We had the pleasure of working with John and his company JBN MECHANICAL this past winter. Our 15 year old heat pump (connected as part of a heat pump/gas furnace combination) finally gave out and we contacted his firm for a quote. We did our research on different brands and systems prior to calling several local firms for quotes. While many of the brands are good, some are better. However, the resounding them from online sources was/is this: Most products are good/fairly equivalent, but the success of any system comes from the quality of the installation. A poor install will surely create problems down the road. Guaranteed. With this in mind we fielded some quotes. John promptly came to our home, evaluated our situation (home size, heating/cooling needs, etc) and then offered us several options to choose from. Each option came with candid pluses/minuses, and he also educated us on the merits and disadvantages of each option. None of the other companies took such time with us to help us understand what our home needed. After evaluating the JBN quote, and comparing it to others, we made the decision to go with JBN. The thoroughness of the discussion around our situation, what would work best, and the clear level of detail regarding the installation is what sold us. Other companies either offered us a system which was so cheap it was too good to be true, or like another, tried to direct us towards one of the cookie cutter options out of their brochure. JBN offered us a well thought out solution based on our home and needs. On installation day, John and his JBN team arrived on time, and finished well before he said they were likely to be done. The work area in our basement was swept and cleaned up nicely, and they removed all of the previous equipment for disposal. JBN offers Bryant systems for Heat Pumps in general, and the system we purchased has been wonderful. It is quiet, efficient, and very easy to operate. The included thermostat came with an app for our phones, and we can now change the operation of the system from anywhere. Similarly we can see and track our energy usage within the app and thermostat. It is a cutting edge system. John was sure to fill out our Energy Rebate form and provide it to us when the work was completed. All in all a detailed approach with the customer in mind all the way through. If you are in need of a new residential heating system, please be sure to include JBN Mechanical as one of the musts for your quote process. John, the owner of JBN Mechanical, is an absolute gem of a human and a lifesaver! First of all, they are locally owned and operated, John, as I mentioned, is the owner and was the one who answered the phone and worked with me. I called him for a second opinion regarding my HVAC system repair/maintenance when Triangle (SCAMMERS, DON'T USE THEM) came to clean my air ducts and quoted me an outrageous amount (upwards of $50k) telling me I'd need a complete rehaul of my system and ductwork. John came out and got everything working perfectly and told me everything I was told was a lie and they were using scare tactics to con me into spending an obscene amount of money. John even fixed/cleaned up the issues and mess the other company had left and gave me a short list of things to do to ensure my system stays running smoothly for years to come. Our AC went out for the fourth time in as many years, and I wanted to try a new mechanical team. John responded very quickly to my request--texting me to confirm a time to visit. I cannot emphasize how great it was to get a text for scheduling: fantastic! On his visit he was timely, professional, friendly, and fast at diagnosing the problem: an unusual challenge with our breaker that nobody else had checked. I agree with the other reviewers, John is a great communicator and breaks down the problem into easy to understand terms. John is also the first service person to comment that he actually "likes" the Nest thermostat. It is saving us a lot of money, and every previous team grumbled that they were just trouble. Woke up this morning and the house was freezing! The air conditioner was running despite the fact that the room temperature was below what it was set at. Checked the equipment and discovered that a damper was stuck in the closed positio, causing the unit to run when there was no demand. Called our service company and they didn't have anyone available to come today but scheduled us for tomorrow afternoon. So I searched HVAC companies and read reviews about John at JBN Mechanicals. I called and left a message and he was kind enough to text me and let me know he was also booked up. He also told me what to do to get the damper to open so we could run the system until it gets repaired. What a great guy! Unfortunately, he's so great, his dance card is all full! Expert on Mitsubishi AC/Heating units. Good customer service. We had a unit installed 7 years ago by someone else and John serviced that unit. He had someone clean it and he checked the performance of the unit. He did such a good job. He also installed three units on the other side of my house and did a superior job, as compared to the other unit installed by a different contractor. The guy knows what he is doing. A+ read more
