6/8/21: I stopped by around 7:30 pm thinking they closed at 9 pm. NOPE! They close at 8 pm. So, I had to rush to find a shirt/shapes for work. I didn't get to find the shoes, but I was able to find a dress I liked really quickly. They turned the lights out on me & when I got to the register, the cashier had trouble ringing me up. After trying several times & even changing registers, it worked. I was able to pay and leave. The cashier was friendly, but the manager letting people out of the store wasn't. I don't understand why they changed their hours, but they should at least wait to shut the lights off when they know everyone is out. How rude. Lol. read more

I really can't say a bad thing about JCPenney right now, especially when they have a good sale going on. Easter weekend was an extra 50% on top of clearance items which are already 50-70% off. I saved myself over $70 and walked away with a good few items. Love it!! Although... the lines were out of control on 29th March, but what can you expect with sales as good as these!? On a normal day, it's not the cheapest of places, but you can always find a good bargain. I also like the fact that there is a Sephora and a salon at this location - it's just a shame the selection at Sephora isn't the same as it's larger stores. However, you can do same day pick up if you buy online with all items, as long as it's in stock. Not bad! A solid 3.5 which I will round up - just because the staff have always been golden to me every time I shop here. read more

I really don't like coming to this location but I had to for an exchange. Even exchange. I stood in line and when it was my turn to approach the register and when called I got "are you in line?" No shit I'm in line but the woman infront of me got "I can help you here ma'am". Then when I was being assisted she had an attitude for some reason and didn't even look at me when speaking. Customer service is minimum and the woman are always rude. Go to any other JCPenney in Newport News or Yorktown. Don't waste your time and money here. read more

Review is for Sephora only. This location has finally reached its lowest point. I noticed over the years the turn over was out of control. Now, it's a new face full of unflattering and extreme makeup application that does nothing to bolster a buyers confidence in their application technique or mastery of product knowledge. Hard as heck to get the clerks to acknowledge your presence and almost impossible to get on the floor assistance. Displays are filthy and poorly stocked. I just can't do it anymore with this location. Thank heavens I travel so I'll get my Sephora fix when I'm out Hampton Roads. read more

I haven't been in a JCPenney in so long! I decided to stop in and check out their shoe selection because I had a gift card. I was disappointed to see that they did not have a wide variety of shoes. The prices were great, but nothing caught my eye. I decided to check out their workout gear instead and was very happy to find a couple items to purchase. I bought two pairs of workout pants and a sports bra for under $30-awesome deal. This particular JCPenney also has a Sephora inside! The customer service was average. They only had one register open for about 4 people. Once I made it to the register, the lady behind the counter was very friendly and polite. I'm not too sure if I will return to this location in the future, but will definitely be back to a JCPenney if I need more workout gear. read more

My purse was stolen in JC Penny's in Hampton, VA on Thursday night. My new Galaxy 8+ phone, Christmas money and $120 eye drops for my cataract surgery are gone. I called police and they reviewed the surveillance tapes but didn't see it happen. I didn't have insurance on my cell phone so that mistake cost me $850. So, no, I'm not going back. read more

There is limited stock in the lingerie department for women. The Children's clothing are overpriced for the quality and they have limited staff working there even before Covid 19 pandemic began. Their hours are very late compared to other department stores around and with all the other clothing stores closed down in the Town Center it leaves limited options for clothing and makeup shopping at the Peninsula Town Center. That entire strip is a GHOST TOWN. I don't know the plans that the city has for the Hampton location but this location needs in house improvement asap! read more

Review is on Sephora inside this location... Always under stocked which is super inconvenient. Time after time that I go in for a specific item that intend to purchase it is out of stock. This is a small Sephora, so I give them a pass because they don't have that much room to work with, but it is usually untidy with no employee really tending to the appearance of the shelves. Also no one makes sure that the products that are not stocked on the shelf is restocked appropriately if available in the drawers. Even some of the samples are missing or have run out yet they remain on the shelves. So much potential to be managed better since it is on the smaller size. The upside is that this Sephora is available for the convenience of Peninsula shoppers. This is one of two located on the Peninsula. read more

Very clean and organized, staff isn't hard to find and they are very helpful and friendly. We were looking at memory foam pillows because my husband wanted a new one, we were excited to see they were on sale. He picked out a pillow he wanted but we were confused on price. The pillows are stacked three shelves high but there were only two price tags so we asked a nearby employee to help us with price, he looked it over and told us it was on sale for $59. He was very excited and asked a different employee by the as seen on tv stand to scan and confirm the price. We were disappointed to find out that it was actually only on sale for 90 so he picked a different pillow. Wish they had items that were properly labeled and didn't confuse customers/employees. It's annoying to have employees scan your item to know what the actual price is. They didn't even have a tag for the record player at the check stand. read more

The portrait studio is very disorganized. We showed up 20 minutes late due to going to the wrong location and the woman was dealing with an issue that took over 40 minutes to resolve. Another family showed up apparently on time. She cited my lateness as reason for taking the other family first, but even if we had been on time, she still wouldn't have been able to see us until an hour after our appointed time. It was very unprofessional and poor logic on her part. The only reason I didn't walk out was because we were already getting a great deal through Groupon. read more

Debbie, and other sales clerks were very rude and tried to rush me out of the store. Debbie also continued disrespectfully with an attitude after I asked her to please not rush me, after all if I was going to spend as much as I did, I would like to be sure of what I wish to purchase. Then when I made an attempt to create small talk to ease the situation a bit, Debbie continue to be rude and disrespectful. She also consistently asked me if the rewards email and credit card I had was mine. Rudely interrupting me while on the phone with my Wife who was at work in Texas at the time, but took a minute off so that I could receive our rewards email Information. Usually I go to the other JCPenny's in Hampton when I travel here from Texas, visiting family who live close by, but this was my first time at this location and never have I experienced such profiling unprofessionalism in my life. It's like I get that we're in some type of crisis and you have to be extra cautious and customers are swarming in breaking social distancing; adding additional stress to your ancient bubbled little life. I get it, but I expect better customer service skills coming from an establishment like JCPenney, especially being in such a modern, vibrant tourist area. read more

I have been a loyal - over 30 year shopper at JC Penney. Never had a bad experience until just now. I needed a new iron and they were having a sale. Found a Black & Decker iron on sale for $39.99. The display had 2 types of this brand iron and a sign indicating the price of $39.99. In small print the sign indicated the original price of $60. Get to the register & the salesperson tells us a price over $70. We tell her what the sign says and she goes to check - comes back & tells us she took a picture of the display. She asks another salesperson what to do. They call a manager and she points out these 2 irons are a different price -she flips the boxes over & shows us. Here's the problem - WHY would you display 2 different irons, same brand on display with a sign the shows $39.99 for this brand iron. The iron we picked up turned out not being on sale at all. Very deceptive!!! How many customers did they set up with this dishonesty? read more
