it was worth $50k less than asking, and the previous realtor was pushing us to offer more. To my surprise, Jeff stated that it was worth $80k less than asking and visited the house within 2 hours of my call with him. He had a list of 10 things wrong with the house and encouraged us to wait 30 days to see if the price did drop. It did indeed drop $80k to the price that Jeff said it was worth, and I knew then that Jeff would be the right realtor for us to work with. We passed on that house for all the reasons that Jeff listed, and he helped us see many more houses after that over the course of 9 months or so. Throughout it all, Jeff was patient and always answered all my emails and calls immediately. Being first-time homebuyers and looking for a single unit house in a competitive area, it was important for my husband and me to have a real estate agent that we could always reach and could walk us through the process. Jeff would always point out many more things about a house than we would notice on our own and be able to tell us how much work would be need to be done when moving in, giving us estimates that we could take into consideration. He and Steve's great reputation proceeded them when we visited open houses as selling agents would recognize their names right away. Also, because Jeff was previously a lawyer, he was able to translate a lot of the paperwork and disclosures for us as well as generally being very thorough. Even now, after we've purchased our first house with their help, Jeff still always checks in and answers any questions that we have immediately. They sent us a gift card within the first week! Through the ups and downs of our first time buying a house, we were always thankful to have Jeff as a dependable source of knowledge and support that we could always count on. We're really glad to have met Jeff and Steve and highly recommend them. read more

We recently worked with Jeff & Steve for selling our house in Cupertino....based on this experience I would recommend them highly, they are very thorough, persistent and meticulous in their work. Our real- estate transaction went into a loop and required a lot of patience and very diligent work on their part..and they came through with shining colors. read more

I was referred to them through a realtor-friend from the East coast who interviewed about 10 RE agents for me. They were in the top 3 for her. I then interviewed them myself and ultimately chose Jeff and Steve b/c of their credentials/track record, their ability/willingness to "just do it" and get things done so we didn't have to deal with the mundane (we basically just had to say "yes" or "no" to a series of questions), and, finally, their "bedside manner" (this was our first sale, so we didn't know the process). They (and their team) really took care of everything from cleaning/staging and landscaping/resodding to marketing through to the close. They delivered ~75 interested parties each day over the open house wknd, we received a dozen bids by Wednesday after that wknd, and ultimately accepted a bid that was 30% above our asking price. Granted, I think our list was low, so adjusted for that, I think they helped generate a final price that was a healthy 12-15% above what we expected. I would certainly hire them again to sell my next home. read more

Our family had the privilege of working with Jeff Stricker to recently help us find a home in Los Altos near the Village. I cannot express how delighted/lucky we are to have worked with Jeff, but will try to give some color on our experience. * Knowledge of Los Altos: Jeff provided us a market understanding of the 'micro-neighborhoods' in LA, and literally street-by-street assessments for areas of specific interest. Jeff is excellent at discerning value and what components of a specific property add-to/subtract-from value. This of course came into play as Jeff advised on bidding strategies for various homes. * Understanding the buyer's needs: Jeff spend a lot of time working with my family to understand what factors were important to us in choosing a home. This was done though conversations as well as walkthroughs he arranged for homes of interest. * Eye for detail: Following on the previous bullet, during walkthroughs, Jeff would point out things in the home that wouldn't work for us. I am not sure we would have realized them ourselves. E.g. This room will not comfortably fit a king bed - the staging bed is a twin; the driveway is curved and will be difficult to back out of; it is a beautiful home, but there is not enough closet /storage space to fit your needs; you don't hear the road noise now, but you will in the winter. In isolation, these seem like minor points, but in aggregate these assessment are invaluable, we ended up trusting Jeff more than ourselves to find 'issues' - this is a good thing. * Chickens: Had to call this out separately. There was one home we decided to put a bid on (and lost). Jeff somehow found out that one of the homes nearby had some chickens raised on the property. Jeff walked around, saw the chickens, and also asked neighbors about how noisy they were. He made sure there would be no noise concerns before we made our bid. * Advocacy and Integrity: There were a couple of homes we wanted to pull the trigger on (of course bidding well above list), but Jeff talked us out of because he felt the value wasn't there. He didn't' think the home was right for us. I cannot tell you how refreshing this is. It also saved us a lot of emotional fatigue. This sentiment should be appreciated for those currently looking/bidding in this competitive market. * Full service: It was enough that Jeff helped us find/purchase a home. But Jeff goes beyond the extra mile, providing us and coordinating various contractors/bids we needed to renovate the home after purchase. We got a broker + master contractor coordinator, all for the 'price' of a broker. I think it is clear that we really value and respect Jeff as a broker. Certainly there has to be a personality fit between buyer and broker, but I encourage anyone reading this post to contact Jeff and at least setup an interview for his services. I am confident we would not have found the right home for us as quickly and efficiently, at market value without Jeff. I hope some of you found this post helpful. Happy hunting! read more

What a grade-A a--hole! I just called the listing agent for a home listing in Palo Alto - Steve TenBroeck. After less than 10 seconds, he starts scolding me with "I don't have time for this now, I don't have time for questions, I don't have time to show you the property, I don't have time for..." Afraid of stooping to his level, I was inclined to say thank you and just hang up. But, I decided to pursue my conversation to ask if I could see the house that he has listed. He says he does not have time to show me the house and wanted to refer me to one of his colleagues. The agent that he referred me to was even more impolite. She answers the phone with "hello! Who's this?! What do you want?" You'd think that someone considering a multi-million dollar listing in Palo Alto would be afforded the courtesy of a few minutes (seconds at least) of the listing agent's time. Especially, when said agent decides to answer his phone rather than letting it go to voicemail. This experience adds fuel to the fire that real estate agents are [fill-the-blank] who are antiquated who feel like they are entitled to their 3% of the transaction value - whether they did anything at all to earn the commission. read more

We interviewed many realtors for sale of our Los Altos home and Jeff was the most knowledgeable. He knew the market inside out and was the only realtor to provide a fully comprehensive list of improvements to enhance our home and maximize its value. After signing the listing Jeff and Steve became our "project management team", getting quotes and scheduling all the contractors work around our daily living in the home. We even independently got a quote on our own for comparison but it was not as good as the one provided by Jeff & Steve's contractor. And any minor contractor corrections or touch-up were no problem. They were all very friendly and helpful. Jeff was sensitive to the pay-back value of improvements which kept us from overspending. Jeff & Steve marketed our property well and we were very pleased with the offer we accepted and the quick sale of our home. read more

My husband and I recently bought our first home with Jeff. As first time home buyers, we had an idea of what we wanted but had very little insight into what we wouldn't want. Jeff helped us pass on homes we would have been willing to settle on due to the current market. He was amazing at finding us homes within the parameters of our needs- a large yard, one story if possible, near good schools, no HOA, etc. Jeff was very patient in doing home visits with us and was never pushy on any particular house and instead worked to find something we would be truly happy with. I'm very glad he was so thorough with the entire home buying process-in regards to explaining all of the steps and paperwork involved as I am quite sure we would have been lost in the process without his help. As I've been told, our experience was not atypical in the bay area as we put our offer in and decisions were made the following day. Jeff was great at ensuring our transaction went as smoothly as possible and that we would be providing our strongest offer to increase the chances of us getting the home. Since moving in, he has continued to help us settle in with referrals to contractors and giving general advice. It's been a wonderful experience and I highly recommend his team. read more

Jeff and Steve are a real estate A team. I worked with them to sell a house and would highly recommend them. -- they took care of everything. Staging, touch ups, paint -- the entire project was managed by them with little involvement by me. -- They managed the whole process. All I had to do is approve/sign. -- They are detailed oriented. Nothing was forgotten, neglected or delayed. -- They did a great job market the house, manage the offers and get an optimal price. read more

If only we could give six stars! Jeff was recommended to us by a close family friend and was a phenomenal advisor throughout the entire process. From finding great properties, helping us narrow down our search, patiently walk through the process, and providing great negotiation advice, we felt we always had an edge in a very dynamic market. Even after the ink dried, however, Jeff's passion and expertise showed through as he was super responsive and gave us terrific recommendations for home improvement professionals and other vendors. We would not hesitate to work with him again, and have already recommended him to close friends. read more

Jeff and Steve did a great job selling my house in Los Altos. They have an in depth knowledge of the Los Altos area and RE market. They know what it takes to get top $. From consulting, to marketing, to staging, to negotiating, to handling the transaction, Jeff and Steve took care of everything very professionally. I never had to call either of them twice to get an issue addressed. I expected that any RE agent would just want to make a quick sale and move on. Jeff and Steve wanted to do whatever it takes to get the most out of the property. They inspected my property and made suggestions on how it could look to be better marketed. It was up to me what I wanted to do or how much I wanted to spend, but they had data to back up what the return on my investment would be. I highly recommend Jeff and Steve! read more

Having made the decision to sell our house, we started a search for Realtors with help from friends, other non-local agents and personal research. It's not a simple process but it didn't take long. Jeff and Steve were placed quickly in the finals and were ultimately selected to manage the sale of our house. It was a wise decision. The initial presentation made by and Jeff and Steve was organized, thorough and professional. My wife and I were confident the team would do a great job of promoting and selling our house. Once selected, Jeff and Steve provided a detailed schedule of daily activities which worked well with our personal needs. They also provided a contingency plan which was never required. The plan was closely monitored by Jeff, Steve and Catherine, their professional assistant. They all did an excellent job arranging the house and property for all activities related to the sale. The decisions were all ultimately ours. Jeff and Steve were always pleasant and never pushy. They were helpful and tolerant of my personality. It was a relatively non intrusive process and was professionally managed throughout. We had few, if any, worries and someone was always available to answer any questions. Jeff and Steve provided a proposal describing a method to sell our house. The method worked and the house sold above asking price shortly after initial offers were accepted. We sailed through the whole process and were delighted with the outcome. Without hesitation, we would recommend the team of Jeff and Steve for your Realtor needs. We sincerely believe you will be pleased with the outcome. read more

Dear Jeff and Steve: Where do Loan and I start in thanking you for the great job you two did in selling our Los Altos home? First and foremost, we want to let you know how happy we are with the service you two provided. You were always accessible and easy to work with throughout the process which was very important to us with our busy work lives. We were always kept informed and updated on the home sale process with clear, consistent communication. Knowledge of the market was important to us and you two certainly know the Los Altos market well. The price range you suggested to us was spot on and we were delighted when our home sold at the top end of the range. We know that your approach of "blitzing" the market with all your advertising tools had a great deal to do with the result achieved. We always were confident you were working diligently toward your stated goal of getting us the most money for our home. Lastly, your follow up was great and everything was handled from start to finish in a timely, efficient manner. This gave us great confidence we were in good hands and reduced our stress level greatly. We would be happy to be a reference for you with any future potential clients. Sincerely, Chris La read more

Open letter to prospective home sellers and/or buyers: Re: The Jeff Stricker/Steve TenBroeck team I'll begin by stating the very obvious: buying or selling a home is an extremely complex transaction (more accurately, it's an intricate series of complex transactions). Not only do you have the financial and business aspects to deal with, you also have psychological and emotional factors to contend with as well. I'm guessing the residential real estate business is unique in this regard. Additionally, the scope of these complexities doesn't really increase/decrease very much depending on the size/location/price of the property. Whether you're moving across the street, or moving across the country, you'll still have to deal with the same business, financial, psychological and emotional factors. The best approach is to envision yourself as the CEO of a team you've assembled to accomplish the buying/selling of your home. The most important member of that team will be your real estate broker. The Jeff Stricker/Steve TenBroeck team should be your choice. Experience? They've got it. You've already read it on their website or in their portfolio: Over 20 years of experience. Here's what that means to me: They've seen every kind of real estate market over the years, from the sizzling to the moribund. They know what approach to take through any kind of market condition. Professionalism? Absolutely. Every financial and business aspect of my recent home selling transaction was thoroughly researched and prepared, and fully explained to me. Anyone who has bought and/or sold a home knows there are mountains of paperwork to read, and sign and/or initial. Probably the worst thing you could hear would be "Oh, sorry--I forgot that particular form...I'll send it to you later." That won't happen with Jeff and Steve. Every document you need from beginning to the end of the process will be given to you, fully explained and in the proper sequence. Communication? You won't do better than Jeff and Steve. Not only does this include walking you through all the documentation, as mentioned in the previous paragraph; it also includes answering all your questions and addressing all your concerns. Any question you have, from the most complex to the simplest (and I can tell you I asked several stupid ones as well!) will be addressed and answered by them; and they'll make sure you're satisfied with the answer. And this isn't limited to the financial and business aspects. Let's face it: moving is a stressful experience. In those times when I was stressing out, Jeff and Steve listened to me, and assured me I was by no means unique. In short, hire Jeff Stricker and Steve TenBroeck to be your real estate brokers. In my opinion, you cannot do better than these guys. To conclude, I should make it clear that I am not a marketing person trying to write a testimonial for Jeff and Steve. I'm simply a client, who was admittedly almost overwhelmed by this whole real estate process when I began researching brokers to sell my home. I feel very fortunate to have found the best, and I cannot recommend Jeff and Steve too highly. read more

We worked with Steve TenBroeck and Jeff Stricker of Alain Pinel to purchase our home in Palo Alto, CA. Note that Steve TenBroeck is 1/2 of the team of "Jeff and Steve". We worked more closely with Steve which is why this review focuses on him; however his partner Jeff Stricker is wonderful as well and any client would be lucky to work with either. Having worked with several realtors in the past, as well as having interviewed dozens, I have enjoyed working with Steve the most. He is a strong advocate, provides sound advice, and has deep knowledge of the Peninsula, having lived here all his life. He and his partner Jeff Stricker focus on four cities - Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Los Altos and Mountain View. If you are considering buying or selling a home in one of these cities, I strongly urge you to contact Jeff and Steve - you won't regret it! Most realtors are typically transaction-oriented and want to help you buy/sell a home as quickly as possible so they can pocket the money and move on to the next client. At least this is what I have found in my own personal experience. However, Steve does not fit this mold - from the very beginning, Steve patiently provided advice on which homes were solid buys vs. those which weren't. This was super useful information as my husband and I were first-time home buyers (I had previously owned a condo which had the benefits of an HOA, so knew nothing about single family homes). During the negotiation process, Steve moved quickly to keep the discussion moving with the seller, while filling in the gaps when we had questions on various legal documents. Post sale, Steve has delivered ongoing value, giving us access to his enormous list of contacts. Through him, we were able to find good contractors to help us fix our roof, chimney, and more. Recently Steve even welcomed my husband and I to his home to show us how he landscaped his yard (which is something we are currently trying to figure out how to do)! I highly recommend Steve TenBroeck and plan to work with him again when we are ready to sell our home and buy our next one. read more

Steve is amazing and I strongly recommend him. I worked with him for over a year as I was a picky buyer. He's very knowledgable and really taught me what to look for when going through a house. Many times, he convinced me to walk away when I just wanted to compromise and buy something to end the search. During the transaction, he worked hard to make the deal happen. And later, he helped me with a ton of things as I am a first time buyer. It was an absolute pleasure. read more

Whether you're a buyer or a seller, the Peninsula real estate market, particularly Palo Alto and Los Altos, is dynamic and challenging with competitive multiple offer transactions being the norm . To be successful requires representation by a realtor(s) that know and understand this market, that are well connected and respected by their colleagues, that are strong negotiators and that are hands on and completely conversant with the details of your transaction. Jeff and Steve are consummate professionals and fit the bill in all respects. They provided us with a detailed analysis of the market and a marketing plan that resulted in a sale price well over asking and which exceeded our expectations. They provided us with a cadre of experienced subcontractors with whom they've worked with for many years, which facilitated the preparation of our house for sale. They are easy to work with, always accessible and quickly respond to questions and concerns. Whether the issues are legal, financial, marketing or emotional, Jeff and Steve were always there for support and counsel. Our transaction went very smoothly from start to finish in large part due to their efforts. Jeff and Steve have our highest recommendation. read more

I am so pleased to share my great experiences working with Jeff and Steve. We have worked together now for four real estate transactions over the last 10 years, buying twice and selling twice. On the buying side, Jeff and Steve were always very patient with me, really listening to what I said and also what I didn't directly say about what I wanted. We looked at many, many homes, and Jeff and Steve would give advice like "if you identify more than 1 or 2 big renovation projects, it's probably not the right house", and "now's the time you should be most in love with a home, so if it's not really exciting you, it's probably not the right one." Guidance like this helped me connect with what was most important to me, rather than getting swept up in the frenzy of a hot seller's market. When I did find the right home this most recent time, working primarily with Jeff, his offering strategy really paid off. The market was very hot, so we put together a very competitive offer. Jeff suggested that just in case, though, we have a Plan B offer in our back pocket if the other potential buyers didn't come through. Darned if that wasn't exactly what happened -- I was the only buyer, and I got a great bargain. On the selling side, Jeff and Steve have a wealth of practical knowledge on how to get the best price for a home with the least hassle for the seller. This most recent time around, working within my budget, Jeff project-managed all aspects of prepping and staging so that I got multiple over-asking-price offers. Steve happened to be the buyer's agent for one of the potential buyers, and they both acted with great integrity in handling that potential conflict of interest. I cannot recommend their real estate service too highly. Jeff and Steve are a great pleasure to work with, and I am a very satisfied customer. read more

My family recently had the unwelcome task of selling our late mother's home in Los Altos. From coaching us on how to get the house in the best shape for sale, to managing that process, to executing a flawless go-to-market strategy, Jeff and Steve enabled us to realize the best possible outcome we could hope for--14 offers over our asking price and a closed sale over 25% above ask!!! We were immediately impressed by the professionalism that Jeff and Steve exhibited. They have a tremendous amount of knowledge of the Los Altos real estate market and decades of experience on both the buying and selling ends. We bought our house from Jeff about 11 years ago. When it was time to sell the same house, we opted to use Jeff for the sale. It was a great decision. From start to finish, Jeff offered us great advice on where to spend our money and on our various options for listing and pricing our home. On top of all that, Jeff and his assistant, Irma, managed all the work that was being done on the house, including getting bids and overlooking the work itself. We moved about 40 miles away and weren't able to get back and forth to manage everything that needed to be done. It was no probelm, they took care of it all. At the onset, we were told it would be about a 5 -6 week process and that is exactly what it was. We were very pleased with the entire transaction. I highly recommend using Jeff from a buyer of sellers perspective. He is smart and friendly, and always makes himself available. He's a true professional. read more
