I try not to be negative when I'm doing reviews. I also try to be fair. So here goes nothing. There's kinda two parts to this place. One part is the whisky creek bar kinda side. The other side has a bar but it's more the restaurant side. I only went to the restaurant side so that's what my review is today. I guess it also pops up as "The Base Bar and Lounge" but that's hard to find anywhere. So it's actually in Springfield which is part of Battle Creek out by the airport and Fort Custard Industrial Park. The inside has of televisions on the walls with various sports being watched. There's even a stage for live bands tucked away. Plenty of seating and lots of elbow room. In warmer weather, it looks like some outdoor seating and some fun summer activities. Unfortunately it's cold during my visit. My GF ordered a mushroom Swiss burger with tater tots, and I got some beef nachos. They certainly gave it the old college try. We actually shared each others food to see if the other person could taste anything. It just seemed like nothing was seasoned and they were just doing the bare minimum. There was no love in anything we had. If I had to imagine everything on my plate being frozen, premade, or out of a box, this meal tasted exactly that. I'm sorry but it just wasn't good. Now the service on the other hand went pretty good. Very friendly and polite. She couldn't give me any recommendations though because she didn't seem to care too much for the food herself. The place was clean too. At least the dining area was. I didn't use the bathroom. My GF did, and she didn't come running out screaming so I assume it was ok. Our server was so nice and efficient!!! I swear she brought a new iced tea right when I finished my first one, I was so impressed. The 50 cent wings are a must and you can choose from a ton of different sauces to put on them. I got the popcorn shrimp- it normally comes with cole slaw, I got Sriracha cheese curds instead and they were amazing. Slightly spicy and tangy, super crispy and the cheese was a little stringy but not too squeaky. The tater tots were pretty standard but good. Popcorn shrimp was on the small side but it was crispy, and the marinara sauce was amazing. Overall the food was fine, service is great, and prices are very reasonable. Eep, I feel the need to drop my initial rating of 4 after going back today. Ended up there for the 2nd time this week just by happenstance. It's best to stick to the pizza here. We had the chicken nibblers (the texture was just really weird. some parts of it was like it was brined but then really soft/mushy at the same time?) and then the JB's Signature Bacon Cheeseburger (Chargrilled and served upside-down with our house cheese sauce, bacon and house made pico...) was really rare for a medium rare & really not all that tasty.... ---- I've been here twice now, but this was the first time I tried JB's food. Because it was a Monday, we were pleasantly surprised by the half off all pizzas (dine in or carry out. all day long!). So we got: *Pizza - of course! We basically built a large everything pizza. It was pretty solid pizza. The crust was a little cardboard-y bland because there definitely wasn't enough sauce BUT if you're looking for a pizza that's not "fast food," this is a great option. It's even better that it was half off! *Sriracha Cheese Curds (Fresh Wisconsin cheddar cheese curds breaded and tossed in our sriracha dry rub) - I love cheese curds and I liked the extra punch of flavor from the sriracha dry rub. As with any cheese curds, you gotta eat these hot! Make sure you check your bill! Not only did we not get the Monday special discount, but we were also charged for an item that never showed up at the table (even after telling our server that we no longer wanted it because we were too full). read more

Ate here for dinner on Saturday evening. We sat outside under the pavilion, it was a great atmosphere and imagine it'd be fun when there's live music. Their cheese curds were delicious and the Mac and cheese dishes were super yummy but the portions were a little small. Their bbq items were well flavored. My wife has allergies so it can be difficult at times to eat at restaurants. To avoid 100 questions, she normally orders salads as most, not all, dressings are ok for her to eat. However, during our lunch yesterday, my wife asked about the ranch dressing and the waitress stated, paraphrasing a little, "It's an inconvenience to look and I honestly don't have time". I'm honestly appalled at the behavior of staff and whoever calls the shots here. Yesterday a man tragically passed away here from a heart attack. It was an extremely traumatic, painful, horrible, incredibly sad moment, obviously. His brother heroically gave him CPR and brought him back for a bit before paramedics arrived and tried to bring him back for an hour. Unfortunately the man passed away in front of his family. Any of us helped how we could and stayed to comfort the family. What was so appalling is that the staff chose to do their side work and mop and clean and carry on conversations literally around this man dying on the floor. The manager should've asked their staff to either leave or sit in the next room until paramedics were completed. Which they DID once they had to pronounce the man deceased. But they DIDNT the entire time this man was fighting for his life and his family was crying in pain. At one point the white girl bartender with culturally appropriative hair and a guy on staff felt the need to loudly make jokes and had the audacity to audibly laugh and laugh. It was all I could do to not embarrass them then and there for their disrespect and selfishness. Even the man's mother looked over to ask why are they laughing! I can't understand the lack of heart and decency it would take for someone to make jokes and laugh while a man is dying feet away from them. ROTTEN. How could your staff be so disrespectful? I understand you have work to do and you want to go home but it's not every day someone is dying on your floor. You should've had the competence to have some respect and wait the HOUR for this man to leave this earth before mopping around his body on the floor being worked on by paramedics. I haven't seen much that is so disrespectful and ignorant, honestly. If I was on the wait staff I would've let whatever foolish manager know that there is a TIME AND PLACE and your closing side work is not more important than this man and his family going thru what they had to. I'm so angry and disgusted that some of that family's last moments with their son included hearing jokes made and being bustled around because of side work at a minimum wage job. If I could give 0 stars I would. But the 1 star can go to our waitress- who was very kind and attentive during our meal. I understand some Of the wait staff was just following idiotic, selfish orders from whatever fool thought it was appropriate to do so. I can't even imagine asking my staff to perform work as a man is dying next to them. Seriously wtf is wrong with you. Whoever was managing the staff, the girl and guy making jokes and laughing loudly, you should be so ashamed of yourself and your selfish, horrible mentality. How could you? Shame on you. Wasn't sure what to expect from here. I liked the name and the menu looked good on-line. Husband had a meeting with his friends so I tagged along. (There's a great area for meetings in the back, which worked well for their needs) I ordered chicken wings and a side salad, he ordered The Private (8 oz. steak with two sides for $10), everything was good. What super impressed me was all the amazing metal work EVERYWHERE...all so beautifully done I couldn't help but take lots of pictures. Service was prompt and friendly, manager was very helpful and owner was a very nice guy. I can see this place getting super busy in the warmer months. Okay, after driving by about a million times and always seeing the parking lot packed I decided to stop in. I will say they have an very big bar where you can probably get any drink ever made. We started off with their sriracha cheese curds, those things are like amazing, I'm going to need the recipe. I had their buffalo chicken wrap and it was super delicious and I don't even like blue cheese but still enjoyed it. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger and that thing was huge and super cheesy! We came to try these guys out a couple days after their grand opening. Love the menu, prices, and food. They also have an exclusive beer on draft from Kalamazoo (Brite Eyes Brewing Co.) that closely resembles Bell's Oberon. We came with family, after my wife and I had already eaten a couple hours prior elsewhere, so we only got the pretzel bites to snack on. They were good as a quick appetizer and came in a fun little container shaped like a beer bottle. I can't wait to go back and try and full entree and have a full experience here. read more

We held our father's memorial service in their banquet room and I have to say everything was perfect. I didnt know what to expect when coming here. My parents have been here and said that it's gotten a lot better than it used to be. I loved the atmosphere. It was a bar but had a family vibe to it. The server was nice. There was live music which was great. I want that impressed with the food though. I got the pulled pork. Nothing special about it and the meat was kind of cold. We visited recently for the first time, and it was ok. We'd like to see these guys make it, and we'll try to do our part to support them. We like the building and like the concept (the outdoor seating area looks like it'll be epic!), but they need to mature a good bit more. To start with, the servers need to be organized. There were a few working along at various tasks, and just as many that seemed to be wandering aimlessly. The young lady that waited on us was very friendly, but didn't seem to know much about the food, and had she offered dessert before leaving the check, she'd have sold more. The food was alright. Brew city apps I think... pretzel bites were pretty good. The hodgepodge fries were different, and pretty good. Certainly fresh and hot. The burgers were just ok. The beef are supposed to be 28 day dry aged, so I expected more flavor. Part of the issue is probably the fact that they were both over cooked. If you offer me a choice, please cook it that way. Asked for medium, got well done. In my opinion, the worst thing you can do to good beef is over cook it. Now last, but certainly not least... I hope those liquor shelves hold up! They look like they're leaning, bending and sagging, and to have one fail would be absolutely tragic! read more

We have enjoyed this place multiple times since it opened and the meals have been very tasty most every visit. It seems to be doing quite well. They just opened up the outdoor portion of the venue and it was very busy last night (May 12th). One concern I'd like to point out to the establishment is the dangerous edge on the overhang of the outdoor bar. It is quite sharp and right at forehead height for those about 6ft tall. It needs some kind of padding to ensure no one cuts themselves on it. read more

The skinny: Decent food, good price points, friendly service, huge whiskey selection, limited beer taps. The details: Friday evening, not in the mood to cook; hub suggests we try "a new place on the way to Battle Creek." We arrived around 6:30, and were the first to go on a waiting list for a table for 4. The wait was about 10 mins; people behind us were being told 30. Overall, service was friendly but disorganized. We had two different servers come to take our order, and a third brought the food out. Food came out when ready, not all together, so some of us watched others eat for a bit. Hub ordered buffalo wings, and despite specifying blue cheese dressing on the side, got ranch -- a cardinal sin for the hub. But the buffalo sauce was spicy, and he enjoyed them once the error was corrected. Hub also had a chef salad, which was a nice size. I ordered the club sandwich; it was a traditional club with ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo on three slices of toast. Big and yummy. Sandwiches come with kettle chips, which were good and crispy. You can upgrade to "hodgepodge fries," which are a mix of a few different kinds of fries. I like my fries "regular," so skipped that option. Kid 1 got a Custer's bacon burger. It was cooked as ordered, served with hodge podge fries. She was asked what kind of cheese she wanted and requested American; when the bill arrived there was a $1 up-charge for cheese (disappointing...) The burger was big and juicy, and the bacon was crisp. Kid 2 ordered the chili cheese dip, an appetizer order that was plenty for a meal. Cute touch: red white and blue "patriotic tortilla chips." Overall, a decent meal at a decent price, but nothing really "wow" enough to inspire us to make the roughly 30-minute trek again. If we lived closer, it could be a regular spot, and it certainly seemed busy with regulars. The staff organization needs some fine tuning; maybe this will get better as they grow. And with a great whiskey bar, it would have been nice to see a full list, and maybe some drink specials! I was too lazy to ask, so just ordered beer. read more

The best part of our experience was our server. She wise happy and attentive and she just short of plopped down next to us and eat with us and I actually quite appreciated the warmth! The restaurant was pretty nice inside. Unfortunately I feel like we were somewhat lead astray on the menu. She really really recommended their cheese sauce, told us it was the best stuff ever and unfortunately, at least that night, it just wasn't the case. It looked more like poorly mixed cream cheese and maybe cheddar and had an odd sweetness to it. We had the nacho app which had the sauce and it wasn't amazing, nor was it terrible, it was just okay. My husband ordered the pulled pork mac and cheese, and that crazy sauce again made its appearance. The pulled pork was actually quite good, though, and the sauce was nice and tangy but nothing too bold. I ordered the strip steak that wasn't seared incredibly well, it was one of the thinnest cuts I've ever seen, but it was seasoned well and didn't taste bad. The mashed potatoes, yeah I can't say I'd recommend those at all. I will probably try the place again, but maybe make different food choices next time! read more

Wish I had taken a photo! I definitely will next time, this is becoming a favorite Sunday night dinner spot. This was my 2nd visit and I ordered the Double Barrel nachos w/ chicken and asked to have refried beans added to them (no charge!) Big mistake (Not really) they were HUGE and not just the top chips with goodies like I e gotten so many times. Needless to say I think I'll get the half order next time but I did want leftovers which I got! They were awesome it it was kinda embarrassing getting that huge pizza pan plate brought out just for me! So if you like nachos like I unfortunately do this is the place! There is no establishment anywhere within 50 miles that can offer this selection of spirits. food is good and reasonably priced, but for me it's all about the opportunity to try hundreds of types of spirits without laying out the price of a full bottle. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night with my wife. While I loved the place and the atmosphere, I did not like the service so much. Our waitress was very nice and pleasant but you could tell that she was either new or that serving wasn't what she should do. She forgot our orders a couple times, and then forgot who ordered what and handed the food to the wrong people. But overall the food was very good and the prices are very reasonable. I do plan on coming back, I just hope the service gets better and that they get better, more experienced servers soon. read more

This is a great place to eat. There homemade Mac and cheese is awesome. I would always recommend going there if you want to support a great Battle Creek business. There staff there is very nice. They also have live music. The only thing is they are open till only 10:00 on a Saturday which is kind of early. But I really don't have a big problem with that. First time here tonight. Place was pretty slow (6 pm on a Monday), which was nice as the service was prompt and attentive and the food came out fast. I had the chicken fried steak, and it was delicious. I was slightly caught off guard as the gravy used to top it, was sausage gravy but it tasted pretty amazing. So I've been here twice, eaten here once. First time was lunch time, they seemed super busy, and took forever to get me a menu and water. I had to leave after the water because my lunch break is not infinite. I was already 15 minutes in and nobody had even taken my order. I wasn't going to hold the first time against them since I didn't even taste the food... maybe it was a one-off. So I decided to go back on a quieter day. Second time was faster, but still kinda slow considering the amount of people there. It took a while to make the food, but when it came out it was cold. This dish had cheese and chilli on it and the cheese barely melted. I'm not talking refrigerator cold, but lukewarm to room temp. I'm not sure what they were doing to it back there, but I suspect it was ready for a while before someone brought it out to me. Summary: Good prices, decent-ish food, polite but slow service, cannot recommend for lunch unless you have 1 hour+ to spare. read more

This place is an alcoholics dream, especially if you ride away on a motorcycle. This is a biker bar, no doubt about it. The place smells of booze once you walk in, kind of disgusting.
