Disappointing Experience We hired Jared's Movers for a local move in Santa Barbara after getting quotes from three different companies. Jared's estimate was the lowest, but I was skeptical when he quoted just 4-5 hours for the move with a three-man crew, especially since the other companies estimated 6-7 hours for the same scope. I voiced my concerns, and he agreed to revise the estimate to 6 hours to be more realistic since I emphasized that I had a strict budget, and 6 hours was the maximum I could spend. To help stay within that limit, I told him I'd handle all the kitchen and artwork packing myself--tasks he originally planned to include. He agreed this would reduce the total time needed. On moving day, the team worked efficiently, and Jared even remarked, "See, I told you it would go quickly. I don't know what those other movers were thinking." Yet when the move was finished, he claimed the job took longer than the 6-hour estimate, despite the reduced scope. He charged my card for the overage without my consent, and when I disputed it, he refused to honor the agreed estimate. It was clear at that point he had underestimated the job just to win the business. To make matters worse, we later realized a side table was missing. After multiple follow-up calls (which he promised to return and didn't), we finally received a call from another team member who looked into it for us and found the table--broken and hidden under a blanket in the back of the truck. He offered a reimbursement based on a similar table he found online, but it was only $130--significantly less than what our original piece cost. I accepted the reimbursement just to be done with the ordeal. I was at least somewhat pleased that he was honest about finding the broken table. In hindsight, I regret tipping the crew as generously as I did. Between the inaccurate estimate, the surprise overcharge, the damaged furniture, and poor post-move communication, this was a disappointing experience I would not recommend to others. read more

I am so thankful for Jared and his team. We were in a bind because the mover we had previously booked ended up canceling on us after the delivery window was scheduled to have completed. I am over 400 miles away and had no way to help our daughter move, I called Jared and he was willing to move her with less than 12 hours notice. Despite me not being there personally, they did a stellar job packing everything well. The furniture was carefully wrapped up in multiple layers of paper and moving wrap ensuring nothing would get scratched during the move. However, I'm not sure if they ran out of wrapping materials at the end because one of my chairs wasn't fully wrapped, and the table legs weren't wrapped as well. This review details the following service, and may not apply to what you're contracting Jared's to do. I traveled from Vegas to Santa Barbara to purchase a piano. I engaged Jared's to securely pack and load the piano onto a 5x9 U-haul trailer with a built-in ramp. I provided 6 Uhaul moving blankets as well as a huge plastic bag and a roll of 18"-wide cling wrap. I also provided four ratcheting straps, each with a 500lb load capacity. Punctuality Two movers scheduled to arrive at 10 am. They arrive 30 mins early. This is neither good nor bad, but since we had not arrived to transact the purchases, yet, the movers were left to wait for us until the scheduled time. Packing The movers elected not to use the huge plastic wrap we had brought to protect the piano finish from the moving blankets, stating it would collect moisture (just to note, we would be unwrapping piano in bone-dry Las Vegas in around 6 hours). They also used only 3 of the 6 U-haul moving blankets that we brought. As I'll detail later, they should have used the additional blankets. They did wrap the piano satisfactorily with our cling wrap. The bench was also blanketed and cling-wrapped. The Move The piano was dollied down a doorway threshold and up the ramp of the trailer with no issues. Note, besides the 6-inch threshold, there were no other steps or floors to negotiate. Securing to the trailer The movers pointed out that the piano casters needed to be supported and raised off the trailer bed to prevent damage. Fair enough. They used a section of 2x4 I had brought, as well as some foam packing material they found laying around the owner's house. Piano was safely lifted off the trailer floor. They strapped down the piano using my 4 ratchet straps, but as I'll explain, they should have paid some attention to the strapping process to protect the piano. Rather than strategically using a number of convenient rings and hook points all around this well-designed U-haul trailer, they hooked the ratchet end of all four straps onto the same trailer post support. This made all four ratchet mechanisms lay one atop the other, and all these metal mechanisms pressed into one small area on the edge of the piano. As you can imagine, multiple straps, under tension, pulling and stressing atop a piece of metal, this led to a ratchet to wear away through one of the blankets and dig into the piano gloss finish. The aftermath I've attached pictures of the damage. This would have been entirely avoidable had the mover strapped the piano in a way that kept the ratchet metal from contacting the piano or the mover had used the two remaining moving blankets we provided. When I sent photos of the damage to the finish, I was told that this happened because I made them use a different type of ratchet strap than to what they are accustomed. That implies they did not know about securing pianos using generic ratchet straps. Having never strapped down a piano, myself, but armed with a decent amount of experience with trailering vehicles and furniture, I wish I had double-checked their work and re-strapped the piano. Unfortunately, I went on faith in their care and caution. In summary, for $200+$20 tip, this job required 30 minutes of actual labor for 2 guys, but they did arrive 30 minutes ahead of schedule. No heavy lifting up or down flights of stairs, and I provided nearly all the packing materials. What should have been a slam dunk was marred by their lack of care. Again, your experience may differ if they are undertaking a run-of-the-mill move. read more

My husband Matt B. and I bought a house last year, and since we're planning to stay here for much or all of the rest of our lives, we decided to bring Matt's childhood piano from Santa Barbara to LA. I got on Google and looked up "santa barbara piano mover" and found Jared's Yelp page. He was exactly the guy I was looking for. I called like the week before Christmas and was able to set up a move date for later in the week. Jared was super easy to deal with. He answered all my questions and had ready availability. He even coordinated things with my father-in-law, who had to let him in to get the piano in Santa Barbara. We scheduled the move for a Friday, but Jared called to reschedule because it was set to storm that day--bad for traffic, and bad for pianos. He didn't delay the move, but instead pushed it up to that Wednesday. He didn't promise an arrival time, but he set off as promised at 9 in the morning, did the pick-up in Santa Barbara and came straight to LA, getting in around noon. He and his helper were warm and professional, and they had the piano set up in an hour. They also moved a couple pieces of furniture for us while they were at it, charging nothing above the extra time, which was minimal on both ends. The move wasn't cheap--$325 for the piano, $130 an hour per hour of drive time, plus $40 for fuel/truck fees and a credit card charge added up to around $900--but it was nothing compared to the cost of a grand piano. That grand piano, by the way, is a Steinway bought in the '90s from Jared's father--I guess that was the family business for a while, and Matt's family has been in Santa Barbara since the '70s. This discovery, made by Jared and my father-in-law, filled me with warm fuzzies, and I was even happier that we found Jared. If you're looking to move a piano (or, you know, anything less complicated than a piano, which is pretty much anything) in or out of Santa Barbara, I can't recommend him enough. read more

He has a 3-hour minimum and the clock starts when they leave their business and ends when they return to their shop. This means you are paying for 30 or so minutes for their commute time. The attitude was not so friendly either. I suggest reaching out to other well-rated movers. We did and we got a much better price and with a friendly attitude. read more

We purchased a solid oak china cabinet from a private party in Solvang which we needed to have delivered to our condo also in Solvang. There being no local moving companies in the S.Y. Valley, I looked for companies in both Santa Maria and Santa Barbara and left messages at 2 different companies. I read "YELP" reviews for Jared's Moving Services and called Jared. He answered the phone right away and gets an "A" rating just for that! (I never got callbacks from the other 2 companies!) Here's the bottom line: I would use Jared again in a flash! Feel free to trust him with everything you need! Jared actually moved us this summer but I waited to review until I had unpacked most of my boxes so I could tell you that everything came through okay - it DID!! YAY. The full the story: I have moved all over the country and several times overseas for ex-patriate assignments. I have moved to the house next door, across seas and between states. I've often had moves paid for, so it was a leap of faith to hire a small local business rather than have a big professional organization. My husband and I didn't make a selection on prices. We wanted the job well done. We hired Jared -who was in there with the rest of the group - because he came to our house more than once to truly understand what we needed and seemed to care about our situation. The situation was this; we needed to be out of the house by 5 pm Wednesday (NOT negotiable, unfortunately) and we couldn't get into the new house until 10 am Thursday. ALSO, we had to be done moving by the end of Thursday because we were leaving on a trip first thing Friday morning. Since the move wasn't far from one house to the next, normally a moving company will use two trucks with a team at each place loading and unloading the trucks. It's very efficient! But that wasn't going to work because our stuff had to sit somewhere over night. Oh yea, and I wanted him to come a day early to help me pack anything we hadn't managed to pack until then. He had no idea if he was going to have to pack most of the house or 3 boxes. Jared impressed me with his care to my request that timelines be respected fully and came up with several creative ideas to achieve that. As for customer service . . .I mean, who is flexible like that with letting me decide last minute what I want his team to pack? Moving week came and Jared and his team arrived on time, ready and rearing to go! We got the move done on time AS requested. My stuff made it to the other side (as I've now confirmed) in the same condition as it left. The 2 or 3 tiny pieces of damage were immediately addressed and paid for by him - not after I had to fill in a bunch of paperwork but because he gave us a credit right away. (and don't let ANYONE kid you that you won't get damage in a move, they're blowing smoke up your skirt, it's a part of life). He even helped us set some stuff up that he didn't expect to, figuring out some tricky door situations & item assemblies for us. The guys were so kind and so respectful, they felt like family after the first few hours! There was not a request I made that wasn't addressed promptly and with respect. And then came the punch line; we had an estimate but what would it cost in the end? He could have come in at his quote and called it good. But he was honest; because of his advice on how to prepare, we ended up using less of his time/materials than we had planned. In the end, my bill was a healthy amount lower than what we had expected. I had a great experience with Jared's Moving Services this afternoon! The workmen arrived on time and were pleasant, helpful, and punctual. They moved an office for me and took care to wrap all of the leather and wood furniture so that nothing got scratched or dented. All of the furniture and artwork were well protected with moving blankets secured by tape, and were unwrapped on the other end of the move in perfect condition. Well... this could have been a 1 star and could have been a 5 star. But, alas, I'll give them 3. I was excited to have found movers who seemed to give a $#!&. They were in the "decent" price range and over estimated the cost so that I wouldn't be surprised (just in case). Jared estimated 6 hours but said with what I have it would likely be closer to 4.5-5 hours. I'd only been living in this little house for a year and had everything boxed, labeled, organized and color coded. Jared came to do an estimate, said he'd bring the "big truck" just in case, and we scheduled the move. As move date got closer, I explained that the large truck wouldn't be able to come into my complex (because of the pavers on the driveway) and so if he brought the large truck they'd just have to walk a little farther with my stuff. He said that it wouldn't be a problem to bring the smaller truck & they'd make it work. I emphasized that I didn't want to make 2 trips. Three guys arrived in the morning. I showed them around, explained the situation and then they went to work. Well... 2 of them went to work. One of them was sloth-like, he was texting, he was carrying down one small thing at a time (one-handed), and I'm not sure it was possible to walk any slower. The other was talking on the phone half of the time. Not sure who is chatting on the phone while working, but he was - distracted and every time I asked a question or offered direction, he had to tell the person to hold on, take out his ear buds, and then have me repeat what I said. The third guy (who was hustling the whole time) was playing tetris in the truck. He explained that he wasn't sure that everything would fit, but that he would load all of the furniture and big stuff first, and boxes last. That way, if it all didn't fit, it would be easier for me to move boxes (which would fit in my car) versus furniture. When they were all loaded up (which took WAY longer than it should have), I was already furious as their lackadaisical manner. The guy in the truck put all the boxes in and left 4-5 large pieces out (that would never fit in my car). When I asked about it he said "well - I just couldn't make it all fit. We can unload and come back...". Um. No thanks. You already spent at least 45-60 minutes more than it should have taken to load the darned truck, I'm not paying you to drag your feet twice. The owner (Jared) called me (like I said, I was furious). Made excuses as to why the guys were slow, why they took so long, etc. He said he'd give me a discount to come back the next day and move the rest. I may have lost it on him (sorry - stress of moving, frustration with the guys and lack of sleep...). I told him I was pissed, that his guys were ridiculous, that I wasn't paying more for his guys to fix their issues and to just forget it - I was done with them and wanted them done and gone. At the new house, the guys were unloading carefully, which I appreciated, (I'm sure they got a call from the boss) and then Jared and his wife showed up with the rest of my things (which were left in the carport of the old house). They hustled it out of their truck and into my new garage. And then Jared stepped in to help the guys get some unloading done and get more moved in. In the end, it took 6+ hours. To move a 700 sq ft house. And Jared actually said "See? We came in right at the 6 hours I quoted you!". Like that was some great accomplishment. How long would it have taken if I hadn't blown up at him on the phone, with he and his wife stepping in? So here's the reason for the number of stars. *Would have been 1 star if Jared and his wife hadn't shown up with the rest of my stuff and hustled. *Would have been 5 stars if the guys hadn't been so lackadaisical, hadn't been texting and talking on their phones. Overall, if you're not expecting super hardworking and efficient movers, they'll be fine. Their pricing was mediocre, as was the service. If you're looking for top notch movers who will hustle, work hard, use caution and get it done quickly, pay the extra. In an already stressful time (moving!) it will be worth it. read more

I hired Jared's AWESOME local SB moving crew to help reorganize the storage space my cross-country movers just threw everything into. First a quick background: After waiting a month for our belongings to arrive from Atlanta, the movers arrived while I had to be out of town on business. The x-country company basically took a snow blower approach and filled up our 10x20 space with no logic or thought of us ever getting anything back out again. Enter Jared's team of Miles, Ryan, and Mike. They showed up on a Saturday morning as scheduled, on-time and ready to work. These guys laid blankets on the floor of the storage facility hallways to better protect our stuff! They gently and efficiently unpacked the nightmare I had been dreading to face. Once everything was back out, they allowed me to take all the pictures I needed for insurance claims against the damage / broken pieces the previous movers caused. Once all that was done, Jared's crew meticulously and thoughtfully re-placed each box, storage bin, and piece of furniture (some of our stuff is HEAVY solid oak or pecan) in a logical manner. They left us plenty of room to move in and out of the storage space and followed my instructions to the letter. These guys were patient, professional, and a JOY to work with. His response to my online request for a quote (and I detailed very specific aspects like each piece of furniture and exactly what I wanted to do...which including just hauling half to Goodwill) was literally "the price without calling and speaking with me is $10,000. Please call to discuss the move. Jared" The owner of the company actually wrote that reply. See the screenshot I took. Why the *insert your own word* would you even respond like that, let alone set your Yelp presence up to receive quote requests if you clearly can't receive and respond to quote requests like a grown adult. You're a business owner, act like one. Whether it was intended as a joke or not, it really turned me off. Jared, please disable quote requests from Yelp, and please grow up. I found someone to do what I needed for $200. Saved me $9,800. read more
