Beyond excellent, professional, and expert I have an unusual mental issue. Medicines to treat me had not been invented until I was in my late 30s. At this point, I could not lead a normal life. When medicines became available, I started seeking treatment in 2000. I went to four different psychiatrists in 20 years--two over-drugged me close to potentially overdosing. Dr. Lentzner was able to understand my affliction immediately. He has a superior understanding of medications and their effects. I was taking 12 different types of medicines with serious and dangerous side effects. Because of Dr. Lentzner I am only taking 3 now. I IMPROVED. There were no trouble withdrawals. He is kind, understands your description of symptoms, and explains the effects of drugs well. He was able to untangle the mess of meds I was taking and I am leading a much better quality of life than ever. I am so grateful I found him. Talked to his front desk staff, who asked a few questions & said she'd relay the info to the doctor, and that he'd call me back. Called back again, was assured that he'd call back one way or another. After about 3 months... NOTHING! I don't care how good he is, this kind of doctor's behaviour is unacceptable, and all of his professional training is useless for human kind! Dr. Lentzner is one of the most knowledgeable psychiatrists currently practicing in the Long Beach, CA. area. His expertise is unquestionable! A slight clarification is probably needed on the various sites lauding Dr. Lentzner's work: During my most recent visit in 2018, Dr. Lentzner specifically told me that HE DOES NOT DO THERAPY. It's an odd remark, given that his insights are so frequently on-point & astonishingly useful. However, if he gets annoyed or irritated he does become highly sarcastic and inexplicably impatient, which I found to be an unsettling anomaly which detracts from his usual kindness & compassion. Dr. Lentzner is a former attorney & he is obviously extremely brilliant. It is however unwise to get into any discussions with him where he clearly disagrees with you, because he can be *extremely* verbally exacting, the only shortcoming I found in his usually thoughtful & warm demeanor! This is an extremely caring & KNOWLEDGEABLE Doctor whose very human side makes him all the more endearing. Not everyone is a warm & fuzzy caterpillar. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Lentzner's for 18 months. In that time he has not only provided me with excellent medical care, he has also been generous with his time and knowledge. Dr. Lentzner is cautious, considerate and conservative when prescribing medication; he is not a doctor that is quick to write a prescription. He is concerned about me as a whole individual and generous with his time in better understanding me. His holistic approach is beneficial and appreciated. I also appreciate his willingness to educate and inform me about my diagnosis and treatment. He is the only doctor I have had that suggests outside reading material ; leaving me wanting to learn more. When I leave Dr. Lentzner's office I feel inspired, cared for, but most of all heard!! Dr. Lentzner is absolutely wonderful. He worked with me to resolve my sleep issues and spent time finding solutions; I no longer have sleep issues. He is very easy to talk to so if you are fearful of going to a psychiatrist don't worry with Dr. Lentzner. I highly recommend Dr.Lentzner! read more

Dr. Jay Lentzner is the greatest psychiatrist (and also an all around great human being) that I have ever had the pleasure of being a patient of!!! I can honestly say that he saved my life, and continues to do so, as I'm never planning on switching doctors until the day he retires , which is hopefully not anytime soon lol. He is caring , compassionate , empathetic , and also VERY wise and highly intelligent . I trust him completely in every aspect of my care from medication to actual life advice . I doubt that Dr. Lentzner even knows that he has a yelp page because he is (thankfully) not the type of doctor to be concerned with how many stars he has on yelp...and that is exactly why he deserves 5. I don't even live or work anywhere near his office (Memorial Counseling Associates) but I happily and enthusiastically make the drive as often as possible because without Dr. Lentzner my life would be all over the place with no sense of direction whatsoever (nicer of way of saying IN SHAMBLES lol) but on a more serious note ; it's not always easy to find a quality doctor especially when it comes to mental health; there are providers(in all specialties) that are in it for the wrong reasons- and Dr. Lentzner is certainly not one of them , he is in it for the cause and truly the noblest of Doctors. read more

Wow! What a fantastic doctor Dr. Lentzner is. He is the real deal! I was so tired of going to different doctors, trying to find the one that would really listen to me and hear all of my symptoms and give it thought and then do what needs to be done. Well, Dr. Lentzner is that doctor. He spent so much time with me and really listened to what I was saying and really, really heard everything. He isn't the type of doctor to just say, "Okay, you have anxiety, so let's try this drug." No, no, no. He took so much time with me and I really felt he understood what I was going through. I can't even begin to tell you about dr lentzner...I was suffering from depression fibromyalgia panic attacks anxiety and I was very ill physically and mentally worn out. I was frustrated from the poor care from another doctor throwing pills at me and I demanded another doctor to which I was given an appointment for dr lentzner. He listened to me and my wife about my symptoms...non judge mental ...he had zero issues with me being gay and was so nice to us. Within weeks I began an to feel better with medication elimination and prescribing low doses of simple medications. Helped me work through a very stressful awful situation of feeling so bad for so long. I went back to work I even changed careers and went to trade school. No panic attacks no anxiety anymore...I feel better with my fibromyalgia since I was given a correct medication. Best cheer leader and support during a bad time in my life and even though I moved to another city I feel like I can always call him for help if I need it. The staff there is the best! I have become kind of cynical about Psychiatrists and Therapists after dealing with them over the last 20 years but I would definitely recommend Dr. Lentzner. Unlike most Psychiatrists who just try to get you out the door with a prescription after 15 minutes, he does therapy as well. He is interested in hearing your whole history and recommends things other than just medication. He is also conservative about distributing medication. He is a great listener and gives good feedback often summarizing back to you what you just said in a concise and practical manner. read more
