What a cute coffee shop to come to on a holiday weekend. I can't believe I never have been here before. When you walk in the aroma of fresh coffee beans fills the air. This is not only a coffee shop but that has some cute merch and other gifts and things to buy here. I was sooo excited to try their iced latte marshmallow called the Georgie. But I was then disappointed because it was wayyy too sweet for my liking. If I come back next I will probably just get a reg iced latte. I really wanted to give this place five stars but I felt rushed while there was no one in back of me on line. One of the people working here asked what I wanted like as soon as I walked in. I was reading the menu and felt that the person was a bit not too nice to me. But there was another person there and they seemed a bit nicer. I know everyone has off days.. so maybe it was just that?. If you are in the area I would highly recommend this place for coffee and or if you want a chill place to sit and enjoy the drinks, pastries. read more

Such a cute, lovely little place! This was my mother's go-to when she lived on 72nd Street. My first time here. I had a Mint Mocha Latte and tiny turkey nibbles for lunch. My mother had coffee and a cheese danish. Service was so pleasant and cheerful! I love the vibe here. Cozy and smelling wonderfully of coffee. Yum! They have fun little things for sale and cozy seating. Good selection is small, but there's something for everyone. The mint mocha latte was TDF. Would definitely return. Only heard about Java Girl recently after living in the UES for a while. Upon arrival I was surprised at how cute and intimate it was. I can totally see myself doing some work here - wifi was solid and it had the hustle/bustle coffee shop ambient sounds without being too loud. There were a few tables available as well as a section selling coffee beans and other goods. I asked staff for their recommendations but they kinda brushed me off in a mean way? I was the only customer at that point and he still sounded annoyed. Eventually went for one of their signature drinks, The Georgie. While the marshmellow flavors were very prominent, the espresso flavors were really watered down even with less ice and 2 shots. And I agree with another Yelper that the coffee kinda tasted burnt? Or had a related aftertaste. Wondering if I order the wrong thing because it was really popular on a weekday morning. read more

The inside of this cafe is super cute and very bohemian! We came inside, and were met with the intoxicating smell of a sweet, flavored coffee. There are different types of beans for sale by the entrance, which might have been the source of the aroma. We got a matcha latte and iced latte with oat milk and settled down to do some work by the window. My coffee itself could have been a little stronger (it was more milky than other lattes I've had), but I would love to come back for the ambiance itself! read more

Quaint neighborhood coffee shop, however it has some issues. The good: lattes/espresso drinks and beans taste pretty good. Cute decor from the owner's travels. Unfortunately, the customer service is quite poor: there was an older lady behind the counter who is very rude and curt. When there was no line, I asked if someone could help me weigh and grind some beans (the sign said only employees can handle the equipment) and she acted like it was the biggest hassle. She ground half the beans I wanted and then passed along the rest of the beans to a younger man working there too. Strange vibes from the staff but the beans weren't bad. read more

This is a little independent coffee shop that is welcoming and has a cool vibe. Good prices and is cozy and fun. All kinds of coffee and all kinds of treats. You can't have a cell phone, video calls, and you have to keep low voices. It's very zen like. It's tucked away and I loved that. There are are few chairs and tables outside for you to sit, have your coffee and your bakery treat! Of course when you step outside, you hear NYC at its finest! read more

I agree with the lower ratings. The iced coffee ($4.25) here is so bad that it's crazy that they are allowed to serve such low quality beverages. I literally thought I was drinking coffee grounds added into ice water. It had no spirit and the bitterness was not balanced which made me think that the iced coffee was stale. I actually experience that staleness at home when I don't finish my cold brew concentrate fast enough. This should not be happening at a place of business. Also, I've notice a pattern of subpar and mediocre iced coffee stores specifically in the Upper East Side. The only place that is passable and decently drinkable would be Oslo Coffee. The workers also don't like they want to be there and I also did not receive a receipt. I will not be coming back again. They also have some giftstore in there selling souvenirs like t shirts and such. Please focus on making good drinks before branching out. read more

Java Girl is really cool and I could spend a fortune on gifts in here. What's even better is that the coffee is really delicious and reasonably priced. I had the Tanzania Medium Roast and it was so so good. You serve yourself. It is warm inside so it didn't matter that it wasn't as hot as I prefer. They are excellent about Covid regulations requiring I show my vaccination and my picture identification. I heard the owner tell one customer his mask was not fully covering his face. He appeared to be a regular. I enjoyed my seat at a cute table. It's a long walk to get here so I was happy to rest and enjoy my coffee. Did I mention a small is $2.50? I'm highly recommending you visit here. It's a beautiful coffee shop with much more to offer than just coffee. It's a beautiful experience including the music playing while you relax! Edit to Original Review: After the owner left a couple things came up. I was cleaning off my garbage from the table and noticed a plastic wrap with food crumbs in it left from the previous customer that sat at the table. Plus the employee that relieved the owner wasn't making customers wear masks when they entered. I thought that was their policy but I guess not. I'm lowering it from my original Five Stars to Four. The BEST vanilla latte I've ever had in my life. Java girl is a staple of the UES, and true coffee fans love it. I've seen reviews of the staff not being friendly, but my experience has always been great. I have seen some Karen's do annoying stuff while ordering (being on their phone while ordering, bringing their dog in when the door clearly says no dogs inside, etc) so I'm feeling like it's probably the case that some of these complainers were just not great customers anyway. It's not the delicious coffee, the bakery treats, the cozy/slightly exotic decor, or the coffee beans for sale that makes a visit here such a respite. It's the very serious ban on unnecessary noise. No cell phone conversations, no video chats, nothing allowed inside except inside voices. It's a tiny shop, and voices carry. Sooo peaceful. read more

I ordered a decaf honey vanilla latte with oat milk and it's probably one of the yuckiest drinks I've ever had. Granted, it sat out for a bit because I was pulled away by work but I've come back to plenty of lukewarm coffees that did not make me want to gag. The employee who serve me was pretty rude. Had a nice decaf iced americano here. It's always difficult to find really flavorful decaf, but this one hit the spot. I noticed they had a lot of different bags of loose beans for sale and some baked goods, although I didn't try either this time. read more

Order rating: 2 large specialty lattes: tasted BAD Costumer service rating: Terrible: lady and guy: they just seemed rude as if they are doing you a favor. Place rating: Tiny with not much elbow room. Lady was really micro-managing were we could and couldn't sit. Last I checked we are in America. Don't tell your paying customers where they can't sit in a place of public business. Java Girl has been my go-to for catching up over coffee in the neighborhood. If you don't want that sleek chain feel at Gregory's, Joe or Starbucks, Java Girl is your best bet. It feels like a little coffee shop in a small town; slightly kitschy, tiny, and mismatched. It's a cozy spot to read the paper, chat with a friend, and unwind. Drink and snack prices are reasonable, and 50 cents to a dollar lower than most of the other coffeeshops in the area. The drip coffee is reliably good, while the mocha is often lacking in both espresso and chocolate power. There are gift items of various sorts to peruse and purchase for yourself or as a gift for a coffee/tea lover in your life, plus assorted other cutesy home items. My only gripe is that all drinks are served in paper cups. I accept that it's often too busy to get a seat quickly, and that some of the seats aren't super comfy. I accept that nondairy milks cost extra because it's a standard practice in coffee shops all across the country. (But, you know, maybe lower it to .25 cent extra instead? Or have one in the milk and sugar station? Or not charge if it's just a splash?) I do not, however, accept that there's no choice about the disposable cups -- hot drinks just taste better in a mug, and holding a mug feels so much better than holding a paper cup. read more

There are many good quality coffee & tea options along with delicious lunch options and tasty treats. The bonus for me was the great gifts I picked up for friends and family for the holidays. Very nice place. So romantic and cozy. They do have the best pastries. So yummy and delicious. I like coming by early in the morning and grab a nice cup of coffee with an apple turnover. Incredibly delicious. My only complaint: this group of men sitting in front of the coffee shop smoking. I wanted to use the chair they have outside but was unable to sit and enjoy my coffee because of all the cigarette smoke that blew in my face. Not the best place to sit and relax outside especially with children for that reason. read more

Went to try a iced latte and pastry and I was neither disappointed nor satisfied with what I got. The iced latte was just okay and did taste a little burnt. Of course it gave me a boost of energy, as it should, but I didn't really enjoy drinking it. I got a pear turnover and that was reaaaally good. I've never had a pear pastry that I genuinely enjoyed but this was light, fluffy , sweet and tasted fresh. Definitely recommend! read more

Came here to meet up with a friend who had a doctor's appointment around the corner. While I waited for her to arrive, I was able to chat with Linda, (who I assume is the owner) who also greeted me once I entered and offered help as I marveled at all the beans. We talked about all of her flavored bean options. Five minutes later I'm buying 3 bags of coffee! Which, even after adding an iced coffee to the bill, I thought was very inexpensive. Linda was absolutely lovely as was the barista behind the counter and very informative. I got a coconut almond iced coffee that was DELICIOUS. I live nowhere near here but I will absolutely be back when I'm in the area, which is every week. Can't wait! read more

Wow, they totally just lost three customers. Two of my friends and I are pretty regular at this cafe, and every time the service is terrible. They are NEVER friendly to us. But we take it since we like the atmosphere of the cozy cafe. I always get a chai since I don't drink coffee, which is made from a concentrate so not good either. But this time we sat and were working on our laptops on a Friday afternoon (as pretty much everyone does in a coffee shop in the 21st century). We all bought drinks and I bought an extra granola bar bc they have no good healthy breakfast food options-- btw this granola bar was $3. One of the staff came up to us and instructed us to all squish into one small table "because we were together." Each table only fits one laptop. And we should be able to sit where we would want. When we explained that we were working and needed the space she said (very rudely) "Well we are cafe for people to hang out." When we then explained that if we needed to move we have to leave, since we wouldn't have place for our laptops so we could work, she just walked away. I found myself rather disappointed with this coffee/sandwich shop. First of all, it attempts to evoke a relaxed, homey feeling what with the random chairs and pillows and magazines, but instead gives off a messy and unkempt vibe. The people behind the counter are a bit odd too; I did not order a drink with my sandwich and the cashier kept on asking me if I was sure...of course I'm sure. I don't know..it's a minor detail but it annoyed the hell out of me. Secondly, after my friend and I ordered, it took forever for the sandwiches to come. One was a pressed sandwich, but there are plenty of other establishments who can do it in a quarter of the time, and the place wasn't even crowded. No matter. My sandwich with swiss and a bunch of vegetables and balsamic dressing on wheat bread was good though boring at times. My friend's turkey, mozarella, and pesto sandwich, girlled, was much better. The bathroom is another curiosity. The door, despite the presence of a hook, does not close all the way, leaving a large crack open for all customers to watch one piss. Furthermore, there is a huge wooden box of sorts hovering over the sink, making it next to impossible for one to reach their hands under, turn on the sink, and wash his hands with the soap coming from the empty sauce bottle up top.
