Excellent care. We live in the Bay Area and drive to Truckee for appointments. Should be a five star plus.

If you're someone who has dental anxiety, or you've put off going to the dentist for years because…read moreyou're scared, embarrassed, or worried about being judged, this review is for you. I had excellent dental care growing up until I was about 14, but I also had a traumatic experience as a child when I flipped over my bike, knocked several teeth out, and had to be strapped into a chair while a dentist worked on them. That experience stayed with me. After my parents divorced, going to the dentist stopped being a priority, and despite brushing my teeth every day, I avoided dental visits for years. Eventually, I started having tooth pain and assumed I had one bad tooth. It turned out I needed two root canals and multiple fillings. To say I was terrified would be an understatement. One of the biggest fears about returning to the dentist after a long time is the feeling that you'll be judged. Dr. French completely erased that fear. She has been nothing but kind, compassionate, and genuinely caring from day one. She's the type of person who instantly makes you feel comfortable, and honestly, she's just an incredibly cool person. The hygienists and the rest of the staff are just as wonderful. Every single person in the office is warm, welcoming, and makes you feel like they genuinely care about you. The office itself is beautiful and has such a calming atmosphere. Then there's the fear of pain. I can honestly say I experienced virtually none. Dr. French referred me to Dr. Baines at San Jose Endodontics for my root canals, and I couldn't have asked for a better referral. Both root canals were completely painless. They prescribed ibuprofen afterward, and I never even needed it. Back at Willow Glen Dental, I was also genuinely impressed by how much they've invested in technology. It's not just a beautiful office--it feels like they've made a real commitment to giving patients the best experience possible. After my root canals, they digitally scanned my teeth, designed my crowns, and milled them right there in the office. I took about an hour to an hour-and-a-half break, came back, and had both permanent crowns placed that same day. No temporary crowns. No waiting weeks. As someone who hadn't been to the dentist in years, I had no idea dentistry had come this far, and it made the entire process incredibly convenient. The same was true for my fillings and every other procedure I've had. Throughout every appointment, the team made sure I was comfortable, answered every question, and never rushed me. Yesterday I finished the restorative portion of my treatment plan after about a year and a half of care. Dr. French joked, "Last round!" and then laughed that I was probably tired of seeing them. I surprised myself with my response: "Honestly... I used to have really bad dental anxiety, and now I don't." And I truly meant it. That's one of the greatest gifts this office has given me. They didn't just fix my teeth--they completely changed how I feel about going to the dentist. I never thought I'd be someone who could walk into a dental appointment feeling relaxed, but that's exactly how I feel now. I've already recommended Willow Glen Dental and Dr. French to several friends, and I'll continue recommending them to anyone who asks. (Just don't book Dr. French too solid--I still need my appointments! ) As long as I live in the Bay Area, this is where I'll be coming for my dental care. Dr. French is nothing short of amazing. I don't know what kind of magic she works, but she's incredible. Thank you, Dr. French, Dr. Baines, and the entire Willow Glen Dental team for giving me back not only my smile, but my confidence and peace of mind. 10/10. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

I waited no more than five minutes before being called in by the dental hygienist. She struck up great conversation and made me feel very comfortable as she cleaned my teeth. The facility is brand new, very clean, and very well run. If you're looking for a new dentist, look no further than Willow Glen Dental!

Flawless front office & smooth logistics The scheduling team is always friendly, scheduling is never an issue, and billing has never been a problem. It's one of those rare offices where everything just works seamlessly, every time. Outstanding hygienists (shoutout to Kayla!) But for my two year-old son, it was his first time ever seeing a dental chair. Doctor Scholer's office is a friendly kind loving place where our family has gone for dental care for well over 10 years. Today we had the opportunity to bring our two year-old so that he could get acclimated to the experience and I have to say, our two-year-old does not warm up to people very quickly. He was friends with everyone in Doctor Scholer's office from the minute we walked in the door! From our favorite reception peeps to our favorite dental hygienist (she sees our whole family even granny) to Doctor Scholer himself. Our son was saying hi and given high-fives and just enjoying his whole time at the dentist today! AMAZING! We plan on taking him to a few more appointments to acclimate him to the experience, but I'm sure after today it will be a lot easier to get a two year-old to brush his teeth. -that toy chest and red toothbrush sealed the deal! Thanks so much to Doctor Scholer and his team for all they do and being so supportive to our family over the years. I can't recommend Dr. Jeff Scholers practice enough!!

This review is long overdue. I waited until my situation was resolved before writing this because I…read morewanted to be able to share my experience as accurately and factually as possible. I was quoted approximately $7,000 for orthodontic treatment and paid $4,000 upfront directly to Smile Theory Dental. I paid $1,000 using my FSA and financed the remaining $3,000 through Sunbit. Regardless of the payment methods used, the office received the full $4,000 upfront toward my treatment. My concerns began after reviewing my dental insurance claim and noticing billing discrepancies that did not make sense to me. I raised those concerns with the office and ultimately decided I was not comfortable proceeding with treatment. I canceled my upcoming appointment before my orthodontic treatment began. I never received my aligners, no orthodontic appliances were placed, and I did not proceed with orthodontic treatment. Despite treatment not having begun, an orthodontic claim had already been submitted to my insurance. What followed took MONTHS to resolve from the time I first raised concerns about the billing. Throughout that time, I repeatedly had to follow up with the office myself for answers, updates, and clarification. There were periods where I was left without a clear resolution, despite continuing to reach out. For a situation involving thousands of dollars and my orthodontic insurance benefits, I found the overall communication, follow-through, and handling of my concerns extremely unprofessional. One of my biggest concerns involved a letter the office sent to my insurance. The letter stated that I was seeking orthodontic treatment with another provider. I had never told the office that I was seeking care elsewhere. When I questioned why this statement had been made, I was later told in writing that stating I was seeking care elsewhere was a "standard" way to facilitate the reinstatement of my benefits. Regardless of why the office chose to use that language, it did not reflect what I had actually communicated to them, and I found that extremely concerning. There was also confusion regarding how my payments were characterized during the resolution process. The office had received $4,000 upfront toward my treatment: $1,000 through my FSA and $3,000 funded through Sunbit financing. In subsequent correspondence, however, the office emphasized that I had paid the office $1,000 "directly" and that the other $3,000 had been paid through a third-party financing company. From my perspective as the patient, the office had received the full $4,000 toward my treatment regardless of how those funds were sourced. My interactions with the office manager, Christine, throughout this process were frustrating and, in my experience, handled unprofessionally. I continually had to advocate for myself and follow up while also communicating separately with my insurance company and Sunbit in an effort to get everything resolved. I expected substantially better communication, transparency, and follow-through from a healthcare provider. Ultimately, after continued follow-up and escalation, Sunbit canceled my $3,000 financing agreement and refunded the payments I had made toward it. My insurance claim was also reversed. The dental office refunded $500 of the $1,000 I had paid through my FSA but retained the remaining $500 as its cancellation fee. I understand that my treatment agreement contained a $500 cancellation fee. However, considering that I never proceeded with orthodontic treatment and the amount of time and effort it took me over several months to resolve the billing, financing, and insurance issues, I personally believe the appropriate thing for the office to have done would have been to waive that fee and return the remaining $500 as well. My strongest advice to anyone considering treatment here is to CHECK YOUR INSURANCE CLAIMS AND BENEFITS YOURSELF. My own concerns began because I reviewed my insurance claim and questioned discrepancies I saw. If your provider is in-network, review your claims and EOBs carefully and confirm directly with your insurance company that the amounts you are being charged are consistent with your benefits and the provider's contracted rates. Keep copies of your treatment estimates, payment records, claims, EOBs, and communications with the office. Ask questions when something does not add up. I can only speak to my own experience with this office. Based on the communication I received, the months it took to resolve my concerns, the insurance documentation issue, and the way the situation was handled overall, I found my experience extremely unprofessional. I would not personally return to Smile Theory Dental or recommend this office for orthodontic treatment.

In March, I made an appointment for May 28th as a first time client. Shortly after scheduling, I received a text asking if I'd be interested in an opening sooner to which I replied yes. I provided my availability and stated I was flexible and could come most afternoons. I received a reply shortly after asking if I'd like to come the next day for a morning appt. Um no. I had already clearly stated I could do AFTERNOONS. Two weeks later I get a call and then a text asking if I'd like to be added to the "ASAP list". I thought I already was?! I was contacted AGAIN a few days later asking about my availability. How many times do I have to spell out I can come in the afternoons?! By this point, they're too much and I ask that they take me off the list. It's too much communication. May 27th comes along and I realize I've received no communication about my appointment on the 28th. I text them to find out they canceled my appointment. I NEVER told them to cancel my appointment. I was really hoping to have a good dentist 5 minutes from my house but no such luck. I was not interested in rescheduling as I completely lost trust in this office.
