The shopkeeper was friendly and we enjoyed visiting with her and the owner when he came in. We learned that the diner was not already in existence, and it's not a diner! It's a souvenir shop. The diner was a set built for the movie. The souvenirs are reasonably priced with LOTS of t-shirt choices. Madrid is along the Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway and a great day trip if you're near Santa Fe.

June 4, 2023 - Casa Grande Trading Post, (Cerillos, NM) We…read morestopped in here on a Sunday afternoon after a reconnaissance mission to check out the Cerillos Hills State Park (which does not have a Yelp presence). Looks like there are some good hiking and mountain bike trails there. There is also an outfitter nearby where they do guided horseback rides. We had been here a couple years ago after having lunch at the Black Bird Cafe in town, a good spot for burgers and a beer. The trading post has lots of turquoise and copper related rocks and more glass pin electric wire insulators than you could ever imagine. Glass pin insulators were used to insulate electric line and telegraph line wires from support structures that hold them off the ground. The period from 1875 to 1930 might generally be thought of as the "heyday" of the glass insulator. Hundreds of millions of these glass "bells" were produced during this time. Thay also have a small animal pen at the Trading Post that has a llama, goats, and various birds. You can buy feed in the store for $4 to feed to the animals. There is a viewing area just outside the Trading Post where you can check out the nearby riverbed an a few rock formations in the distance.
