My experience here was nothing special. The staff were pretty blah verging on rude and not very helpful. The coffee shop side wasn't bad and they had a delicious gluten free berry muffin. They also had a gluten free corn muffin. They aren't really kept separate or wrapped up but I was fine. The gfree are in red wrappers if you're looking. The ice cream side wasn't quite as accommodating. They had an ice cream with Heath bars crushed up in it. I asked if it was gfree and the server asked me if Heath bars were gfree. Shouldn't he know that? They had a sign saying all of their bases were gfree and to ask about add-ins so I thought he would know. I ended up googling it and Heath bars are in fact gluten free (and the ice cream was good). We also had a coconut based strawberry and rocky road. We ordered them in a banana split which was pretty expensive ($12-ish) but it was decent value for what we got. It was massive (too big even for two people) and just covered in oodles of whipped cream, with cherries, nuts and fudge. It wasn't very pretty but the taste was good. The ice cream side is super crowded with gag gifts but the back area isn't too crowded to sit and have your ice cream. I think most people take it to go in a cone. read more

I got a smoothie here and it was super good and nutritious. It wasnt oversized and packed with sugar. It was 100% real fruit and a normal 12 oz serving size. There is a bit of booth seating out front on the patio which is really nice for a warm summer day. read more

Simply great homemade ice cream and very good coffee. Ice cream is really where it's at in my opinion (I'm not a coffee addict, but dark chocolate on the other hand...). Wonderful use of dark chocolate chips in many flavors, and delicious ribbons of caramel as well. Waffle cones are also delicious and worth the extra $0.40 or whatever. Have had a few flavors and wish they had a local establishment in So CA so I could try more. Long line does move quickly, and there is plenty of cow-paraphernalia to keep you occupied while waiting. Really didn't enjoy much here. The atmosphere is cool but that's about it. Ice cream is decent, but not worth the cost. Place was dirty, expensive and portion sizes are small at best. My recommendation? Go to your local grocery store, buy a 2 quart carton of Tillamook ice cream and enjoy probably 20 scoops for less than it costs for 2 spoon size scoops here. Not worth the hype. First off you walk in and there's a line out the door for ice cream! Never seen such a thing. It makes you curious and think , is this some special type of ice-cream? It's not. So why didn't the workers say that in the first place when I told them I wanted? Why did they communicate about what I wanted to each other but not do anything about it? Why yell at me to tell me I needed to order by you -- when you already know what I wanted? Why wait to tell me that for 5 minutes?! Probably the worst customer service. If you want to be able to choose from any of the flavors, I would suggest to come at least 3 hours prior to close. We showed up about 30 minutes before close, with the line still very long, which was fine. We thought the flavors on the board would be what was available, but upon getting to the front to order, only about 5 flavors were available. My sister was told to "look around at the flavors open" which spanned several feet and needing to walk back and forth to see. They also told us they weren't making milkshakes due to "time constraints".... but the person behind us was told he would get a milkshake. Inconsistent. We went on Sunday and it was ok. The blondie was pretty good but the light roast drip coffee was old and tasted a little burnt. Went back today and it was all terrible. Nobody there seemed to know how to make a drink, they stuck their hands INSIDE the cups while passing them between each other. While waiting in line I watched the man scooping the ice cream just putting his full head in the dipping cabinet with no hair net or anything on. We walked in wanting to try their ice cream since it came highly recommended. I thought I would look at the menu on the coffee side. The girl behind that counter was just annoyed that I was there. She was very rude and made me feel so unwelcome I was ready to walk out the door. Then I went to the other side where the ice cream was and the guy behind that counter was nice and helpful. Wow, where do I start? So much to say. I really want to give this place 5 stars because the ice cream is homemade and delicious but after 3 visits the past two weeks in July 2015, I simply cant. Whomever owns Java Cow should take note of this review. You are losing a lot of business because your shop is not run properly. In three separate visits over two weeks (one Saturday night and two weekdays) we waited on line a total of 1 hour and 27 minutes!! that's an average of 29 minutes per visit!! There is no reason for this. The kids serving work pretty hard and are friendly, although a few times the female server jumped on her cell phone and walked away from the counter both nights. Last night alone, a Wednesday night, we waited almost 40 minutes and observed 12 people leave the line due to the wait. also, the floor and tables were absolutely filthy, disgusting, hard to want to eat there. Why is the barrista on the coffee side standing and waiting doing nothing most of the time, he could have come over to help. not a surprise it is filthy, no one there to clean up. also, last night they ran out of vanilla!! Really? no vanilla? and both last night and last week they ran out of Sammi Dee's. Not sure if there was more in the back but no matter, the workers could not leave the line for fear of bedlum. I hope you take this to heart because if someone opened another ice cream store in town, people will not return to the cow. Owner of the Cow: Here is all you need to do: hire two minimum wage kids to work from 6-9PM to help scoop, give sample and you will not lose ANY customers due to the wait or mess, and you will also have someone to clean up. Along with the variety of ice cream, they had extensive coffee and tea options too. They also have a little souvenir section with lots of items for purchase that was fun to browse.
