I had a horrible experience today at the JCPenney located in Johnson City, TN and here's why.. I and my mom had spent around an hour and a half to two hours looking for needed clothing items and trying them on. We asked the two young girls at the front desk next in the petite's section next to the shoe department, to hold them for us while we finished shopping and that we'd be back soon to get them. They agreed to do so. We came back about 45 minutes later and when we walked in we noticed that they were evidently staring and exchanging glances and smirks. We then waited in line only for us to find out that they did not hold the items and put them back out. Instead of admitting to their mistake, apologizing and offering to help us find the clothing items, one of the girls walked off and the other one shrugged her shoulders, began smirking, gave an attitude, and said, "it happens." As my mom expressed her concern and frustration, the girl continued to smirk and never apologized. We rushed back to the clothing section to find the items before closing time and were only able to find one. I did not appreciate you girls wasting mine and my mom's time and showing no remorse or empathy for your actions. I am a full time college student and my schedule stays booked with classes, internship, assignments, and medical appointments. In other words, my free time is extremely limited. Last month my doctor incidentally found a tumor in my brain so I now understand how precious time is and that none of us are promised tomorrow. You all wasted my time. This behavior is not something to be taken lightly or to smirk about. You all need to start taking responsibility for your mistakes and treat people and their time with respect as you never know what someone may be going through. read more

Online from Penneys I ordered a pair of Lapis earrings along with 2 bras. Items were not shipped together. Decided to keep the bras but return the earrings as the color was too dark. Finally got time to go to local Penneys to return them- was directed to the fine jewelry department. The sales associate was very nice and spent a good deal of time on the register computer trying to find the transaction. I had the slip that was enclosed with the earrings but she could not get the numbers to work. She called the manager who questioned her as to what was going on and the manager curtly told me there was nothing they could do. So much for customer service. I will keep the earrings but avoid shopping JCPenney in the future. read more

Today we had an exchange and a return to do. When we walked in we met a younger employee that directed us where to go. At the return counter we met DJ she is absolutely amazing. She helped us through the whole process. She knew where everything was in the store and that was a big help in finding the one item we needed in the end. Once we were ready she processed everything quickly. It was a simple process with DJ's help and we appreciated that. Thanks for being so nice and making us want to come back. read more

Worst service ever. Waited in line for 10 no uted while other customers not in line walked up and were helped. Manager tried to excuse associates behavior and blame the selfishness of other customers walking up. Will not frequent this store. read more

I really love some of the clothes they have here but the misadvertisement is really annoying. They say buy one get one a Penney so me and my mother were trying to buy clothes and we got six shirts thinking they would be buy one get one a Penney. However when we went to check out they told us that buy one get one a Penney is actually buy one get one half off. Even though it did not show that on the sign. If you're going to say something like that you should mean what you say. Also, the store is an absolute mess and the check out line is always unbelievably long. read more

Marlene may be good at what she does but today she overbooked herself so she ended up blowing me off. She wasted three hours of my day today. To blow off someone who called days in advance to make an appointment only to tell them you're sorry but you can't get to them today is unexcusable. My time is just as valuable as hers. read more

On 7 July 2014, I went to the Penney's beauty salon for a perm. My appointment was for 11:00am. Here are the people involved: Angie with the blond hair; Angie with the dark hair; and the manager, Mindy. Background: two perms before, I was given a MASTER beautician to do my perm instead of the regular person who did my perms. This one kept telling me she had attended classes so Penney's determined she could charge more for her services. She charged me $80 for that perm. OK...on 7 July 14, I arrived at 10:30 and blonde Angie was at the counter with the clerk. I told her about my previous experience and requested I not get a "master" beautician...I just wanted a regular perm with a trim afterwards. Blonde Angie told me that my beautician would be Angie with the dark hair and she was a Master so it would cost me $80 for the perm. About that time, dark haired Angie came to work and she started my perm. First to the wash bowl. She dampened my hair, applied some shampoo and pushed my hair around on the top of my head. She never wet or soaped the hair at the back of my head. Then she rinsed...still...just the top of my head and whatever water got to the back of my head...that was it! She wrapped my head in a towel and we went back to her station...all the time I was thinking that was the worst wash I'd ever received. When we got back to her station she explained that she had learned in school that she wasn't to disturb the scalp when washing hair so that is how she washed mine. I told her it was a good thing she told me that because I was unhappy with the way she washed my hair. She rolled my hair. When she put the cotton strip around my head to catch perm lotion, she anchored the end of it right above my left eye...putting the strip into the row of curlers. I thought, "That's gonna drip," and it did...but I got it before it went into my eye! She did not set a timer...and went around the shop doing odd jobs. Came back to check a curl...looked at the customer card for me and said...well it's been 20 minutes but the card says 25 so I'll roll this back and be right back. Several minutes later, she came back. The cap was still on my head, but she said for me to go with her to the wash area and she'd rinse the perm solution from my hair. I leaned back...and waited and waited while she played with the water temp. Finally my neck muscles had spasms so I sat up. She finally told me to put my head back down. She barely had the water on...she sprayed a bit on the left side, then over the top of my head to the right side, then back again to the left...over my head and to the right side. Never ONCE did she touch the water to the rollers on my forehead nor to the back of my head! THEN SHE SHUT THE WATER OFF!!! (Anyone with a brain knows that you have to rinse for at least 5 minutes to get all the perm solution off before applying the neutralizer!) But she didn't. I sat up abruptly and said, "You're kidding, right?" She just looked at me! Again I said, "You've GOT to be kidding!" She again just looked at me. I told her...where is your manager...I need to see the manager! She went for the manager....then came back with her. I told the manager...I don't need her! So she told the beautician not to come. I told the manager, Mindy, what happened during the washing of my hair...during the perm rolling and applying lotion and the rinsing of the perm solution. I also told her that she should not keep Angie (dark hair) at the Master level because it was apparent to me that she shouldn't even be doing hair at all. She told me that Angie (dark hair) was NOT a master and asked me, "Did she tell you that?" And I told her, "No, the blonde Angie told me." She replied that she was glad I told her that. The manager completely re-rolled my perm rods...she made 3 trips back to the supply room to get more rods because the ones Angie (dark hair) put in my hair were drooping clear down my neck! She first rinsed the perm solution out of my hair and made sure it was clean before re-rolling my perm...then applied neutralizer...waited the appropriate time then rinsed that out. She also cut my hair. I wear my hair natural...and it's short, so she put me under the dryer then used a pick to comb it out. Then I paid! It was not the $80 that blonde Angie told me it would be...it was $60....but after the crap I went thru with the dark haired Angie, I should not have had to pay anything! I will NOT be going back to Penney's hair salon as long as Penney's keeps the "master" program where stylists can charge more for a simple perm because they've attended a class for Penney's!!! Their prices should be posted out front and be the same for every customer, depending on hair length and type of perm. If Penney's wants stylists to get more money because they've attended more classes, then PENNEY'S should pay them! Blonde Angie is a scam artist and dark haired Angie IS NO BEAUTICIAN! I know a lot of people tend not to leave good reviews but I personally have to brag alittle. I went last Wednesday to get my hair shampooed & cut. (Which I am very precise when it comes to my hair) I left there very pleased. Marlene is amazing! She is very detailed & informative on her work. I highly recommend her for anyone searching for a new master beautician. Thank you again Marlene for doing exactly what I wanted and making me feel beautiful!
