Avoid JCPenney's online jewelry protection plans--total nightmare! I purchased a necklace online along with a lifetime protection plan. I picked the item up via curbside, but realized immediately it wasn't right and returned it to the store within minutes of it being brought to my car. While the necklace refund was processed, the jewelry department supervisor refused to refund the protection plan. She told me I had to call an "800 number" found in my email receipt to get my money back. I checked my email thoroughly; neither a company name nor a phone number was listed anywhere. After I insisted multiple times, she finally made a call and gave me a number for the insurance, but not yhr name of the company. When I called the company (Asurion) the next day, they informed me that they cannot process an immediate refund. Instead, I have to send an email request and wait for them to mail me a physical check. This is absolutely unacceptable. A warranty should be automatically cancelled and refunded the moment the product is returned to the store. Save yourself the headache and do not buy their protection plans online. Once they have your money, they make it as difficult as possible to get it back. read more

Wow. For over half year, there hasn't been a single review. Is this JC Penney at First Colony Mall still open? I was here before it was so damn hot outside. Trying to cool down and doing some window shopping. I remember JC Penney stores was my go-to place for fashion. Then, something happened... oh I remember now. They stopped sending me coupons. Today, there were only a few department stores left. Today, I went to revisit this so-called department store with a high expectation. One big problem I have with this JC Penney is the signage. I was clueless as where they put men's clothes. Unlike Macy's and other department stores, there are signs at the escalator as which floor sells what. But not this one. I walked all over the women's department and decided to try 2nd level. Bummer. Men's department only filled half of floor space. Not much to shop there, except the clearance aisles. After my initial navigation, I think I remember where is what on the 2nd level. I will return when I need something fancy. read more

I had a very good experience at their salon. ‍ I got a basic dry cut (no shampoo or conditioner or blowout) for $35. She focused on all of the damage and helped give my type 4 (unprocessed hair) the redo it needed. Big shoutout to Ms. Quinn! Thank you! I honestly hope others have the pleasure of working with you. 2 days after Christmas so I decide to go with the wife & kids to see catch the sells, I decide to go upstairs were the men shoes are to see if any deals were available, there were but you couldn't tell by were the signs were to if the shoes were sell or regular price . So I find a pair that I like to check the price, while I was at it I found a pair of nice slacks that I like to buy once I found out the price of the shoes . So I find an associate to see if she could check the price. .she said " I would have to go down stairs to check the price & she didn't have a scanner ,so I look around and say to myself all the computers up here not one associate to check a price or check anyone out when i look down stairs the line was ridiculously long so I left the products i had planned on purchasing on the shelf & walked out. JC penny at this location has a problem. They are putting stress pressure on all downstairs associate, none of the registers are being used upstairs . You lost my business on this day JC penny. NEVER BUY APPLIANCES HERE. We ordered a GE dishwasher and was given a complete runaround. Was told to reschedule 3-4 times to make ONE installation. First visit they told us we had to fix the water pipe, which we did. Then rescheduled for Saturday...THEY SHOWED UP ON FRIDAY. Came to store to reschedule and complain to appliance dept., then they scheduled for Wednesday 7-11am and they DID NOT show up and did NOT CALL. WE CALLED THEM. And they had to quickly schedule us for 1-5PM same day. Then they came but COULD NOT INSTALL. AGAIN. Asked us to please reschedule again because they were missing pipes and parts in order to install. RIDICULOUS. They do not value customer service and time. We shop here religiously and are members, yet we are not valued customers. Very sad to see our time being wasted on this purchase. This is for JCPenney portraits at the first colony mall. We had a horrible experience while on a photo shoot with 3 kids. The photographer was not collaborative at all, did not ask us what we wanted from the photos. My 4 year old was uncomfortable and did not smile and she actually said "he's giving a mean look" I was so shocked that someone would say this about a child. Worst experience ever! None of the photos looked even half decent. Everything was very rushed from the beginning to the end. Terrible customer service, unprofessional behavior and worst of all indifference. I ordered a dress online and have not been able to find it in a store near me but this location enabled me to buy it and do free in store pick up. The confirmation e-mail directed me to pick my online order up on the 2nd floor in the home department, so I did just that and found the desk with the signage for online order pick up. An employee was behind the desk and she had just finished helping a woman. She looked dead at me and then looked down and began writing. To the right of her I noticed a sign that stated the register was closed and was confused. The lady continued to not acknowledge my presence so I began walking away and a man and his daughter came up behind me and approached the desk. Right away not only did she acknowledge both of them she began answering their questions and assisting them. I turned around and got back in line and as soon as I approached she told me the line was closed and I could go to appliances and they would help me there. I feel some kind of way because #1 she could've acknowledged my presence the first time. #2 I was in earshot and not once did she tell this white man and his daughter that the line as closed #3 when I got back in line she was quick to point out she couldn't help me because the register was closed although I was in line before both of them. As I walked toward appliances I heard her finally tell him he could pick up his order in appliances. Bad customer service is a pet peeve of mine. Not sure why she did what she did but it upset me because I drove 27 miles to this location just to be treated poorly! My experience today was horrible however the two individuals working in appliances were very pleasant and helpful. read more

Teacher appreciation week was especially sweet this year. Kids came to school with gift cards and I was a lucky recipient of one to JC Penney. I don't believe I had ever been in a JC Penney before. I was wary of the place, as it seemed a little lower on the department store scale than I usually shop. I thought I could get some basics there with my gift card (underwear, socks, etc). We headed in on a Saturday afternoon and just happened to hit the place on a sale day! Even though the clothing was a bit cheap, we found some items to purchase. We went to two different departments and we were really pleasantly surprised at how helpful and friendly the sales people were on such a busy day. We got really good customer service. I wish the clothes were up to the same level. We went to men's dress shirts and they were on sale. The shirts were ALL thin and rough in texture. We couldn't actually find any nice ones at all! While visiting family in town, my sister also needed to do some shopping. JCP is usually a good to when she's in the States and needs to shop. They have a large selection of clothing, and there's always a sale going on. Seriously, never pay full price for anything in this store. If you don't have a coupon, ask a sales associate. The lines get long at times and there aren't enough cashiers to keep up, but overall a good place to shop. read more

Great sale prices and clearance prices in the men's big and tall section. I haven't been in in years but got some great deals! Only bad thing is checkout those circular jobs with a line. JCPenney is my favorite store. I can always find what I want and the prices can't be beat. They have remodeled and it took me awhile to get use to it but now I know where everything is and what areas I can usually find things in. When you check out don't go to the check out right by the outside door. Go to the one in the girls/boys department by the mall entrance, it is always a short line or no line. read more

I went there to look for some work clothes. I've mentioned before that I'm pretty small, so I have a lot of trouble finding clothes in general. While I was looking at the business-y tops, I found that they had NO smalls! There were very few mediums, and mostly larges and extra larges. If your size falls in those categories, you will have a blast because they have some very cute stuff. After some hardcore searching, I did find black dress pants with the perfect fit. Tight on my waist/hip area, and loose on the leg area. The best part? They were only $17! Check them out - but again, the smaller sizes were very limited. I ask the consultant where is the product in the store and she told me that the product is the no longer sold in the store you have to buy it online. She did not bother to check anyway. So I happen to pass by the Sephora outside of the mall by the Barnes and nobles. I went in there and I saw they had the product I was searching for on the shelves. Love, love, LOVE! This store had me thinking maybe they had remodeled recently? I was tempted to ask because the store looked great. Everything was in its place and the store was very clean and bright. After coming from Macy's in the First Colony Mall (not so clean), JCP looked like I'd died and gone to heaven. Their prices were also great. I bought two oversized beach towels for $10. I'm also going back today to buy a shower curtain for $22.50 because, after comparison shopping at many other stores, JCP has the best quality and price. I also had 0 wait in the checkout line. I am very particular with my retailers because I used to manage a few big box stores back in my day. It takes a lot for me to rave about a particular store. But this one deserves the marks! RE: Sephora inside the store. There wasn't anybody here. No surprise. The sales associate seemed a little too busy talking to a friend (boyfriend?) to have the time to help. I have visited this location around 5 times and last visit was a few weeks ago to exchange something and if it wasn't because it was a gift given to me I would have never came back to this location. This store is always a mess and some of the people that work there lack customer service and are rude. One of the cashiers had the most nastiest attitude. I asked for the store manager but she was gone for the day. With the financial problems that JCPenny has been facing lately their customer service and quality in clothing has greatly declined. If this store is representative of what happened during Penney's supposed makeover, I can see why it failed. This store does not appear to have changed a bit in the14 years we've been here, except for normal wear and tear. It's claustrophobic and a bit dingy. I've been going to JC Penny Portraits for 6 years and never have I been so dissatisfied with the workers or the pictures. I brought my 1 year old and 6 year old here for a first birthday photo and a sibling photo. I normally walk out with at least 10 pictures. I didn't even like ONE. The girl who helped us, Valerie, did not tell my kids how to set up nor did she use any props UNTIL I grabbed them myself and asked for it. She was doing absolutely nothing. I felt like I worked there breaking a sweat and still the pictures were horrible. To add to that while we were in the middle of getting a one year old to smile... Portrait Studio Review ONLY: I have entrusted dozens of photo opportunities with Marva! She has a great eye for poses, backgrounds, and themed images. She's excellent with babies and toddlers too - knows their typical cues and exactly when to click to get their best smiles. I have been trekking across town to take each of my boys for monthly portraits (for first year) and then seasonal or yearly portraits thereafter. She handles big groups, couples, and pets with an upbeat experience. She's trained all sorts of people for other locations too. Originally I thought I was a lucky patron to see our shots used in advertising, but even years later and with another child, her talent shines! Ive been to other businesses (various prices) and other JCP studios and never as satisfied as I am with the portraits taken by Marva. Other places were only considerable with freestyle cameras or better props, but since they've renovated, I strongly insist Marva runs an awesome studio at JCPenney. read more

My review is in regards to the salon. I had an appointment at 11am, the lady who I had it with approached me rudely and defensive. She sat me down. I told her exactly what I wanted which was long layers, a one inch trim and a thinning of my hair since it is so thick. She continued to cut off about 3 inches of my hair, and only thinned out a part of it. The "long layers" she gave me were a mess! They're so choppy and gross! The last time my hair looked so choppy was when I cut them in elementary school! When she was blow drying my hair she kept burning my head. I let her know but she continued to let it happen. I will never return to this place and I advise you not to step foot in there either. read more

While I think our photographer at the portrait studio was competent and friendly, we waited for our sitting for 90 minutes! We had our appt scheduled for last at 6pm because we had our dog with us, but we didn't leave until after 8pm! Two young kids and a dog sitting for that long - NOT acceptable!! I placed an order online for women's tennis shoes for my mother. I had ordered some new balance, tan ,Velcro closing ,tennis shoes for an elderly woman. When they arrived I had been sent a pair of Nike ,gray ,lace up shoes. Nothing like what I had ordered that's not even trying. Worst customer service! Do NOT order online and expect to pick it up in the store without a lot of heartache and aggravation! This is the 2nd time, and I should have learned my lesson the first time so that's on me for trying again. I ordered an item on Oct. 21st which was supposed to be in between Oct. 30 and Nov. 2. On Nov. 5th, I called the store to check. I got the royal run-around and spent almost 30 minutes on the phone waiting to get some kind of answer. Then I was told someone would call me back within 15 minutes. Of course, that did not happen. So, after all that time, I was no further along in my knowledge of where my item was. I called back the next day and they told me it was not in. They didn't know where it was or why it wasn't there. They thought it was back ordered. I asked when I could expect it in and they didn't know. Fast forward a week . . . when I still heard nothing (keep in mind I signed up for both text and email alerts and got none of either!), I called the store again and asked to talk to the store manager. After asking three times and being transferred three times and waiting 17 minutes, I finally talked to a store manager who told me the item was not there and they do not call until the item arrives, that's why I didn't hear. I could call their 800 customer service number for any further information. So basically, he was telling me that was all he was willing to do to try to help me. I asked if he could look on his computer to see where it was. Again, he told me to call customer service. Thank you--I appreciate that help--so glad I waited for 17 minutes to talk to you. I called customer service (and waited again). They told me the item had been delivered to the store on October 27th. They even told me who signed for it! So where is it? Customer service did nothing more to help me other than give me this information. They told me I needed to call the store back. I called the store back, and of course, could not get to a store manager. So now I still wait to figure out where the item is that I ordered 3 weeks ago, that the store received over 2 weeks ago. Since this is the 2nd time I've ordered online that I've gotten a major run-around, I'm guessing it's not that rare. Sales don't mean anything if you have to deal with this! I took my mother (who is 85) in for a perm at the salon in the Brazos Town Center. Firstly there was only one hairdresser there which kind of disturbed me a bit and I should have walked out then. We were early for our appointed time yet had to wait 20 minutes past it, despite being the only clients there. Then mom had to sign a waiver form for anything that might go wrong (Oh why didn't I take my mom and leave) and then it took nearly 15 minutes to pay the bill because one computer wasn't working and the other computer was slow. After being told not to wash her hair for at least 48 hours I asked the hairdresser to not blow dry her hair but leave it damp, after tousling the 'curls', (we were advised to do this at a previous experience, several months before, using a Visible Changes Salon and it worked well) The next day my mum's hair looked a frizzy mess with no curl at the sides, just frizz. Two days later I went to wash my mom's hair planning to take her to the Visible Changes Salon and see if they could help. When I lifted up the back of her hair her neck was a mass of sore red patches up by the hairline. I was horrified and she said she didn't like to tell me before because she knew I would be upset. I blame myself for the red flags I should have heeded but didn't. All I can say is I SHOULD HAVE RUN NOT WALKED my mom away from this appalling experience. If I could given a minus five star review I would have read more
