I inherited this dentist and luckily never had to deal with him till recently using only hygienist care. This creep is arrogant, insists you need to do dental care on dental issues whether you agree or not. His website states he is very caring and great with patients with dental pain issues. I can't more STRONLY disagree. He will arrogantly ignore your comments about tooth sensitivity after being blocked for a procedure. Even worse ... when he comes in to "review" your teeth with the hygienist He will treat you like an "artichoke" in the chair. He will only advise the hygienist working on your teeth for him... what your dental needs are. So immensely disrespectful. I must add I am a licensed Veterinarian for the last 40 yrs. Legally... any medical professional can only advise and suggest care needed. As long as they document their record.. they are safe in caring for you as their dentist ... if you choose to wait till you want to move forward. Beware of this creep. Sadly... when I met him about 10yrs ago... in my gut... I knew he was vacuous and not my dentist. The hygienist was great for years... but ... she didn't care how I felt either... so done with her too. Having spoken now with plenty of people... I know my impressions are not alone.. certainly there will be this dentist supporters. But I as a medical professional (still licensed though retired)... want my care to be as gentle and caring as I was as a practicing DVM. This creep is pretty awful. Dr. Baldwin is extremely professional and appears to be very knowledgeable in his craft. For those who are afraid of dentists...this is the go-to guy. He's very gentle, goes out of his way to answer all of your questions to your satisfaction, and ensures you're comfortable. Parking is easy, they're on time (rare for Tahoe), and Dr. Baldwin is an artist who is committed to your health and appearance. I'm 65, so I've been around long enough and in enough cities to have some good dentists and some almost callous and dishonest dentists. Dr. Baldwin stands out among the best dentists ever. TLDR; I was a first time patient for a cleaning and they tried to remove a tooth from the perfectly healthy mouth they had just cleaned.... then overcharged me. I received service at Dr. Baldwin's office over the summer and have since had endless billing and customer service issues. (1) They were not transparent about accepting/not accepting dental insurance - they gave off the impression of being in-network when they were not. When I asked about this, they coached me on how to ask to get a real answer in the future, versus the misleading answer I was given. I'm sorry... this is not my error; this is theirs for deliberately misleading me. (2) They billed me $437 total, which is 2x the costs of my dentist in San Francisco. My insurance, which has always covered 100% of SF costs, covered $221 which left me with a huge bill. I'm a student, so you can see why I've been digging into this. (3) When I have called to speak with someone who has the authority to discuss revisions to my bill (sounds like only Dr Baldwin himself), I have never received a call back from him as promised. We are going on half a year now. (4) Today, they sent me the bill, again, and I saw that they wrote off $43.20, or 20%, as a "professional courtesy." I received no explanation as to how they arrived at that number. My bill is still $173. My contention is around the fact that their services are massively overpriced to begin with, and misleading customers to believe insurance would cover the service. I really hate to resort to posting a terrible review, but that seems like the only way to get a callback and legitimate dialogue going. As for the service itself, my hygienist did a decent job with the cleaning. That being said, there were two major red flags I should have held them accountable to in hindsight: (1) Once they were done with my cleaning, they literally tried to remove my tooth because their software told them to. This is truly bizarre, considering they were commenting on how healthy my teeth and gums were a minute prior (I've had one cavity in my entire life).... extremely concerning that they didn't have the basic logic to question why someone with a perfectly healthy mouth would need their tooth removed. I was like "I'm sorry, did you just say extraction? What are you talking about?" Thank god I was paying attention. (2) Another hygienist in the office was overhead for my entire service speaking loudly and un-professionally with another patient about drug and alcohol abuse by her friend, which was super off-putting. No privacy whatsoever. I know they are limited options in the mountains, but personally, my recommendation is to drive to Reno or Sac and go get yourself more affordable and professional service. read more

I was on vacation when I had sudden tooth pain. Did a quick search and basically landed with Dr. Baldwin and just prayed he can help. I can't tell you how impressed I was with his professionalism, demeanor, and skill. There is a general sense that dentists are not the most upright individuals and Dr. Baldwin must have been set on breaking that perception because I'm a convert now. I'm just sad I don't live in the area and can't bring my entire family to see him. He's certainly impressed me with his gentle hands and wonderful bedside manners. No doubt he's a treasure to the community, I only wonder why there are 22 reviews that are positive that are showing up as not recommended. That's very strange as I read them and everyone should. All in all, thank you for making time to see me such last minute, and I wish Dr Baldwin much success! Thoroughly impressed with this practice. Dr. Baldwin squeezed me in on short notice on my first visit and i'm so glad to have discovered his practice. With dentistry, no one ever wants to take chances. It is no wonder there are so many referrals in the area as my visit was warm and accommodating from the first phone call thru the entire experience. I recently moved to Truckee and had been avoiding searching for a dentist. Finally found this practice and can't say enough good things about them. The staff is friendly and efficient, the hygienist was thorough yet thoughtful -frequently checking to make sure I was doing ok. The dentist was quick, friendly and professional. When a dental practice is sold, the new dentist purchases the assets only, which include equipment and the current patient list, and sometimes takes over the lease from the former dentist, but does not take on (and rightly so) any of the liabilities of the former dentist, including for his work or promises. As a person with a very sensitive dental history, having a dentist that has a great heart is just as important to me as having someone that is great at dentistry. I have been through sooooo many dentists in my lifetime that I almost decided to just stop going to the dentist altogether. (Kidding, but not really. As we all know, that is not possible.) So, when I found Dr. Baldwin I was not going to let him go - even if it meant driving a distance to see him. He has all the feel good stuff - kindness, consideration, gentle approach, etc. but he's also an amazing dentist. He gave me several options when tackling my tricky dental situation, strategized with me on all the considerations with each option and then got me there, step by step. I wish I had the nerve to leave a negative review for Dr. Reid, but since I'm not that sort of person, I never did. So here's my positive review of Dr. Baldwin who purchased this practice from The dental con artist, Dr Reid....who specialized in Truth decay, unbeknownst to the unsuspecting Dr. Baldwin, and all of the patients. I moved here from Redding, and I met Dr. Reid through church of all places. Last year, I planned on not returning to this practice or the church because of what Dr. Reid did to me, but I did return after Dr. Baldwin took over and wow was I surprised. I've now had two visits and each time I feel better about who I am as person, a feel safe in the dental chair once again, and I feel secure that I'm not being told I need work done that I don't need, and minor work which I do need is no longer going undiagnosed (seriously, it seems Dr. Reid only wanted to do implants, even when not medically necessary). I'm so grateful we have a dentist who truly cares about the patients well being, including our right to autonomy. I am in the helping profession, hold a masters degree, and abide by a code of ethics. The dental code of ethics tells us the patient should always have their say in what procedures they receive. My prior experience was one where I was conned and manipulated into things I didn't want or need, BUT this is not the case with Dr. BALDWIN! He is a breath of fresh air. AND his staff is clearly following suit. Dr. Reid told me he guaranteed his work for life, this is also unethical as I have since discovered that the dental board does not allow a dentist to guarantee anything for life. In my profession we concur situations like this are only the tip of the iceberg. I imagine there are many disgruntled patients of Dr. Reid's. I would encourage any of those patients who read this review to discuss their concerns not only with the Baldwin's, but with the dental board, and maybe even with the police (which is what I have done). So thank you so much Dr. Baldwin for deciding to move you and your family and your practice to our little slice of the world. I'm certain there will be so many more smiling and happy people here as a result of your competence, professionalism, and genuine care for your patients well being. Dr.Baldwin and his wife Traci are the most kind hearted people I've ever met. Dr.Baldwin truly took care of me and my teeth. He is helping fix some issues a previous dentist left and I've never been more grateful. Traci is very understanding of issues and extremely knowledgeable. Dr. Baldwin is advertising that he has taken on the practice of Dr. Reid, but despite him having the same office, the same phone number, and still calling it "Tahoe Dental Artistry," he hasn't actually done that. I had a problem with a ceramic inlay of Dr. Reid's that had fallen out, despite it being represented as a "lifetime" repair (and priced to match). I called Dr. Reid and told the receptionist what had happened; she told me, "Dr. Reid has retired and Dr. Baldwin has acquired the practice, so your appointment will be with him. We have seen a lot of problems with Dr. Reid's work and we're taking care of it. Don't worry, we will take good care of you." I drove two hours to get there and back, but when I arrived and filled out all the paperwork, before even looking at my mouth, Dr. Baldwin told me that he was not standing behind Dr. Reid's work in any way, but rather would charge me the full rate for the repair, and it would be up to me to try to get compensation from Dr. Reid if I could -- but that it would be a waste of time because Dr. Reid was refusing to take responsibility for such cases. My expectation was that because they had said that they had acquired the practice and were taking care of any issues with Dr. Reid's work, that meant they would stand behind the inlay that had fallen out, if it was due to a defect. I felt that I had been misled by their representations and left without ever seeing a dental chair. In my opinion, they are not honest in their representations, so I would not be their client. read more

Well, if you consider that my family has been patients for over 6 years, we live in the Bay Area and have now planned vacations and Tahoe visits around our Dental needs then that should be a good indication. Yes, this may sound nuts but my two teenage boys, wife and I love his honest individualized care and approach. Do we also LOVE the snow -Yes! It's super hard to find Dentists like this and we have many options where we live. So if you by chance are a local and live in Truckee your town just got more amazing because of Dr. Baldwin. I personally love all the cool tech and advance procedures he has. I mean who doesn't love lasers! And they can now clean your teeth and heal your gums. I used to be the kid that hated Dentists visit but now as an adult I find myself desiring to have that feeling where your teeth look and feel amazing.
