Quick Summary: Jim runs an exceptionally professional business, and I would gladly hire him again…read morefor any job to improve my household. He is an excellent communicator, and his workers were not only courteous but very skilled at their respective jobs. He was able to finish my basement in a timely manner with high-quality materials. I could not be happier with the work Brown's Custom Contracting did within my home. Detailed Summary of My Experience: I contacted Jim initially just to get an estimate for finishing my basement, which was in a state that needed major work because the walls were made of cinderblock and the floors were complete concrete; it was a space that was probably best used for storage and I would not call it "comfortably livable." Jim arrived quickly for an estimate and helped me explore the possibilities of the space, even going so far as to note what would be difficult or expensive to pull off. Within days he provided an estimate for the job, which I found out during the process was a major ordeal involving many phases and individuals, so I'm impressed he was able to produce a price so quickly (and in the end it was an accurate price). I signed Jim up for the job because of his straightforward and pleasant attitude. In the weeks and months that followed (this was a major job, I want to note), Jim gave me frequent updates about what workers I could expect to come by and when/how-long they would be there. Every person who came onto the property was skilled and good about communicating what they would be working on, especially when they had questions about the possibilities of the space. Jim also handled all of the work involving the permits and he worked with the county to ensure everything was up to code. He also alerted me any time there was a change in plans or if there was a possibility of delay. Given how involved this basement-finish job was, there were plenty of opportunities for major hurdles, but the project was still completed in a timely manner, and it was always clear to me what was going on, what would happen next, etc. The final product is everything I could've wanted. Jim made efficient use of the space to make as much of it "comfortably livable" as possible. Even the water heater and HVAC unit were relocated with no diminishment in functionality just for the sake of making the basement as good as it could possibly be. I'm very pleased with the additional space my family has been given, and there isn't a single rough edge in the room. Jim's guys are the best and I highly recommend his service to anyone looking to improve their homes. I have included pictures of the job before and after just so you can see the quality of work.

We hired Brown's for the rebuild of our deck after moving into our new home. It took a while to…read morecoordinate a time to meet with Jim, but he was very professional right from the start and provided the most competitive pricing for the job. As a property manager myself, I appreciated his clean contracting process - he'll print out two copies so both you and he can sign, he'll document the down payment amount and check number (and sign), he'll get his insurance agent to provide you with a COI right after, and keep you updated regularly throughout the project and will document any change orders with updated payment schedules. Our deck project became complicated by obvious grading/drainage issues and sunken footers at the adjacent porch that the deck is flush to, which caused our project cost to increase significantly. Some would say that the change in scope is a pricing tactic, and maybe it is for some, but not Jim. He carefully explained and showed us the issues, then helped prioritize them so we knew what really needed to be addressed and what could wait. His sub was great - always on time, productive as hell, and maintained a tidy worksite. You could tell the sub really cared about their work and Jim made it a point to stop by to check in. The end result is a beautiful deck that we cannot wait to furnish and use. The experience with Jim was so great that we will call him when we're ready to bid out our master bath and kitchen reno. He's a good human.

Since I didn't give Greg the last payment (which was due when the work was completed) he never called or finished the work. I should've ran when he kept throwing around "blessed" and "bible verses" which are not aligned with his morales or customer service. I can't run my microwave and have a toaster oven/small appliance running at the same time it shuts down the power since enough amps weren't dedicated to the circuit. The only changes I made once work started was because of Greg's mistake the microwave didn't fit in the cabinet he ordered and had to move it over the oven. Poor work some photos shown. Overpriced and not quality work at all!!

He seemed very genuine and was really eager to help. He was trying his best to get us a great quote from the insurance company, but I have to say he fooled to hell out of me. Wow! Bamboozled us to give him the entire insurance money with no estimate of what the roofing cost would be and yes, I am truly a fool for that. He was very rude to the insurance adjuster and they did not want to speak with him. He comes off as helping you, but he then becomes unresponsive and very aggressive. He made the FIRST adjuster upset and the same with the SECOND adjuster. Yes, we went through two people that said this man is NO GOOD. Since he fooled us to give him the money he ONLY did the work for the roof. The other work that needed to get done I had to find a more reliable contractor. I am appalled, disappointed with Greg about the lack of communication and how inconsiderate he was with this entire process. I cannot believe this happened but this is all apart of the home-owning process I guess. I had no idea this would happen to me. Wow. Greg, does not come highly recommended from me at all. Please do the research and unfortunately if someone comes knocking DO NOT TRUST THEM!!

I'd be careful when receiving a quote and paying for work that you don't oversee in person…read more We are military and we were arriving from out of state and desperately needed some flooring installed in three bedrooms before we arrived. To'mas answered our call for help and came out to see the house to look at the job we needed done. After coming out he brought to our attention that our yard needed to be mowed. He said he could mow and clean up the leaves for $200. We did hire him to do the mowing. We had another company show up to give us a flooring quote while he was cleaning up the yard and he said he knew the guy and urged us to not go with that company even if the price was better. To'mas came across as someone we could trust. Telling us he hoped his work on the yard would show his work and said he would do a good job for us. While To'mas was looking at the flooring for the quote he pointed out to us that our toilet paper holder was loose from the wall and said he could fix it. He said he could also fix the places in the floor where a prior installer failed to do a nice job at the corners. Said he could use wood filler and stain and it would look nice. This all sounded great to us. Seemed like we had finally found someone to help us. We had 3 other items we wanted to get fixed from our inspection report so we asked if he could replace the p trap in one of our bathrooms, replace the toilet hardware in one bathroom that was reported to not having the float work and to put caulking around our bath tub spout? He quoted $325 plus materials for those additional 3 things. We agreed. To'mas did a nice job installing our floors but apparently disposal of the carpet was not part of it. Nor was putting down the moisture barrier we provided. That was an additional $75 per room. The wood filler and stain used to repair the corners looks terrible. He was unable to fix the p trap, there was nothing done to the toilet hardware but he did caulk the tub faucet. When we asked for a refund for the sink and toilet they offered us $25 from the $325 charge. This didn't seem to add up but when we talked to both him and his wife Nikki they were unwilling to budge. They charged $300 to caulk around the bathtub spout! Things just seemed to have a tumbleweed effect with cost and some small surprises we didn't expect like the carpet and all garbage left on site for us to deal with. We bought an older home and we were hoping to find a handyman that we could trust with work and fair pricing, but this was not the case. We should have been refunded more for the work that was not done.
