Charge forward, the marvellous Bull Inn, the shining light of the Paisley bar scene which has been keeping Buddies happy since 1901, making it officially the oldest pub in the town. The Bull is as handsome a bar as you will find in the west of Scotland and its traditional fittings and homely atmosphere are almost worth the jaunt to Paisley alone. If you do manage to bag one of its four snugs (unlikely during lunch times and big match days) then make sure you cancel any prior arrangements. I didn't arrive in time for food, but 4 out of the 5 people that ate enjoyed their food. I've eaten here in the past and always enjoyed it. It's part of the "sizzling pubs" chain but I'm not familiar with any other sizzling pubs in the area. It's a busy place, there were 15 teams in the pub quiz, and plenty of patrons staying for a gab after their dinner. Nice buzz about the place without being too full to move. It's a fairly standard pub quiz, picture round, music round etc. However, the best part of it is the quizmaster who cheats like mad. Now a cheating quiz master may sound bad but it is the opposite. Even if you have a dreadful round 2 or 3 out of 7 (2 pts a questions) you generally don't get less than 10 points out of 14 points for a round. In this way the quiz actually stays very competitive until the end as even the cleverest of teams can't pull away from the pack. 4 drinks, 2 pints and two short drinks, £12.50 that makes the drinks reasonable priced in my book. Nice night, the only problem is that the quiz starts quite late 9.15 p.m. (it's meant to be 9.00 p.m. but I arrived at 9.30 p.m. and the first round hadn't concluded) so I wasn't home until after 12 on a school night.

Now, Christmas lunch is a notoriously bad affair in most restaurants and it started in a familiar fashion with either pate, soup or prawns, but actuall m pate was nice. I plumped for one of the two pizza's on the menu, it came out and was massive. And it got bigger, m wedge of chocolate at the end was also humungous. In short, I was bested. The pub does not have a lot of student patrons due to its "old man" pub reputation. BTW - the map is messed up for this pub. It is west of the centre of Paisley on the High St (not in Johnstone) near the Paisley Library and Museum.

Used to be under another name but was taken over and refurbished.Generally not somewhere I would…read moredrink as it's a bit of an old mans pub but have been a couple of times for a drink with my Grampa.Interior is ok.clean and tidy,slightly old fashioned.Drink is very cheap which is probably why it's very popular with the older crowd.They have a couple of pool tables and a jukebox,staff are friendly enough.Other than that there isn't too much to say about the Tartan Rose,ideal if your older and looking for a quite drink.oh right next door to two chippies if your looking for food on the way home.
