Jax Cuts is a hidden gem in the University Heights area. Since living in San Diego, I've tried many different salons and hairstylists in my neighborhood, and paid between $50-$80 for a women's haircut. I am also not the kind of person who is super particular with my hairstyle as I tend to ask for the same kind of cut each time. I've been coming to Jax cuts over the past 3-4 years seeing Michelle who's done a great job with my hair each time, but since she moved I recently made my first appointment with Jack the owner of the place. I had a great experience! Jack is super friendly and a great conversationalist, and keeps his prices affordable here. Cuts now start at $35 and appointments last about 30 minutes, which I appreciate how fast and efficient he is with getting the job done. I go to Jack. The dude is great and CONSISTENT! He's also a very sweet person and fun to talk to. What I want in a haircut is that it's consistently good and not via a corporation or franchise (often those go hand in hand). Jax is my favorite version of that. This is my favorite salon! I had my hair cut here a year ago for the first time by Jack. His cut was just amazing. For the first time my hair did what I wanted it to do. He added some highlights and my new look was born. I can't tell you how many compliments I got on my hair. I have been going here ever since. A couple months ago Michelle Richardson started working here at Jax Cuts. And today, while Jack was busy, she was able to fit me in spontaneously. I was missing my super short hair that I used to have for so many years. And within 30 minutes, she gave me a super cute and fun haircut. I absolutely love it. I will not go anywhere else! I went to Jack about a year ago to get a trim. I had long, curly/wavy hair which was down to the middle of my back. A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to have a shorter cut. I was afraid I would chicken out, and as I had put my hair into a long braid that morning, I cut the braid. 8 inches of it. Then I walked over to Jax to have my cut! I believe that this hair cut, now to the top of my shoulders, is one of the best cuts I have ever had!!! I forgot how curly my hair is when it is short. It is the perfect cut for the curls. I've been getting my hair cut by Jack for a while, now, long before he opened his salon. He was the best-kept secret in town at that name-brand chain place, and now he's the best-kept secret salon owner! It really shouldn't be kept secret, though. I was able to walk in for my last cut. Eventually, I think people will figure out he's there and realize what great work he does. It will be harder to get an appointment then, but it will be worth it. Things to know about Jack and Jax Cuts: he does an amazing job; he listens to what you actually want; he gives great suggestions; he's very friendly and down-to-earth. The icing on the cake is that he's VERY inexpensive! If you're looking for a high-end haircut at an affordable price, you need to see Jack. I can't say enough great things about him. I've been getting my hair cut by Jack for several years now. In addition to what the other reviewers have posted I'd like to add a few more positives. First of all, he's consistent. I can't tell you how many stylists start off strong, then stop paying attention to what they're doing after a couple of return visits. Second, he is always a joy to visit. His positive attitude just makes you feel good, which is why you're getting a haircut in the first place. Best of all, he does a great job.
