As a child growing up in South Carolina my family and I would always get up on Saturdays and go to…read moreyard sales, flea markets, and farmers markets. I haven't been to any type of market in ages, but this morning I felt like exploring. I moved to Virginia 3 1/2 years ago and I enjoy cooking in my kitchen. I've had several thoughts about going to the farmer markets in the areas and I made those thoughts come true on today. My first stop was here at this particular one. Upon entering, we were greeted by Anna or Annie. She was working behind the counter and welcomed us inside. She even told me where I could find something specific I was looking for. As she waited on customers to shop she stocked up on some things and aligned items on shelves. Super helpful! We walked around and collected several items before heading to the register. I told her we hadn't been to a farmers market in so many years and she told us to come back any time and that they would be happy to serve us. Made my entire day!!! The ambiance of the market felt family strong. I loved the atmosphere and the foods/products made readily available. I can't wait to return. Upon leaving we saw that there was a food truck on the premises serving ice cream and hotdogs. We had just came from eating and didn't get to check them out, but if it's there when we return we'll definitely check it out. If you're reading my review, please go by and check them out.

I've driven by this farmers stand many times, but noticed that it was always closed. Recently, a…read moreneighbor told me that they had just reopened and it had been renovated inside. My kids and I stopped in last week and it was nice and tidy. There isn't a ton of inventory, but enough to line the shelves so it doesn't look completely empty. There were tomatoes, cantaloupe, blueberries (locally sourced) and some jams and other preserves. I was surprised that most of the produce was not locally sourced since there are sooooo many farms in Chesapeake and VA Beach. I'm sure they are working on getting more inventory as the weeks progress. We purchased a cantaloupe, tomatoes from GA and some local blueberries and all of them were fantastic! The cantaloup was super juicy and cantaloupe-y flavor, tomatoes were juicy (made a Caprese salad with fresh basil from the plant I've been keeping alive) and the blueberries were gone before I could even taste them. My little fruit fiends got to them before I could! They also have a little animal area outside. We saw some rabbits, chickens and baby goats. I would really call it a petting zoo (no charge to look at the animals), but still a nice area for the kids to explore. Look forward to see what else they add to their store! Stay safe, Friends!

I knew…read morethis season I had to go, so I grabbed my friend and her two kids and we decided to give Hickory Ridge Farm a try! What a gem. They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. If you're looking for a fun strawberry picking experience, give them a try!
