KEVIN (AutoER 2838 SW ARCHER RD GAINEVILLE FL) - A RARE FIND - AN HONEST AUTO SERVICE MANAGER…read more I am used to inflated auto repair estimates recommending unnecessary work all the time. I thought my Kia dealer in Northern VA where I have been getting all my services done were not too bad but recently they told me that my brake pads only had 4mm left and gave a yellow rating. In addition to brake pad service (possibly new brake pads), they also recommended a brake fluid drain and flush and their quotes were eye-watering. I just moved to Gainesville, FL and put on another 10K miles without getting any work done after that check-up and thought I took some serious risks with the brakes but got away with it. Right after completing my move, I visited the AutoER shop on Archer road and Kevin agreed to provide a free inspection and estimates for any necessary work plus maybe an oil change (my Kia manual recommends a full synthetic oil change every 7,500 miles or 1 year). Imagine my surprise when after a THOROUGH inspection (again, not costing me a penny, with photos of the brakes, engine oil, brake fluid and more to boot), he told (and showed) me that everything was in great shape - except the engine air filter and the cabin air filter - and he showed me photographs of the dirty filters. I had braced myself for some serious damage to my wallet but I couldn't but be impressed by Kevin. This is the kind of rare experience that earns long-term loyalty. I cannot recommend Kevin highly enough!!!

I would not recommend Ahren's-- especially to university students-- based off of my experience with…read moretheir team and their extreme upcharging of parts. Their pricing is not honest at all. I took my car in with serpentine belt issues. For my make and model, this part generally costs $30-$50. Ahren's priced this part at $80. Their diagnostic examine also found belt tensioner issues. For the serpentine and belt tensioner replacement combined, they quoted me $512 of repairs. This is extremely high and gives me the inclination that this is another mechanic in town that is trying to take advantage of college students who are not as informed on car repairs. I do not think the presented quote is fair by any means so thanked them and let them know I would not be having service done their. I was presented with an $85 fee for a half-hour diagnostic look. This fee was not disclosed beforehand at all, was not mentioned verbally, and I did not sign anything agreeing to this fee. Take your car elsewhere. I took my vehicle here just out of convenience of location, but have previously had much better service at the Firestone off of Archer and with Billy's Auto Repair & Towing. UPDATE: I went in to pick up my car and wish I could leave a negative review. If you take your car here and leave without even having any work done, you will be charged an $85 minimum. I asked why I wasn't informed of this in anyway (no signatures, no verbal inform) beforehand and the woman working the front desk had the owner come out. He raised his voice and started asking why I hadn't taken my car to Billy's or somewhere else. In his rant he referenced other reviews that I have left on Gainesville for miscellaneous places which was unsettling. He lied and said he listened to my phone conversation, saying that I was informed of all fees beforehand-- I certainly was not and he wouldn't play the recording. I have lived in Gainesville for many years and can say assuredly that this is one of the shadier places in town. They use deceptive business practices and their prices are anything but honest.

Definitely NOT happy with this business…read more I returned to Advanced Auto Care after having my oil changed years ago, with this business. I was happy with their service then as well as their customer service. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a stickler for GOOD customer service. So anyway, that's what brought me back. This time I needed not only my oil changed but I also had a rear taillight that was out. When I called to make an appointment, I spoke with a man who was pleasant but rushed me off the phone. I didn't think much of it because it was late in the day and I just figured they were getting ready to close up shop. I showed up for my appointment early and as I was speaking to the man behind the counter, he told me he was the one who spoke with me over the phone and he'd have his mechanic check my taillight. After about 30 minutes, he came into the office and advised me that I did in fact need 2 bulbs due to them being blown out. He then advised me it would cost me $42 + tax to replace the bulbs!! I was shocked. Completely. At first I thought that would be the total price for the oil change and the bulbs but he advised me that the $42 was separate from the oil change. I told him to forget it. He seemed a little miffed and stated after cutting me off in mid-sentence, "so you want me to tell him to put the bad bulbs back in?" Uh yea. Today I went to Auto Zone and bought the 2 bulbs the man said I needed. Guess what? For 4 bulbs (they are sold in pairs) cost me $15! And guess what else? The parts manager installed the BULB for me. And now guess the best part of all!!! I ONLY NEEDED 1 BULB, so I returned the 2nd pack of bulbs and all together it ended up costing me $8 after being refunded for a bulb I didn't even need!!! I was going to give Advanced Auto Care Center my business to fix my car A/C but I no longer will. This is either a perfect example of taking advantage of me because I'm an older woman or just plain ol greed and lying! Either way, I'm done with this business and hope others will be leery of taking their vehicles here. Shame on them!
