A very good French restaurant. Started with French onion soup, which was good but not the best…read moreever. I found it a little sweet but it did all the basic well and is probably the best onion soup on the island. My main was a special of the day and definitely the highlight, dover sole grilled in butter and garlic. They had offered to prepare it however I liked but the waitress suggested it in this manner and I loved it. The fish was very tasty and the butter and garlic were great. Had creamed spinach with it that was also very good. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse. Nice strong flavour and relatively light dessert after three courses. They also had a good, reasonably priced wine list. Finally, found the service quite friendly and French without the bad parts of French.

Think about it. It's the 27th of June, i.e. mid summer and in a packed restaurant everyone is eating piping hot soup even as sweat beads are building up on their foreheads. The right amount of cheese to soup ratio. Cheese and onion perfection. We also shared some garlic snails and they were good. I only wish there were more of them! For the main we had the chateaubriand (the tenderloin fillet) and it was good. It was originally served rare when we ordered medium rare but this was quickly corrected. The staff were very attentive and service was good. The chateaubriand came with sides of mushrooms, fires or potatoes, veg and onion rings. We decided to instead order sides from the menu and got creamed spinach ( very good and you should order this! my wife raved about this.) fries ( crispy and salty as they should be) tomato salad ( It was ok but nothing to rave about) mushrooms ( again, ok but not something to go crazy about) and baby potatoes. (surprisingly they didn't charge us extra for changing our sides. Very impressed with this as I expected and was prepared to pay for this.) We wanted to have dessert however I was too stuffed! I will come back again for the soup and to try the creme brûlée. The wine list was also very good. We had the pinot noir and it was nice and generally we felt that the wine was priced very reasonably. Downside is the layout of the restaurant. Its very tight and you should try to get a window if you can ( i asked for this with the reservation but did't get this even though I was promised it.) My wife could barely avoid the guys ass next to us when she stood up! Thank goodness he wasn't one of those silent farters you get on airplanes! The tables are also too low and not wide enough. If you are above 4 foot in height and more than 150 lbs then you need to be aware that this restaurant is not built for seating comfort. Still, will I be back? You bet I will. The food is a 5. Good atmosphere and staff. Just a shame about the seating / table and it being too tightly packed. I will be back for the creme brûlée. It is calling me!

I came here tonight with a few work colleagues for a nibble after a long day at work…read more We had some queenies ( local isle of man seafood much like a scallop but smaller) see photo. These were tasty although did need a bit of salt and pepper added. Not sure about the chips ( french fries) it came with as think these were unnecessary and too heavy for this dish. The side salad with thin bread slices to dip in the sauce of the queenies was enough. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries to share and boy o boy were these good!! You should get this as something to share! These are awesome!! My colleague had a sausage and mash meal and said it was good. It looked nice.( see photo) Good decor and nice food. One of the nicer bars to eat at in central Douglas.

Bar George is a large bar in what used to be an old Sunday School building. Because of this, it's a…read moremassive open space that works well when the bar is busy, but can lend a slightly uncomfortable atmosphere when it's quite. The walls are covered in humorous, wine-based slogans that, although funny at the time, have since slipped from my memory. The bar specialises in wine and the whole back wall of the bar features as a massive wine rack. I took the cheats way out and went for their wine of the month, a dry rose, just so I wouldn't have to make any tough decisions! That said, I would love to come back and work my way through their wine list (this may take some time). The clientele on this occasion were largely office folks enjoying a Friday evening tipple. I didn't try the food but the menu looked interesting, if a little on the expensive side in comparison to other places on the Isle of Man.

We don't get to go here as often as we'd like, but that only helps to make it more of a treat. Its…read moresuch a lovely spot. The decor is quirky (without trying too hard as sometimes places that try to be quirky can be) and ambiance is lovely. whether you are seated in the backroom which is the cosiest I think, or one of the front areas, where you get a lovely view of the bay, it is a pleasure just to sit here. The staff are always friendly and pretty fast and so great to engage with, but I think one of the stars of going here is the food and coffee. The menu is inventive and will have something to please everyone, and so delicious for the most part. I tend to gravitate towards a favourite that they do... eggs in purgatory... but anything Ive tried has been great!

Wow. This place is a hidden gem…read more I only went for breakfast but they also do a bed and breakfast service. The customer service is next to none. The guy that welcomed us is eccentric and so friendly. The front door was opened before we even reached it and we where very warmly Welcomed and led into the dining room to sit at a table with an amazing view. The food was great and the you had plenty to choose from off the menu. I would probably go for the French toast next time as it looked awesome. Staff continually ask do you want coffee refills. They have a wee shop out the back selling gifts. Parking is on street and easy. A great place to go for breakfast and walk along the sea front. It's like being in another world. So good to be away from the pace of city life. Can't wait to go back.
