I used to love stopping by this Farmers Market on my home way from Nags Head. It had so many fruits and vegetables, bread, pickled Jams and etc. It's been a while since I stopped by here (like pre-COVID) and it seems they didn't have much stuff as I remembered. And the vegetables and fruits weren't organic. That's a bummer because that's what I like about Farmers Market. Nonetheless, I picked up some strawberries that were 2 pints for $12. Will make some strawberry jam and strawberry lemonade. read more

Very poor service, you don't have much to choose from, the food was ok but I wouldn't recommend it.

The peaches were not that good. Prices relatively high. The boiled peanuts were TERRIBLE! Worst purchase of the whole beach trip. Honestly food lion had better produce. Such a bummer. read more

Haven't been to the Outer Banks in a while and forgot that we figured out that the produce stands a little further on - as in closer to the beach - are better than Powell's. It seemed expensive and then when I looked at my receipt I saw I'd been charged 6 times for a "farm fee" of $2. My best guess is that there was a fee for each item purchased, which I didn't see disclosed anywhere. So that $4 watermelon that seemed like a good deal was actually $6. And it was marked seedless but had quite a few seeds. That said the watermelon was pretty good, as was the cantaloupe. Strawberries were meh. read more

Where do I start. Expensive, and ratty looking stuff. Asked for a restroom key, they have a single occupant ladies room, but men have to go outside to the outhouse/portajohn. This is the worst farmers market I have ever been to. The blueberries were $6.99 and so old they tasted like cardboard. Definitely not freshly picked. The lady was nasty when asking questions and then after spending $48, she was yelling at us to move our 35 feet motor home when all my husband was doing was stopping to let me get in and secure our purchases, which literally took less than 5 minutes. We were excited and enjoying our trip to the Outer Banks when we stopped at this place off the highway. Please don't bother with the hassle of getting out of traffic and back in it. The wonderful hospitality and vibe of the Outer Banks doesn't carry over to here. The staff is incredibly rude and the produce subpar especially given the horrible prices. read more

This is the second time I stopped there for fruit on my way to the beach. The strawberries were bad and moldie within a day. The Mellon was mushy, mealy and seemed like it had too much water in it. Won't stop there again. Bad fruit every time and expensive. read more

The staff was young and snarky. The prices were a little higher than other markets nearby and lack the ambiance. The presentation was okay, but the seafood cooler was enough for me to get back in my car. I had an awful experience with this business. We came in through the side of the market, missing the no dogs sign at the front, and brought my 4 month old puppy on the grounds. He got ahold of rat poison that was on the edge of one of the isles in the store. Many stressful days and several vet appointments later he's doing okay. I called the store to let them know what happened and suggest that they use child and pet proof boxes (as they are legally required to according to the EPA), so this doesn't happen to another pet or child. The owner yelled at me on the phone before I could even speak, blaming us for the incident and saying that they have never had the problem before. Awful costumer service through all of this. Everyone that we've talked to has been really cold and unkind. read more

Young girls, three of them busy talking while there was a line of customers. It was obviously more important for their conversation than to check us out. I watched as she rang up a handful of grapes at $5.99 a pound. I asked her if that was correct and she said yes. We stop at Powell's every year on our way to the beach for peaches. This year there was a sign that said no refunds on the peaches. We should have passed, but we bought a bucket for $29.99. Every peach was bad. We had to throw them out. They looked OK on the outside, but the fruit was brown. mushy and distasteful. This was on 12 June. Recommend staying away from their peaches this season. I can't believe they sold them. Recommend passing up Powell's this season. If you want good peaches, go to another market this summer. read more

100% not recommend this place!! The customer service was absolutely unacceptable. The young man that was checking us out gave my children and I nasty looks, and had a terrible attitude problem. We spent $60 dollars on strawberries ALONE, not even including the raspberries and blueberries we purchased as well. Our total came out to about $95 dollars for some fruit. Once we got home we were forced to throw out 3 peaches due to bugs being inside the fruit. DO NOT COME HERE. read more

Produce overload but not complaining! Found some of the sweetest strawberries I've had all season. Just in time for Fall, pumpkins were available in an assortment of sizes and colors. They also have different breads. I bought a loaf that had strawberries in it and made French toast. Very good! read more

We decided to stop on the way home from OBX and we're sorry we did. They had a nice place with grass for the dogs, porta potties, and what seemed like a large selection of produce BUT the staff was not kind! I have a small, well behaved dog who I got out of the car and took to the grassy area for dogs. We then proceeded to the market itself and a lady comes barreling out yelling "NO DOGS IN THE MARKET. GO BACK TO THE DOG AREA" and I was okay with not having my dog go in, but not okay with the way I was treated. The signs that stated this were hidden and not by the entrance. Don't want dogs in the market? Then use more signage! We turned around and refused to buy anything. We won't be back and will be stopping at a different market from now on. read more

This place is Tourist Trap Trash! It's tacky, rundown and dirty. The staff doesn't wear masks even though it is mandated in North Carolina during this pandemic. We bought a quart of cherries for $13 and "fresh baked" jalapeño cheese bread. I'm thinking they bought stale bread , slapped on shredded cheese and jalapeño on the outside of the loaf and repackaged it. No flavor inside the loaf of bread unless stale is a flavor. read more

My family has been stopping at this spot every year for a least five years to stock up on fruit/veggies for our week vacation. I was always under the impression that the produce was farm fresh/home grown (maybe my ignorance). Stopped today and saw workers unloading plastic containers from groceries stores putting in cute little produce boxes like it was something more than imported fruit. I'm serious...grapes, cherries, and all forms of berries. If you are expecting farm raised produce save your time. We will not be back. read more

If you have driven down the east coast you have seen South of the Boarder. Powell's advertises the same way. Miles before you get there the signs and billboards tell you to stop for produce. We saw them while southbound and decided to stop while northbound. There is nothing fresh or locally grown about Powell's. I posted some pictures of the store bought stickers on their produce. AND it's marked up higher than you favorite local grocery store. 5.99 for a dozen ears of dried out corn on the cob? That's outrageous. This local farmers market is the best place to shop on the way to the beach. There is a large selection of beach toys, umbrellas and easy to snack on foods. The best part about this farmers market is that EVERYTHING is local in the summer. Well I've stopped here for well over 25 years and it finally occurred to me "why do I stop here?" Why is because I'm always excited for my vacation and produce hunting is part of the journey. Somehow I feel like it's a trap though as you pull up and see bountiful baskets of fresh fruit and vegetables........only to discover that you "can't pick from the baskets". So it seems to me all the best picked are presented in the baskets that are more than I need for vacation consumption. If you want onesies twosies, you have to walk in the farthest back of the market and there were sparse pickings far less attractive. I found that there are much lovelier-markets just a stretch further down the road. So buyer be patient and pass on by Powell's. In fact Harris Teeter had more attractive produce on the right before Croatan Hwy. read more

I bought a basket of peaches yesterday as my wife and I were coming home to MD from NC. When we arrived home, almost all of the very large bucket were spoiled. I called and asked for a refund on my credit card and the person I spoke to said that I could only get a refund if I came back to NC (more than a 4 hour drive). It is a shame. The people serving were wearing religious clothing. I would like to think that religious people were considerate of the things they were selling. But Powell's seems to be more interested in making a profit than by providing quality goods (the farmers should know whether their peaches are beyond ripe). Boycott this fruit stand. The people who run it don't care what they sell. read more
