Take a carriage ride to find your Christmas tree or walk a corn maze in the fall. This tree farm is a family favorite.

Ruffing’s Tree Farm - A nice path in the blue spruce trees leading to the white spruce

They had two kinds of trees available, which included blue spruce in the near field and white spruce in the next field down. The trees were very nice ranging in sizes up to 10 feet tall. You are welcome to bring your own saw, but they have some nice Fiskars saws available (a family there had an old two man saw that they had been using for 22 years!). The trees are on a gentle slope and are not too far away from where you park. There were plenty of trees to choose from and most were well shaped, full, and pleasing to the eye. Much better than another tree farm we went to the weekend before, which we left empty handed and another place we have traditionally gone to, but has become too picked over. The best part about this place may be that ANY tree is only $29!!! This is probably the best deal you will find for a real tree. Also, they'll bale it for only $1. In addition, they have live wreaths for only $10. Plus, they are dog friendly! I think this place will become our family's yearly tradition for real Christmas trees. It is a bit out of the way for someone near Pittsburgh, but not too far. I highly recommend making this your family's choice as well!

After striking out twice at other businesses in the area, one of the shops suggested I look here. You know what? They have just about everything you could imagine. I had a few plants that I couldn't find anywhere in the DC or Baltimore area. I must have called about 20 different shops. Not only did this place have what I was looking for, they had about 5 different versions of the same plant. Each of the staff members went out of their way to talk me through what type of soil I needed, where to plant each one and tips on making my yard grow better. I was writing so much of it down, since they were such a wealth. I've never seen so many plants, and it was reasonably priced. I honestly may make this my go to plant nursery each year. It's worth the drive from DC.

Their products are 1st class in quality and very reasonably priced for the most part. They have a great number of different plants. But the game winner is that they really know what varieties of plants will perform the best and that is what they stock. Its nice to have a local nursery that cares about giving their customers only the very best.

Growing up in Florida, we picked oranges, mangoes, and avocados, but I'd never been apple picking. It was time. I pulled into the very full parking lot and was guided by an employee into a spot. Headed inside passed the beautiful pumpkin and flower displays. To have an apple picking session, you needed to make the line and purchase a bag. The line was all the way to the back of the store. I was able to shop most of the market while waiting and had a very good time. So much fresh produce, and Amish condiments. Once I got to the cashier, I purchased a bag and then headed out to the orchard across the street. You check in with the table at the front, and then meander through all the beautiful rows of apple varieties, filling your bag at youre leisure. It was gorgeous. None of these apples were waxed or uniform, and they tasted so lusciously sweet. Not bland like the perfect looking grocery store types. I've been ruined. I put the apples in my car, and then explored the party that was taking place outside the building. There was live music, pumpkin carving, rabbits, food trucks, kettle corn and more. I got some meat pies at the Australian truck, and apple cider & apple cider donuts from the restaurant inside. Took them back out to the picnic table and enjoyed the lively scene. After lunch, I went back across the street for a hayride up to the pumpkin patch. We passed sunflower fields and other crops on the way. It's a beautiful property. Once in the pumpkin patch, something else I'd never done before, I went on a hunt to pick my perfect pumpkin- Still attached to the vine! I was surprised by all the different sizes and shapes. There were colors ranging from white to yellow to orange to green. Big and small, bumpy and smooth. All growing together in happy harmony. I know if I lived close by this would be a yearly tradition. Taking my chosen pumpkins to the table to pay, I was feeling super content with the days fall festivities. A couple of great firsts!

When we went out, the fields were full of weeds and hard to walk through. Furthermore, there almost no strawberries and if there were any they were the size of a thumbnail. We were very disappointed and sad so we decided to go into the farms store to just buy a couple bins. To our surprise they were almost $9 for one. We ended up spending $60 on strawberries, which is by far the most we have ever spent. I was extremely disgruntled.
