We were very nervous before the surgery, and the quotes from other local vet's offices seemed overpriced. We got on Napa Humane's list and were originally scheduled for July, but they received a cancellation and got us in three months early. This wound up being a blessing because it gave me less time to worry about all the things that could go wrong during the surgery. On the day of the surgery, the receptionist was neither warm nor welcoming, which honestly added to the anxiety I was already feeling. However, the vet was fabulous- she was extremely knowledgeable about dogs in general, my dog's breed, and the many health issues they are prone to and did a wonderful job comforting my dog and me. I left her there feeling confident that the surgery would go swimmingly and that she was in good hands. She was, and it did! Something to note is that they don't provide post-surgical collars, so get one beforehand. We wound up getting a soft, inflatable one for Matilda, which was much easier to deal with than the traditional plastic cone. Napa Humane is committed to helping pet owners be responsible, and spaying and neutering are a big part of that. They offer an income-eligible program to residents of Napa, Lake, and Solano counties whose income level qualifies them for spaying or neutering at a significantly reduced cost. I really appreciate the fact that they do that, even though we did not qualify. I would recommend this clinic to anyone looking to get their pet spayed or neutered. They do a good job.

They then asked us to leave the room and let them euthanize my dog alone because we were too emotional. My son and niece stayed. As I waited I could here m6 dog screaming multiple times. I ran back in to see them laying on her and my dog was terrified. This was a horrible way to die. I wanted her to be comfortable and safe. My poor dog was neither, the was terrified during her final time. These people were horrible. I was trying to give my Dog peace and it turned into torture. I thought it was unusual that a single entity veterinarian still existed ANYWHERE, so I made an appointment to see the doctor having seen several vets on this issue previously. My dog has a pre-existing problem for which he will require surgery. When I pulled up to the address, I was unsure where the veterinary clinic was located - it was completely unmarked. I made an assumption that it was what looked like a renovated garage or side property. The door was locked. I was on time, so I wasn't sure what was going on. I rang the doorbell. Still nothing. After a few minutes, a gentleman (I'll call him the judge - you'll see why in a minute) came out and asked if I had an appointment. I told him I did. He led me to a table on the side of he house to fill out paperwork. He asked me three times to sit down, and I told himi I didn't want to sit down. This seemed to be an issue for him. I filled out the forms at which point he informed me that it would be a few minutes wait. Finally they came to take my dog. Romeo, that's my dog, was taken inside and I was told I had to wait outside. I was shocked by this and not just a little uncomfortable that I was unable to stay with my dog for the visit which consisted of establishment of care and an exam relating to his pre-existing condition. I asked if it would be alright to wait in my car. The judge responded by saying, "why, are you cold?" Rude, I thought. Yes. I'm cold. It's 50 degrees outside, overcast and windy and you've provided no place for animal owners to be made comfortable. Eventually the judge and the vet came out with Romeo, and I was told that my best option was to go back to the shelter where I'd gotten Romeo and ask for their help. In other words, no meaningful advice whatsoever. I should note here that at NO POINT during the visit was I able to speak to the veterinarian without the judge being present.The vet told me what a sweet dog I have. I know this. I was looking for veterinary assistance. What I got was a vet with an agressive bodyguard. As the judge assisted me with processing payment, he shared with me that he'd been in law enforcement for many decades and was now retired and available to help his wife. He then informed me that he had served as a judge for some or all of those decades. The dimensions of his personality began to fall into place. The feeling I got from him was that I wasn't trusted, I wasn't welcome there, but they loved my dog. Duh. My dog is awesome. After some time I took my dog back to a vet I've done business with before. He gave me a quote to perform the necessary surgery that Romeo requires. The quote was for $2500. On a whim, I thought I'd forward the quote to Animal Kingdom to see if the numbers aligned with what they would charge. The next day I got a call from the judge. He asked me how I'd be paying. I said credit card. He seemed very put off by that answer. He said if I were paying in cash he might be able to reduce the price but since I'd be paying with credit card I was out of luck.The judge then told me I since I'd already seen another vet, I should go back to them at which point he swiftly ended the call. All in all, the vet seems nice. The judge is...not the best person to be an assistant/receptionist/whatever the hell he's supposed to be doing there. He doesn't have the personality for it. And not allowing owners inside with their animals is, to me, very offputting. I won't be going there again.

On the advice of a friend who is a vet in another state, I got a second opinion from Dr. Carroll. It turns out that the test done at Silverado was inaccurate and his platelets were fine. So thankful I sought a second opinion here and have since moved all vet care over to them for my very much still-alive dogs. Dr. Carroll is a wonderful and thorough vet who truly cares and goes out of his way to communicate well with you through any health challenges you may navigate.

The manager said she couldn't reverse the charge and called police on me. I told the officer the problem he talked to them. So I never got reimbursed. I dont know about his other establishments napa west, but I imagine they are the same. Very poor business practices. I'd stay away from these places. Sneaking in fees and up sale. They even had one of the doctors fix his teeth. They took really good care of him during that procedure. About 2 years ago the team started becoming real sticklers about the heart worm medication I gave him every month. It was a nuisance but I figured it was a safety precaution as they explained to me. Then when my fiancé moved in with his 2 pit mixes it became pretty ridiculous. This vet office had policies that are incredibly strict around prescribing heart worm medication. And with 2 medium sized dogs and a little, the price of these meds is WILD. I know this inflexibility around policy is not typical since I've asked folks about their vet experiences and found that some vets will have you sign paperwork that says you understand the risk of not getting them tested every year in order to ensure the dog can stay on the flea tick heart worm meds. This strictness was also very different than my experience at Redwood Vet Hospital in Vallejo. I give my dogs their heart worm medicine every single month without exception. I never miss a dose. This vet office isn't really willing to work with dog owners and seems more loyal to their policies & money than trying to mitigate health risks & disease in dogs. They don't believe their customers who tell them that we don't miss a dose. They don't care if you understand the risks they're describing for a possible missed dose. They will proceed to talk to you like your dumb. I've experienced both Dr. Kafka & Dr. Brandwajn talking down to either me or my partner (over the phone) about how we care for our dogs. I used to work at a dog daycare and I understand that many, many owners don't really know how to properly care for their dogs. I feel for vets and what they have to see and deal with. But the way business is conducted in this office is not the way to make it better. I haven't seen Heather in the office for a while, I'm not sure if she still works there but she was one of the office staff who didn't treat me like I didn't know what I was doing and even leveled with me and said that if money was an issue I can get my 3 dogs vaccinated at the monthly SPCA clinic. She seemed to understand that the safety of the dog should be the priority, but when we took our dogs back for their next checkup at A4P after taking them to the vaccine clinic we were treated as if we were lying about them having been vaccinated. The amount of hoops we have to jump through just to get our dogs access to flea tick & heart worm meds feels like a scam. We've brought our dogs in just for a simple heart worm test or cytopoint shot and been quoted $1000+ for a wild amount of additional tests they wanted to tack on. I do not feel like this vet is trustworthy or has my dogs best interests in mind. Our experience at the last two visits has finally convinced us to change vets. Everyone we talked to led us to Dr Canton. This was in the height of the pandemic. As overwhelmed as they were, treating so many animals they managed to fit us in for a consultation. Dr. Canton and staff were compassionate and caring. Dr. Canton still had to remove one eye but was able to save the other. This was more than we could hope for. Our dog Daisy is back to being her bossy self and getting along great. This is a very professional team that does their best to provide the best care possible.
