I have a problem. I really like greeting cards. I enjoy giving them (to those who appreciate them). I enjoy getting them (well, with a heartfelt message on it). While this particular JD's Hallmark Shop is not the closest Hallmark Shop to me, it is my go-to location for greeting cards and often other fun items which make great gifts nearest to my work. Unfortunately my wife and her family aren't into greeting cards, but I still make trips every month or two to this or another Hallmark shop. I typically have Crown Rewards coupons before I even step foot in the store. I enjoy getting a free Just Because card each month and then I think of which occasions I need a card for. A birthday. A wedding. A new baby. A thank you. A congratulations. A holiday. An anything. When you first enter the store, there are gifts immediately around you. The register is in the middle area near the front, and the cards are further back. The staff are also helpful when you ask them a question. If you need a mailbox, there is one at the post office in the back of the store (more about that in the next paragraph). Also, when you make a purchase, you are always asked if you want gold seals for free on your way out. They also sometimes have physical coupons they give you for your next order even if you don't have a Crown Rewards account. One unique thing about this store is that there is a full-service post office in the back left corner of the store. It is small but very handy whether you are mailing something, shipping something, or needing stamps or shipping materials. During my multiple visits to the post office, there were short lines and quick service. If I needed to get a manilla envelope though, they send me back to the Hallmark Shop cash register to request it and then to have the post office bill the Hallmark Shop (or the other way around). I then pay at the post office. Strange but if they have a system that works, all the power to them. I appreciate having both a post office and Hallmark Shop right near work. If you join Crown Rewards, you can earn points on every order, get rewards to save on orders, get free shipping on $30+ and my favorite part of Crown Rewards: occasional reward or bonus dollars, buy one get one free cards, and free monthly cards. I have learned that sometimes the bonuses and rewards do not work well in-store (especially at this particular Hallmark shop) though they often work well together online. I enjoy using the app, which I only learned about recently. Instead of printing up the coupons or showing each one individually from an e-mail, you can access them all in one place on the app, and some coupons even take place automatically without you even realizing (often the bonus points). read more

I was greeted when I arrived, but the two staff members were busy with our conversation, which only stopped once I returned to the counter to pay for my items. I come monthly to shop for personalized cards for friends and family. I was sad to see that most of the shelves were empty of cards, but there was a lot of merchandise for gifts and home decor you could purchase. I was able to settle on the cards that I needed and apply the coupons I did have. The value for what I pay is usually great because I can choose from a wide assortment, but sadly, that is not the case today. I hope there is no shortage of cards, as the staff suggested. Horrible retail hours. What kind of store is closed on Sunday? I used to live is a small town and a lot of store would be closed on Sunday, it drove me insane . It makes no sense. In the age of Amazon I would think retail stores would be making more of an effort... I don't have time to shop during the week so I guess I will order my ornaments from Amazon. Zero stars for customer service . The gentleman was kind and showed me where they just because cards are. The older white haired woman that checked me out, was so rude to me and so unfriendly she even said to someone have a good day and the person won't even respond to her now I know why. Their scanners don't work like every other Hallmark in the entire country. She was not happy that I did not want her fingerprints on my phone so I told her I would hold it. She didn't even say thank you when she handed me the receipt and I said I will never be coming back here and she actually said "Good". On another note, their store is too crowded and their card selection is very poor. Would love a contact from the actual owner of the store because you're going lose customers. read more

Love everything in the store... There's a really cool gifts to give. But, the employees tend to follow around their customers, seemingly like they're silently accusing them of stealing. I had an associate follow me closely the entire time I was in the store. It made me feel as though I was stealing... I'm an extremely honest person, and to feel like they thought that it was OK to trail so closely behind and watch over my shoulder every two seconds... It's unacceptable. read more

It was Valentines Day, 2/14/2023 in purchased Two cards $27.00 with tax. My father passed away 12/2021 and today his presence would and candy seperatebe missed. So, i wanted to get mom Whommwe ..(my wife and i have been taking care of my parents for the past 7 years. After purchasing the Cards and the PRICE, Iasked for a second bag because, one card was going to my Wife and one to my mother and they both were in the Truck, i had just purchased some candy at Sproutgs for gthe two of them and wanted to display. the card and candy seperate....So, I asked for a 3rd card bag ($.10) to put Moms candy in and ....I was rebuked and told NO SIR, we don't just hand out bags! I said ok, I will pay you for the bag...she said No sir We cannot mjust hand out bags.....I said you want me to buy another card??? I will Pay you formgthe bag...The Employee IGNORED me, I went next door to Spouts and picked- up a second paper bag, where I hasd just purchased the candy.....case solved...JD CARDS ON THUNDERBIRD IS A VERY DEMEANING STORE BY THE EMPLOYEES... I had just sent two letters overnight the exact same way at a post office the day before, so I knew exactly what I wanted. Out of the 3 front desk associates, only one lady was pleasant. The lady with grey hair and the guy were unbelievably rude! Completely demeaning with every word they spoke! I should have known it would be a crappy experience when I walked in the door. The old lady with grey hair was reaming a customer on the phone and when she hung up she continued to talk bad about the customer that was on the phone. I told the nice lady that I was a Crown Member and should have points to apply to my purchase on my account as well as my monthly free Hallmark card. She assured me that my phone number will look up my account. Keep in mind I spent well over $100 but when I asked at the register if they could apply my points and give me the free monthly card, the old grey woman refused to do so! I showed her that I was a crown member but she would not give me my promotions or coupons. I asked what could to get the promotion and the guy butted in and said, you have to call a number! Well, WTF number are you talking about?? I had to ask twice what number to call and they finally told me. I also had an email showing I could get a free coffee mug since I spent over $100. You would think I asked them for their first born child. They argued with me and said that's online only. I pulled up my email and showed them it clearly said in store. After sighs and dirty looks they finally gave me the ceramic coffee mug with no box, no paper, nothing to protect it. When I was searching for stocking stuffers that were different & fun I had to make a stop at Monty's Hallmark to see what new & cute stuff they had. I loved these! The kids did too, young & old :) I do have to warn you though that one of my nieces likes her sock monkey so much that my sister is threatening to make it disappear,,, as in to the bottom of a river, lol. Fortunately we live in a desert & that might be hard to do :) & my sister in law did have to warn my brother & I (we were seeing how close we could shoot at each others heads) that it was all fun & games until someone got hurt :D Can't wait to see what they get next! read more

Expect to find extraneous STUFF all over this store, presented in a completely messy, disorganized manner. It looks like someone's store room in their basement or attic. You literally have to wind your way through the store like it's an obstacle course. Even how to get to the counter to pay is not entirely clear. Their card selection stinks (and it's supposed to be a CARD store) and the service is terrible. It used to be nicely organized, but no longer. I will drive 10 miles out of my way to avoid going into this store. Unless you want to be thoroughly annoyed or you LOVE clutter, you're advised to steer clear of this atrocious mess of a retail establishment. read more

Love the fact that the Hallmark Shop has a post office as part of it. As it is more convenient to go there to mail a package than to the post office in my neighborhood, I've been using their mail services for several months. Every time I go in, the lady at the post office counter is pleasant and helpful in sending my packages out. Added bonus is after mailing a package, I'm able to look around the Hallmark Shop if there is something else I would want to purchase. Will be using this service for all my postal needs. read more

I stood at the counter for 30 minutes trying to mail something internationally. This doesn't include the time I waited in line... I get it, it's holiday and it'll be busy. But what is upsetting is their systems were experiencing issues which the employee couldn't begin to try to even fix. She had all the info and let me leave, saying she would get it to go through once things were rebooted. However, I get a phone call at 4:15 saying that it wouldn't go through and the ONLY WAY I can get a refund is if I make it in by 5. In rush hour.... I called back to ask if I could pick my items up and get a redund the next day. They picked up the line and then immediately hung it up. Do yourself a favor and go to a real post office. read more

Rude, Discriminating, and Profiling! I used to shop at this store but NEVER AGAIN! The man at the counter followed my husband (who is Hispanic) and I around the whole store, watching every move we made. There were a few other people in the store but he focused on only us. He made a very poor attempt at being "discreet" but would conveniently appear at every place in the store we were at and watched us suspiciously. Then, while he was ringing us up, I picked something up at the register to look at it and he stopped ringing up my items to stare at me until I put the item back. He blew it off thinking maybe it was a one-time thing. But again today my husband was shopping and the same guy followed him around the store, watching him suspiciously. I used to LOVE this Hallmark store but after being made to feel like criminals on more than one occasion, we will take our business elsewhere! read more

I have been shopping at this hallmark since I moved to Phoenix back in 2010 and before it was JD's Hallmark. I always received awesome service except when it came to the Hallmark Ornament premiere weekend! This is the third year in a row that something has gone wrong with my order. First year they lost my entire list and I had to pull the ornaments myself, granted the manager at the time was very apologetic about the mishap and helped me. So I came back for the customer service. Second year they sold the ornaments from my list that I had on hold, no apology. This year I went in to get my entire order instead of portions of it and they didn't put some of the ones that I requested in my bag. I called the store to see if they could pull the three that were missing and they said oh bring the list down and we'll re-pull them we don't have time now. I was shocked! On Top of that the lady who answered the phone stated what do you want us to do about it now???!!! Honestly, how about an apology for the mishap and pull the three ornaments that I'm missing and hold them until I get back there to the store. This was one of the absolute worst customer service experiences that I have had. Especially since I have spent quite a bit in this store for years. This year will be the last that I'm returning to this store and I will take my patronage to another Hallmark Store. read more

This store is wonderful. I hadn't visited this store in over a year, it used to be Monty's Hallmark, because the last time I went in there was really no merchandise selection and the customer service was HORRIBLE. But, I decided to try it again because I was looking for a specific anniversary gift. Much to my surprise the store has changed ownership and the shelves are PACKED with lovely items. I met both of the new owners Dean and Janine, (JD's), they are very nice. They were pleasant and they actually were the ones working in the store waiting on people. I told them what I was looking for and they offered suggestions. I purchased a beautiful figurine and frame. Kudos to the new owners and what a turn around from 1 year ago. I will definitely be going back due to the fabulous customer service and the AWESOME selection of merchandise. Way to go Dean and Janine! If you have not shopped here in a while give them another try you will not be disappointed. BTW, they also have a Post Office in the back of the store.
