Since last year, EB games started accepting trade-ins of other items like iPod in addition to consoles and video games. I went in to find the best price for trading in my old iPod. The counter staff are very quick and efficient. They confirmed the price and offered to exchange, upgrade or trade in the product. Not inclined to buy any games from there, I chose to skip the offer. As I was leaving, I noticed they sell HDMI cables and a whole bunch of accessories for media and phones and consoles. I wasn't aware I could buy electronic accessories at EB games.. Good to know and made a mental note to include EB in my price comparison list.

If I were living here, or had more suitcase room, I'd support this store on a regular basis!

It not only sells books but CDs, stuff toys, stationary and even jewellery. The store is very bright and welcoming. The employees there are very friendly and can definitely help you out with any of your queries. It even has a small cafe inside the shop and a mini playground for the kids. The store itself is pretty big compared to a normal bookstore. Everything is organised and labelled so for example, if you're looking for Bibles, there is a Bible sign that you can't miss. There's also a toilet inside in case you need to go! If you think that you're going there from time to time then I suggest to be a member (for free) so that they can give you a membership card. It's pretty much like flybuys where you get points for every purchase. They can also send you a catalogue if you want to see what's on sale. Sometimes they even send you a job advertisement in case you would like to be part of the Koorong team. Definitely check it out! The other week, I bought a red Lumix (Panasonic), and it seems to be in top condition. More than the quality of their cameras, it's the friendliness of the staff that impresses me. They are quite frank and upfront, and almost apologetic about their sometimes ridiculous prices. For instance, I had wanted to get my previous camera fixed, and was told apologetically that it would cost me up to $250, and that it would probably be cheaper to buy a new camera altogether. Which I promptly did!

One assistant tried to sell me the cheapest unit even when I insisted that I wanted a sturdy carbon fibre tripod & ballhead. She wanted to help, but didn't ask about my needs and budget, or know much about the products they sell. The store 'expert' stood aloof and only gave monosyllabic answers when the lady chased him down to relay my questions. Perhaps they made a lot of assumptions about me - I don't know - but if they had only bothered to speak to me and helped me they would have soon figured out that was ready spend $6-700 and very likely to have come back as a loyal customer. The Paxtons nearby was more helpful, knew my gear and their products, but didn't have the range to show me. I'm off to the web to buy.

I ordered a mobile phone during the EOFY sales online. The Google Pixel was on discount across all…read moreretailers. I decided to buy it through OfficeWorks, which clearly was a wrong decision. They promised to deliver the product three to four days after the purchase date. I waited for more than two weeks and tried to reach out to their "Customer Service" multiple times. Each time, I got a different story! They ended up claiming it was the courier's issue, which was clearly not the case. The mobile phone ran out of stock on the website, and they had no inventory left. They weren't even willing to call me back, and every time I called, they asked me to call again in a couple of days. Their customer service couldn't be worse! After waiting for more than 20 days, they decided to simply cancel the order and issue a refund - without even consulting me. Now, I've missed the sales period as the EOFY time has ended, and I have to pay around $400 extra compared to the discounted price! I will never shop here again

We all breathed a sigh of relief when Christine took over, revamped the store and named it Brown Books. Jam packed with delights including a large selection of children's books, lots of Australian fiction, a big sci-fi/fantasy section, as well as a well-stocked classics section, history, science; well, you get the idea. While there's an emphasis on recent releases there are also plenty of quirky gems to fossick through and I'm loathe to think how much I've spent here over the years. The store is decorated by making use of the art of vintage bookcovers, especially of the endearingly schlocky kind, giving it that warm feel so beloved of the book obsessed. Easily one of my favorite book local book haunts and a vast improvement upon its earlier incarnation. Shopping online doesn't hold a candle to a really good bookshop. I'm off to the collectibles section to look for something unexpected...

Honestly, why can't they introduce a concept like this in Melbourne because it will make the secondhand bookshops so much better when you can sit on a comfy chair and drink a coffee (or a tea) while perusing a book. The book station at Caringbah is essentially a secondhand book shop with a coffee shop which oozes community spirit and a love for books (and coffee). The shop is split level with an array of eclectic furniture, where you are encouraged to browse and read at you leisure. The books are very well organised in sections according to interest, and the people who work there will do what they can to assist you in finding what you need.
