Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains along the Kaweah River, The Gateway…read moreRestaurant & Lodge was the perfect place to enjoy dinner after a memorable day exploring Sequoia National Park. With our large group of 7, we were seated outdoors, where we enjoyed spectacular views and the calming sounds of the Kaweah River. I had made a reservation earlier in the day, and the staff was very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Service remained attentive & pleasant thruout the evening. The hubs & I wanted to keep things light & healthy, so we shared serveral dishes, to sample more of the menu. We started with the jumbo shrimp cocktail and crab cakes, both of which were heavenly. The shrimp were fresh & sweet, pairing perfectly with the cocktail sauce. The escargot bourguignon was also enjoyable ~ the snails were fresh and not mushy like those I've had at some other restaurants, although I've tasted better versions elsewhere. The colossal snails were imported from France and prepared in the chef's special butter sauce. Next, we shared the Chinese chicken salad, which came in a generous portion. To finish, we shared a 12-oz New York steak with our daughter, and it was cooked perfectly medium-rare. She also added a cup of clam chowder soup, while my son ordered his own filet mignon steak, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, the food was decent for the price, but the real highlight was the relaxing atmosphere & beautiful river view. It was the perfect way to end an already wonderful day exploring the park.

As the years went on I was a little wary of giving them that recommendation since it's been so long since I've been there...but good to know it's still just as amazing 8 years later. They have updated the interiors and there is plenty of seating both inside and outside the sandwich shop. We opted to sit outside so that we could see the river (even though it was 90+ degrees...but in the shade it was a cool 85 degrees) Gourmet Green 5/5 turkey, creamy almond cilantro jalapeno spread (not spicy to me) kind of reminded me of the green goddess sauce, red onion, roasted red pepper, havarti and spinach. Everything just worked beautifully and it basically felt like eating a salad. Blue Cheese Potato Salad 4/5 I wanted this to be more blue cheesy, but it was still pretty tasty. Though when my bf tasted this, he said it was really blue cheesey so maybe I just want it to be way more intense tasting. So glad that this place is still here and that they still are super delicious :)

I've had over half a dozen different sandwiches and quesadillas at this establishment and it never disappoints. Always fresh and consistent not to mention world renowned. That tends to say all you need to know about a small town sandwich shop. A great spot on the river for your dining experience! Don't miss it! I'll see you there! Be on the lookout for their sandwich and other specials!! The only thing not to like here is that they're closed Sundays and Mondays. Clean Honest Food! True that!!!

We ordered the brisket, pork belly, Mac n cheese and chili beans. The brisket had good flavor, was tender and juicy but still needed bbq to give it that extra kick. The pork belly was okay but greasy in my opinion The Mac n cheese was inedible. It was literally buttered noodles with barely any flavor with cheese and oil floating at the bottom of the dish. The chili beans had amazing flavor but unfortunately the beans weren't cooked! They were still very chewy not cooked through all the way. I wanted to like this place so bad but unfortunately it fell flat.

I came to pick up my order, and I felt like they knew their customers. There's a couple seats inside but not sure if a lot of people actually dine in. Unfortunately, their ramen just left a lot to be desired. The chashu pork and broth are okay but felt like they needed more flavor. The egg was definitely overcooked. Being the only actual ramen place in Hanford, I get why people rate it higher. I'd just rather get my ramen fix when I visit socal or the bay.

Great tasting ramen!…read more My family and I made this place a pit-stop for dinner on a Sacramento to Los Angeles trip. Our original target was the Fresno location, but due to a GPS entry error, we ended up at their Clovis location! It was a little longer drive than usual, but still well-worth the drive. And besides, we were on a family long weekend break so who cares about distance... Our orders were quickly taken on the counter and we were off to find our table. A lot of places to choose from inside and outside seating was also available. And the place was nicely decorated and well-lit! Feels comfortable to dine inside! The menu was quite expansive. And you even have the choice of minor changes to the regular menu. I ordered an Oxtail Ramen...a first of this kind for me, so I just had to have it. And it passed with flying colors! Weird ingredient...but absolutely tasty! And at a really affordable price range! You just have to try our this place when you're in the area! You will love it!

Good amount of tables and seats. Simple, minimal decor and it was clean, from what I can remember. He got the Shoyu Ramen (#2) and I got the Spicy Miso Ramen (#4). We both agreed the broth wasn't as hot as we'd like and could use just a touch more flavor. Both were okay, but I preferred my broth more. I wish I paid attention to the fact that mine came with THIN noods though... I feel like I would've enjoyed my dish way more with thick noodles. To be honest, I should have done the build-your-own Ramen and selected everything I wanted myself... now I know. You live and you learn. The Wontons were good but we didn't eat much of it, as it came out the same time as the ramen. Once the ramen was served, our main focus was on that and that filled us up! Packed the rest to go. For this being our first time, it wasn't bad but it didn't wow us. If I'm being honest, so far-- the best Ramen we've ever had was in a small little shop we found while in Thailand back in March (yup, Thailand!). Unfair to this rating maybe? But-- every ramen I try will be compared to that now (sorry, it was THAT good). Until next time, which there will be a next time (just unsure how soon that will be)... they get a middle placement.

That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. I cannot recommend this place enough and look forward to bringing my family next!
