The place was so crowded with good vibes, great conversations with strangers, and their beer selection...10/10. I learned what a pickleback was here. Did I try??..... It's been years since I've been here, but between Jay's making lists for top dives in NJ and top beer lists in the country I have been meaning to get back. Prior to going I looked up their beer list on Untappd and was overwhelmed by the beer selection. Unfortunately (but fortunately because it made my beer selection decisions much easier) many of the craft beers listed were sold in cans. The beers on the numbered list on Untappd are the beers available on tap (all other beers listed are in cans or bottles). They still had a nice variety of craft beers on tap and I really enjoyed the few I tried. They seemed a bit pricey though and even the lower ABV beers were served in smaller glasses. We got two seats at the bar around 6:30 on a Friday night. All night people were coming and going and there was nobody really standing around waiting for bar seats for too long. The bartender was nice and he was the only one working when we first arrived but after a bit there were multiple people behind the bar. It definitely felt divey inside. My dad said the bar top was the same bar top from years and years ago when he used to come here when he was my age. We split wings with medium Buffalo sauce and cheesesteak fries. I frequently see Jay's wings mentioned on SJFS and for good reason. They were top notch and I'd come back just for the wings. They might even be at the very top of my wing list (although I'd try a different sauce next time). Incredibly crispy and weren't chewy whatsoever. The cheesesteak fries (cheesesteak served over a bed of waffle fries were also surprisingly good. While at Top Golf earlier in the week our bay host recommended them and advised all the food at Jay's is very good. I wasn't expecting to spend $100+ at a dive bar between two of us but the experience was very good. If I lived a little closer I would definitely be there all the time. Even though the beer list is good I'd probably stick with drinking a domestic draft or bottle the next time I go to avoid spending as much as we did on smaller glasses of craft beer. I will definitely be back and will be looking forward to trying more menu items in the future. read more

On the upper end of dive bars when it comes quality of food, staff and hours of operation. The patrons are a very mixed bag, Some of the best and worst people. So there is definitely variety but tread lightly most people here wont back down from a fight. That being said if you don't act foul then the place will be very inviting. Price scale is mixed, somethings way over priced other things way under priced. So it evens out in the end, especially if you don't piss off the staff. read more

Everything almost perfect, been coming here on/off for about 10 years. The one thing that would make it perfect is to have attractive females bartending instead of the middle age men they have. This place is pretty awful. Not many patrons have all their teeth. There is a rug on the floor that has basically become LVT over the decades. The bar top is too low for the seats which i hate. I can't believe I haven't written a review of Jay's. Basic bar with a pool table, juke box, outdoor patio seating for good weather days. They have a surprisingly wide selection of beer, although on the last few occasions our number 1 choice has been unavailable. Prices are reasonable, for basic brews and drinks. Specialty beers can push the tab up a bit. The food is decent bar munchies, wings, burgers, fries, nachos. I haven't tried their daily sandwich specials. The staff is welcoming, and efficient My wife and I make it a point to drop in when we get our car washed next door, as it provides us with the perfect excuse for a mid afternoon beer. read more

This turned out to be a great random find on a work related trip. When I went in the door, my expectations sunk through the floor. There was a bouncer checking IDs and several security personnel around. Not a great way to greet customers but it must be needed. However the bartender was super helpful and friendly. She immediately asked my order and brought me a cold beer. I placed a food order ToGo and it arrived fairly quickly. Unfortunately it was not at all what I ordered but still turned out to be great. The crowd in the place was a great mixture of people from all walks of life. Everyone was happy and having a great time. It could be the fact that the Eagles had just won but regardless I enjoyed the hour or so I spent here. One of the best "dive bars" I've been to in a long time. And the drinks are CHEAP! Hole in the wall but great service and really, really good wings! Went around lunch time and it had a decent crowd seated at booths/tables and a few people at the bar. Let me tell you i am way to sober for the shit that just happened Jay's Elbow Room! The bouncers literally let me in then gave my husband and our friend a hard time. I literally had my diaper changed on this MF bar. Eddie was my mothers old friend from countryside (Eileen Green) and I grew up with his nephew Mark who we had a few bad moments but he as still like fam bc of our fam! I have literally been here more times in my life than I can count with no issues...here to pregame with my moms friends before and my friends went out, after she passed bc well memories , after my own industry shifts bc well they still served food and tonight bc well we were meeting up with cool peoples. NEVER have I ever in my 48 years of life been so disrespected by a fucking "bouncer". I have been a server and a bartender in those years and this "kid" lost his hod damn mind the way he spoke to us. The staff here are incredible. They're quick to get you settled in when it comes to being unfamiliar with what they have on tap. The wings are spectacular, they have at-least 10-15 wing flavors and do a special every day. The daily sandwich specials are delicious as well. Big selection of brews, an even bigger selection of food, and all types of indoor/outdoor seating. The servers are always very nice and attentive to anything you need. A friend of mine talked up this place's wings, so while I'm not necessarily the person to ask about dive bars (so consider taking my word with a grain of salt), I had to give it a shot... In a word, I wasn't impressed. But again, I'm not looking at it in terms of a place to get hammered, which I imagine is its main appeal. We came in on a Sunday, where the Phillies game was on. I appreciated how many TVs there were in the little place, as well as the fact that people were actually into the game. There were some cool-sounding specials (cheesesteak waffle fries!), but I had a mission to try some wings, so that had to come first! Our sodas came in small plastic cups with paper straws (although paper straws are undeniably lousy, I appreciate the environmental concern, so points to them). Weird. The server was nice... but our food took an absurdly long time - wings and a tuna sandwich on a Sunday afternoon were a tall order, apparently. Though the actual chicken was well-made (juicy, tender, etc.), the sauce was bland and watery. Kind of hard to give high points to wings with lousy sauce. My dad liked his tuna sandwich, but he's pretty easy to please, as far as that goes (plus, it's kind of hard to screw up a tuna sandwich, right?). I still gave it an okay ratings cause I could see how, if you're a big drinker, this could be kind of a cool place, and I'd bet they have some decent items on the menu... just not the wings. Overall, I'm a straight-laced and serious Capricorn lady, but who hasn't gone to get drunk at Jay's Elbow Room? When I was 19, my co-worker/friend who was a few years older, took me here to have a drink. She said it wouldn't be a problem getting served while under-aged. She was right. I had two screwdrivers (those, Bay Breezes, Long Island Iced Teas, and Peach Schnopps were my go-to's "back then") at the bar with her and don't remember much else. I was such a light-weight then(literally, my weight - I still can't drink in the other definition!) and couldn't even get up when it was time to go - gravity was weighing on my little body! I do remember nice people and a casual environment. I think we even knoshed on something? I'm sure if I went back now, it would look like a seedy place where couples go to cheat on their spouses or something. It would be a hoot to visit sometime again, many, MANY, moons later! Well, first time here and I was given a dinky drink for dinky men. Some mini can of modelo that made me thirst for more whilst I looked at it. Feeling seriously jilted, and let-down. No frills dive bar with an A+ beer list and even better food! Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Sat down in the back and were greeted right away. Checked out the beer list and was happy for so many good options. Landed on a Kane beer on tap. Ordered apps for the table. The garlic parm wings had a ton of meet and were flavorful, the fried ravioli was cooked perfect. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap which was a great size, took half to go. Jay's Elbow Room is the definition of a dive bar. Its not the best location - Make sure you put your blinker on before turn onto the lot otherwise you may be rear ended by the person behind you doing 80 mph on rt 73. It is a tiny location with an equally small patio area with cheap well made bar food and a nice selection of craft beer on rotation. Whenever I am in the mood for an in-season craft pint I know I can always find it here. The wings are nicely cooked and satisfy my craving. Did I mention the food here is cheap? The chicken tenders were delicious but I found the fries bland and a little on the soggy side. The burger was nothing special. So moral of the story stick to the fried proteins and you are set. I haven't found the service to be horrendous or offensive but it does take a few for someone to acknowledge you either at the bar or table. This dive bar is iconic. You don't go for the ritz or razzle dazzle; you go for cheap wings and bottom shelf liquor.

I really don't know how this place has a four (4) star rating. The ambiance is in the gutter. They have a drop ceiling with missing sections in one part of this bar. In the dining section, some of the ceiling droops down and other parts that fell appear to be screwed back up with drywall screws. The whole establishment is beyond dirty. Definitely a trashy bar. Now lets talk about service. They don't know the difference between appetizers and main meal. I ordered an appetizer and it came out with my sandwich. When I inquired about it, I was told that I didn't say anything. Ugh, a appetizer come out before the meal. Why do I need to specify that. The ticket time for waiting to get your order was 23.26 minutes. I then waited another 21 minutes before anyone asked if I was ok. I also waited another 20 mins just to get the check.
