I've had more than 20 appointments at Smile Theory over the past 1.5 years, so I've had plenty of time to observe how the practice operates--and why I wish I'd gone elsewhere. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of trusting them with extensive dental work, and I regret it deeply. On the surface, Smile Theory appears professional and high-quality, but my experience was anything but. There were warning signs along the way, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt--my mistake. One major issue was with their office manager, Christine. Smile Theory quoted me an insurance coverage higher than the rates they had already negotiated with my insurer. I discovered the discrepancy only after the fact, by contacting my insurance company directly. I ended up paying Smile Theory around $1,500 more as a result of a contractual agreement that they had omitted from their quote. For another procedure, Smile Theory claimed the insurer "wasn't responding." I later learned they hadn't even contacted them until my treatment window--and my eligibility--had expired. I was left paying the entire balance. I have written documentation for both of these issues. I spent a lot of time uncovering their dishonest and fraudulent way of doing business. It was both frustrating and disheartening to be scammed. There were also several problems with my actual dental treatment. Vinni Singh (the dentist) often dismissed my concerns and did not take accountability for issues with my dental work. Appointments frequently started late and felt rushed, and the results of my treatments were disappointing. She was unskilled with my treatment and it shows. I felt trapped because I had prepaid, so walking away mid-course wasn't an option. I was stuck with subpar care for a year and a half. Additionally, the staff constantly upsold in-house products. When a botched procedure earned me a "courtesy" bottle of mouthwash that they insisted I use to "help" with my treatment. Instead, it badly stained my teeth brown. I found out from one of their hygienist that the staining was happening to other patients as well. The dentist refused to take responsibility and instead blamed me (it was common for her to gaslight). Bottom line: In my experience Smile Theory put revenue ahead of transparency, craftsmanship, and patient care. If you value ethical billing and meticulous dentistry, keep looking. I had my first appointment here a few days ago. I haven't been to a dentist in such a long time because of mental health issues. I was dreading going and even thought about cancelling but decided to push through. I cannot thank them enough for putting me into so much ease, especially the dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth! She did not judge me and was so patient and kind!! The dentist was also so helpful/informative in letting me know what problems I had with my bite. She guided me into the steps I needed to go through in order to have a healthy but also beautiful smile! We recently moved to San Jose and I searched on Yelp to help me find a new dentist. I came across Smiletheory, read their reviews, was impressed and decided to call in to schedule an appointment for my son. I first spoke to Leanna, she was very kind, welcoming and professional. My son was complaining about his tooth, and luckily Leanna was able to squeeze him in for an appointment the following day. During our appt we met Dr. Singh. She too, was very welcoming and it was her priority to make sure we were comfortable, especially my 10-year-old son. Upon completion of the exam, Dr. Singh took her time to thoroughly explain the cause of my son's tooth pain and provided me with several options for treatment. I really appreciate that she didn't rush and made sure all my questions were answered before I made a decision. Since my son's tooth was bothering him, the decision was made to move forward with the treatment, and thankfully Dr. Singh was able to treat him that same day! I'm grateful to finally meet a Dentist that is not only good at what she does, but also someone whom, truly at heart, is caring and empathetic - a rare find! Lastly, I want to note that reception area and exam room was spacious and exceptionally clean. And the large windows that let in all the natural lighting was a huge plus! The customer service is unmatched and the vibe is unlike any other dental offices I've seen! If you're new to the area or simply looking for a new dentist, give this place a try! Terrible support staff. All they do is push you to get Invisalign. They don't notify you regarding appointments until very late and it's really hard to reschedule. I used to go there as it was close by but the experience has degraded with every year. Tomorrow I'm going to my last appointment to avoid a junk fee they are trying to apply to reschedule. read more

My experience at Smiletheory was much better than I expected. As a new patient at this clinic, I had a very smooth experience at Smiletheory. Dr. Singh and her staff were super friendly from the beginning of the visit to the end, very accommodating as they were able to fit in a last minute appointment for me at my convenience, and the service provided was highly professional, thorough, and detailed. The staff in particular made me feel very comfortable. From the get go before even visiting the clinic, the receptionists were polite in their correspondence and due to a slight hiccup on my end I had to request a change in my appointment day and time. No problem for the team at Smiletheory! They were understanding and went above and beyond to accomodate according to my convenience as early as possible. Never have I seen such efficiency and customer care at other dental clinics. During my visit and cleaning, the staff was very knowledgeable and took extreme care in doing their job precisely. The modern, chic feel and look of the clinic was definitely something new for me and it felt like I was entering a new and futuristic clinic not many else seem to have in the area. This environment contributed to how calm and at ease I felt throughout my visit and I can't stress enough how important that is as a new patient. Finding a good dentist is like trying to find a good , comfortable pair of shoes that just works for you. Ok, so that might just be a weird analogy. Anywho, what I am trying to say is Dr. Singh and her staff team are amazing at what they do! So amazing, in fact, that I recommended my husband to move from his childhood dentist to go see her! I have personally met several of her team members already such as MJ, Christine is so nice, and Thi (among others names I cannot recall right now). They're all professional and personable. Dr. Singh not only knows her dental knowledge but she truly cares about your teeth in terms of prevention. She will give you options in terms of your treatment and does not try to rush you into making a decision on the spot. They are the worst. They are rude and condescending and tell you you have cavities when you don't !! There is always a fee you have to pay after your insurance covers it all ! They harass you on the daily to make an appointment. They were very disrespectful to my daughter and treated her like a child. I wasn't a fan of this place. I'm disappointed to see so many 5* reviews across so many platforms that it makes me think they ask people to take down negative reviews, which is just shady. Let me summarize my experience visiting SmileTheory in pros and cons. Pros: - the staff was really nice! - love the technology that they have and use for taking photos and models of teeth Cons: - the dental cleaning wasn't great. It felt rushed and done sloppily. I had their coco floss (which I'm definitely not a fan of to begin with) stuck between my teeth and picked at it for the rest of the day. - the dentist recommended too many procedures, and seemed to be interested in making an extra buck on unnecessary procedures. Also recommended a bunch of random products to buy at their office which makes me feel like this place is all about selling stuff (they tried to make me buy the same products that my husband purchased during his visit so I feel like they're standard recommendations they push on everyone). I canceled my future bookings and am now seeking a new dentist. I visit my dentist regularly and was recommended a bunch of stuff that I hadn't been asked by any other dentist until I switched over to SmileTheory. My favorite dentist that I've been to. I don't know how they do it, but everyone knows my name, and takes great care. The equipment is modern, and they have 3d mouth scanning, a nice software for seeing the history of x-rays, water picks for cleaning and they measure gum health. Previous dentists of mine have either under or over treated me. Not here, their approach is perfect. They even asked me what my goals for my teeth were, and treat me accordingly. As good as it gets! Had a wonderful experience at Smiletheory, right from the friendly staff to the modern office and the high tech machines. I'm a new patient here and I liked how streamlined the onboarding experience was. No waiting in the office trying to fill out paperwork in the middle of the work day sitting on an uncomfortable chair. When I first requested an appointment online, I was sent a couple of digital forms which I happily filled out at home sipping on my khombucha. The visit itself was very smooth except for the drive there in 100 degree SJ heat! Good thing they had effective air conditioning. From all my past experiences with other dentists, the offices are usually pretty run down, old, probably passed on from generations, possibly make-shift (horror) movie sets, and often shared between multiple dentists from the same family! (In one instance my dentist was swapped with her husband at the last minute, which didn't help my nerves!) But Smiletheory feels like a new era of dentistry with its modern office and digital workflows. When you first walk in, you might mistake it for a luxury hotel spa! It's a very contemporary office, super clean, almost new space. It could probably double up as a spa if they add lavendar fragrance in the air. Within a few minutes of arriving, I was introduced to MJ who showed me the office and to my room. In all my years going to different doctors and dentists, the new patient introduction was less talk, more interrogation: about not only my own health, but my family's health & disease history, my lifestyle habits and food choices (read mistakes), etc. But with MJ it felt like a real conversation with a friend. We spoke about my goals (of having a Hollywood smile as they call it) and other concerns right from trying to avoid any cavities to keeping my teeth white. Then I had my X-rays taken with like-new machines and appliances. I met Dr. Singh who went over my X-rays and addressed my concerns. Compared to other dentists, the conversation was very comprehensive and easy to follow. Her explanation of complex scenarios regarding my wisdom teeth was simple yet detailed, with a few analogies to real life examples. In the past, these talks with dentists have unfortunately been very rushed, but that wasn't the case with Dr Singh. For example, one of my previous dentists simply gave me a referral card to a dental surgeon for my wisdom teeth extraction - without much explanation or counselling or advise. But at Smiletheory, Dr. Singh went over the reasons for and against the surgery, her recommendations, and suggested time-frames for it. Finally it was time for my regular cleaning, and Ms T did that very well. She's very polite and looks quite harmless, but oh boy the cleaning was pretty heavy duty and thorough, as it should be! I remember the cleaning being less painful than at other dentists'. Again, following the theme of the visit, it didn't feel rushed at all. All in all I had a heartwarming experience, and I realized that a visit to the dentist doesn't have to be defined by nervousness or anxiety, but rather by one that exudes confidence, motivation and the simple feeling of happiness. read more

I was visiting family in the area and had an old filling break. I went to Smiletheory upon recommendation from my cousin, and it turned out that I needed a crown. At first I thought that meant I was going to be uncomfortable for a while longer while my crown got created, but Dr. Singh informed me that they create crowns on-site using some advanced technology machine. This review is long overdue from my side. Want to highly recommend Dr Vinni Singh for the amazing treatment she gave us. My mom had a severe tooth infection and was literally crying with pain. With a long weekend coming up Dr Singh accommodated a late evening slot and did an xray and inspection and found that tooth need to be extracted immediately to prevent infection. She again helped get a slot from her schedule very next day and very professionally tackled the case for my mom and gave her meds post-treatment. To expedite the entire process to treat the pain and prevent any further severe infection right before a long weekend where she herself was supposed to be out is a sign of a very caring doctor. She even gave her staff specific instructions for follow-up post treatment and we got phone call to followup on my moms health. So another thumbs up to her caring staff too who made us pretty comfortable under worrying conditions. read more
