I've been seeing Dr. Desai for all my eye care needs for past 3 years and I have been pretty satisfied. She is always attentive, pleasant to talk to and has been giving me good advice. She has also done a great job revamping the clinic (along with training the staff) after buying the practice. Extremely rude reception. Just wanted to make an appointment. The receptionist randomly gave a date off the top of her head, and then realized she was wrong, and gave another date after clicking a few buttons on her monitor. Never once looked at me or cared. I showed up 15 minutes early and it still took an hour to be seen. After they saw me the staff was extremely rude to me and told me they couldn't make lenses for my frames (they wanted me to buy their frames, but i love mine and they don't make them anymore). Such a waste of time, and they will overcharge you by at least $200 compared to Visionworks and other way better providers. Never in my life have I dealt with a more unprofessional medical facility. I arrived early for my appointment and had to wait almost an hour to be seen. Then, I was given a prescription that was incorrect. I now have been given multiple "revisions" of my prescription that are all completely different. Most recently, they gave me sample contacts that were so far off from my real prescription that they gave me a migraine and I lost my balance. This is a ridiculous practice that I will never, ever return to. I can only imagine the recent name change was intended to bury past negative reviews. read more

Do yourself a favor and go some other place. This place has multiple issues. 1. They force you to provide SSN or at least last 4 digits of ssn. If you have a valid eye insurance you should not entertain anyone asking for SSN even a part of it. Go to any other optometrist like at targetopticals , Costco, LensCrafters they'll never ask for your ssn if you've a valid insurance they accept. 2. Their front desk lady is beyond rude and unprofessional and should be replaced. 3. If you made an appointment for a specific doctor that has no meaning, you'll be seen by whoever is available next. 4. They have outdated eye test equipment, I've had eye test at target optical in Newport and Clifton and they are so much advanced. 5. Wait times was ~1hour but that was least of my issues with this place after having a argument on ssn, and front desk lady. Although they will spam your phone with text that if you are 15mins late to appointment you'll be charged $25 but they don't have any problem making you wait for 1+ hour. Please do yourself a favor, go to lenscrafter, target optical or any other location even if means driving/traveling 15-20mins more. read more

Drops for optional dilation. So this could have ended here. 10:57 AM: Waiting room. 11:13 AM: Dialation eye test. 11:15 AM: Waiting room to look at glasses. 11:22 AM: Asked for Rx to leave without looking at glasses 11: 56 AM: Went to Visionworks in Bayonne 7.5 miles away to order glasses. No appointment. 100% spontaneous. Glasses came a week later and I am using them now to write this review. read more

We were there in time at 5:30. Upon arrival, they didn't give the estimate of wait time or any heads up. 5:50 I checked with the front desk and they said "I saw your folder just went out", you should be the next. At 6:00, they said there are two in front of you while I see people behind us are gone. At this moment, my kid and I are thirsty and there was no water available there. I said it can't be, and they should have given us heads-up about the delay before we leave home. I asked to be the next while i saw my folder has been sitting in the middle. They said I will be the next. And yet, two more patients went again in front of me. Total wait time has been 50 minutes. I was with my daughter and our time should have better utilized instead of waiting. I then asked to get my medical history back. they said i have to come back because the whole office , five or six people working there in the front, no one knows how to do it, which seems to be impossible and basically holding my files as hostage. They basically saying they don't know how to make photo copy and holding my files hostage. This place does not respect people's time and the whole time I communicated with "the lady", she does not seem to care by just sitting there indifferently. read more

I needed to see an optometrist due to an extremely painful eye infection (blurred vision, swollen eyelid, severe eye redness, etc.). Their website clearly states they do emergency eye care and I called about getting in ASAP due to my symptoms. I explained to the woman on the phone I needed to be seen as an emergency and she replies "we don't have any availability until the end of the month" (then why advertise you do emergency eye care - you'd think they would keep emergency slots open for these kind of instances?!). I asked if she knew any other offices in the area that did do same day emergency care and simply replied "no." Very unhelpful. False advertising of care services they provide. read more

Today, I check with my insurance and turns out the clinic does accept my insurance. Too bad I won't be coming back here because of that first impression! Good location and doctors. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation and have your paperwork ready or else they will not be happy in the front. If you have everything covered, they will process you quickly enough and wait. The wait is less during the weekday when the staff and doctors are present. My first time here and I didn't have to wait long to be seen for the eye exam at all. Everything was clean and they take everyones temperature before entering. All staff was nice. And doctor Thi was great. So nice and knowledgeable. They confirmed my appt the day before and warned me they charge a 25 dollar fee if you need to cancel the same day. read more

I feel the need to provide feedback on my visit as I don't seem to see eye to eye with the popular opinion. I had an overall good experience, and I've had many eye doctor appointments at a handful of different places over the last decade and a half. It goes without saying, but this was not my first rodeo. I'll also add that I called ahead of time to make my appointment and give my insurance information. Now as I write this review, I may have the tendency to allude to my past eye doctor experiences. We can call those optical allusions. Eye digress. I came in for a standard annual eye exam. There was nothing overtly out of the ordinary. As a new patient, I showed my ID and insurance card, filled out some paperwork, and waited to be called. The pre-exam process was like any other: I removed my contact lenses, had pictures taken of my eyes as I stared down the barrel at the hot air balloon, got my annual dreaded air puffs, and answered some questions. When I was taken in for the actual exam, everything was clean and efficient. I was assisted by Dr. Pianeta who conducted by exam with ease and answered any questions I had. After my exam, I underwent the contact lens fitting process, which was thorough and effective. Overall, aside from some unfriendly staff at the front desk, I was satisfied with my appointment. read more

It's never been a great experience, and at times, the customer service was seriously terrible. And, it got worse. Hands down the worst eye doctor I've ever been to... I was immediately skeptical when I called to make an appointment and was asked for my full social security number to verify my insurance ahead of time. We went back and forth about how surely there must be a better way than handing over all of my personal details over the phone. Upon speaking to my insurance provider afterwards, they informed me that only the last 4 digits are needed in order to pre authorize your insurance. My appointment was today (Saturday) at 12pm. I showed up at 11:50 to be sure I had time to fill out my paperwork. At 11:55 I joined the 20 other people in the waiting area. At 12:40 I asked how much longer it would be until the doctor would see me. The response, "the doctors are on lunch. They are out until 1:15". In utter disbelief I had my copay refunded and left. Sadly I didn't get a chance to inquire as to why I would have a 12 o'clock appointment if nobody was available to see me or when somebody was going to bother to tell me that I would be waiting for at lest and hour and 15 minutes. From what I understand they were backlogged from the walk in appointments that they take on Saturday morning, but that doesn't even begin to help me understand why I had an appointment over their lunch break. In an area where I have so many options for an eye doctor covered by my insurance, I chose this spot because it was close to my house. Clearly this was a mistake and I chose the one that doesn't value their customers enough to manage scheduling properly or give decent service. I'll go somewhere else for my exams, contacts and glasses - not worth the hassle for any of their services. read more

If I could have left NO star I would have because on Wednesday, December 28th, 2022 I went I to BJ's to get the silicone wire which holds my glasses lens in place repaired because it snapped.  As luck would have it, the Optometry Kiosk was closed.  Since I was downtown anyway I headed over, on foot, to Fussy Friends on Newark Avenue to pick up a leash for our cat.  On Newark Avenue I saw the SS&D optometrist's office.  "Great!", I thought, "Maybe they can help me!", since the small binder clip holding my lens in place kept coming apart from the frame.  I walked in and after being acknowledged I said, "Good Afternoon.  I am wondering if there is anyone  available who can . . . "  "Did you get them here?", interrupted the receptionist as I finished my sentence with, ". . . glasses."  "No," I said.  In a terse, dismissive manner, devoid of even the slightest eye contact, she responded, "Well, we don't do anything with off site products."  "Well thank you!," I responded feeling rankled and that she, did not, in the least, deserve a thanks.  I headed home and ended up in the lobby of ExtraSuperMarket at 360 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Jersey City, NJ  07305 at PRIVATE EYEWEAR [973 567 8076].  The gentleman within (whose name I've forgotten because I took too long to write this review) took my glasses without question when I asked if he could repair them and said, "Sure!".  He looked them over and said he certainly could fix them but it would take a while . . . about 20 minutes and suggested I could shop and come back.  Since I am myopic I chose to wait and a most pleasant wait it was!  After repairing my glasses, he pointed out that they might break easily again and, if they did that, that I should come back immediately for the repair.  Additionally, after charging me NOTHING, he gave me a 15% off coupon and I was merrily on my way in the spirit of the season; completely cleansed of the slimy residual affects the SS&D experience left on me earlier in the day.  PRIVATE EYEWEAR has left a lasting, positive, uplifting impression for which I am very grateful. read more

It's 11:24 and so far I have only been called back to have air blown in my eyes and sent BACK to the waiting room for another 15 minutes. I've been going to Drs. Savoy, Siegel and Desai's office for about 20 years. I have always received great service from Jamie (Sales person) and Sandra (Office manager). These two people are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and have gone above and beyond my expectations many time when I needed my new glasses very quickly. I film a lot of wild life (mostly wolves) and my eye glasses are obviously a very important tool to me. read more

I came here for a regular eye exam on a Fri morning and had an easy breezy experience. I usually don't go anywhere rated less than 3 1/2 stars but I was five years overdue for a check-up and this is a seven minute walk from my apartment so... I threw caution to the wind! Making an appointment over the phone was quick. I did notice that the receptionist became a bit friendlier when I told her I had a certain insurance. Not sure if I'm just imagining that or what the reason would even be. She let me know that I could print out the new patient forms from the website and fill them out beforehand, which was convenient. At the office, everybody I interacted with was very friendly and I only had to wait about 10 minutes or so. Dr. Blazer was really nice and informative and professional. My experience was pretty great, though I only needed a routine exam and no contacts or glasses and so perhaps that's what made it feel so easy. She was so awesome and recommended me a new type of contacts to try out ! The lady who helped me pick out my frames at the end was so friendly ! I am sitting here waiting at 10:30am to complete my 9:45am eye exam that I was told would take 15 minutes total. It's like waiting in the DMV in here, lots of people in a big waiting room, and an assembly line style service. Ugh I should have been suspicious when I asked which doctor I would see when scheduling my appointment, and was told a variety of names of doctors working this morning. The only thing good about this place is it is conveniently located on the Newark Ave pedestrian mall by Grove St. That is not enough to be coming back here. I was suspicious when they asked me to pay when I arrived, before seeing the doctor. Adding.... I spoke to the person I scheduled my appointment with, she got me in to see a doctor right away. I had an appointment at this place 3 weeks ago. I waited about 30 minutes to be seen. The doctor was very nice, friendly and quick. Was pretty happy UNTIL I had to deal with the lady who is in charge of helping you with either glasses or contacts. This person was rude from the second she was handed my file. Without even checking my insurance, she told me the contacts I needed would not be covered. She kept telling me "I have had other patients who needed this type of contact, and they never approve." I felt like telling her "I don't care about other patients!" But I didn't want to be rude to her, which I should have been cause she was so nasty. Then she "attempted" to call my insurance and waited less then a minute before she hangs up, annoyed as hell, and says "I can't reach your insurance, so I will call you once I reach them." A week goes by and I hear NOTHING. So I decide to call her and when she comes on the phone, she gets upset with me because I was calling her. She tells me "I told you...I will call you when I hear something". Two weeks later she called me, and again with her bitch ass attitude, told me "I got the response from the insurance, and they are not paying no where near enough...you will have to pay 1900 if you want the contacts." This person acted as if this money that the insurance should cover, would be coming out of her own damn pocket. Worst customer service I have had in a long time. Recently went in for the first time... Overall, it wasn't an awful experience, but it was far from great. Office staff was friendly & helpful, however the business as a whole was mass chaos the second I walked in the door. When I arrived for my 5:30 appt, they still hadn't taken back the 4:00 appts. Needless to say, I spent most of my evening there. Now, I understand that they were running terribly behind, however, I still expect a thorough exam. I felt completely rushed & the doctor neglected to acknowledge the fact that I repeatedly told him my vision in one eye was still off after him giving me a new prescription. In fact, it was so rushed that I don't know that the doctor even introduced himself. Overall, I am quite disappointed in the quality of service and still need to see another optometrist to have my vision examined again. How this place is open for business, I have NO idea! From the very moment I walked in, not a "HELLO" or "WELCOME" just rolling of the eyes & unprofessionalism! I got there at 5:20 when they closed at 6 to purchase eyeglasses, I had a prescription so no need for an eye exam! & with much attitude & dryness was told I won't be able to purchase or begin the process of purchasing eyewear because they close in 40 minutes & they need at least an hour & a half notice to do so! It's so sad because even though I have insurance I would have GLADLY paid out of pocket costs for eyewear I really admired! BUT due to lack of professionalism & drive to maintain a decent SUCCESSFUL business I would NEVER return nor EVER recommend this horrible excuse of a business to ANYONE! Looks like my eyesight is going to be royally screwed for a year. I used to go to Dr Savoy's office because they were pretty good. Now I'm going to have to find another eye doctor because they don't want to be bothered. I went in for my checkup in August and got me progression glasses, figuring this would be better since my eyes are not as good as it was. It's a $130 mistake because after a couple of weeks, I can't get used to having half my lens being fuzzy and the only way I can read anything without problems is if I tilt my head down. I tried to see if I can at least get a regular prescription without the progression and was told no since I was told about how these lens were going to be. I also asked if they could fix my old glasses, which they have done in the past. I even offered to pay since these glasses were from last year. I was told no since a soldering blow torch was needed to fix them. So I'm going to assume that the old glasses weren't going to be fixed if they were under warranty? Should be a fun year not seeing anything until my next check up. Thanks alot. read more
