We told him what we wanted for the style and size. He tried to talk us out of the fence that we wanted and requested to go with another style of fence. The price he gave us was way overpriced! We had another Contractor give us an estimate. it was $2,500.00 less. We never got a written quote From this company and they couldn't provide us liability insurance either. I think it's pretty greedy to try and over charge customers and not get what you want as a customer. Homeowners beware! HIGH STANDARDS: Mariusz takes great pride in his work and the final results speak for themselves. My husband grew up in the construction industry so is quick to notice when contractors take shortcuts, cut corners or cover up errors. His assessment: "This guy knows what he's doing and doing it right." PROFESSIONAL: Mariusz and his crew were polite and courteous. No blaring radios as they worked, no yelling to one another, no cussing on the job. Not something you notice when it's missing but certainly notice when it's present. CONSIDERATE: My husband works second shift so gets up later than the average bear. The crew did less noisy work in the morning and louder work later on, so as not to impact his sleep schedule. THOROUGH: When there were points in the installation where he could have made assumptions and continued working, Mariusz stopped and rang the doorbell to check in with us e.g. did we want the end post to be on the side of the house or on the back of the house? The question covered something important to us that we didn't think to mention to him. Glad he stopped to ask. CUSTOMER CENTRIC: When I came out to look at the fence during the crew's lunch break (I was wondering where the shorter section was going to be placed) Mariusz promptly came out and asked if everything was OK. He demonstrated great concern for my satisfaction with the work thus far and sincerely wanted to deliver his best to make sure we were happy with the work. CLEANUP DONE RIGHT: Our old wooden fence left a lot of peeled paint debris behind as the crew removed section after section. Once the old fence was removed, they did a meticulous job cleaning up the lawn, leaving it looking better than when they started. Last March my partner, Corey, and I were living in Rockport, MA, but bought a house in Nashua, NH, and planned to move during May. The new house had no fence, and we have dogs. So we needed to have a fence installed before we moved in. Our friend referred us to Mariusz at Jan's Fence. We knew that Mariusz had done a great job with our friend's fence which has been beautiful and sturdy for a few years. It took forever for Mariusz to even return our call, but he finally did. We drove from Rockport to Nashua and met Mariusz so that he could measure the area. He was very nice, took the measurements, and told us that he'd contact us with an exact date for the installation. Corey and I did notice that Mariusz took no notes during our conversation except when he jotted down the measurements. He claimed to be super-busy so it made no sense to me that he wouldn't have taken notes about the dates, etc. Via e-mail, we agreed upon the second week of May, but then as that date drew very near, Mariusz contacted us and said that he was behind with his workload and asked whether he could install our fence during the third week of May. We were okay with that and reminded him that we really needed him to stick to his commitment of the third week of May because we were ready to move, starting new jobs in the Nashua area, and only were waiting for the fence installation in order to move. We made plans to move on the weekend after the third week of May but then received an e-mail from Mariusz indicating that he needed to meet us at the new house "to look at the area again." It was a great inconvenience (a 134-mile round-trip) for us, but Corey went to meet him again, and Mariusz pretty much just took the measurements again. Weird and stupid--a waste of his time and ours! During the third week of May, we couldn't reach Mariusz and blew up his phone(s). He finally called us back the day before we were supposed to move and said that he couldn't install the fence until the next week. I was furious but said very little about it to him. Who does business this way? At this point, I just wanted the fence installed and wanted to move into the new house. During the fourth week of May, Corey started his new job and drove two times from Rockport to the Nashua area. Corey obviously wouldn't have had to drive the extra 268 miles if we were able to move during the third week of May. Mariusz and his crew installed our fence during the fourth week of May, and we moved in that same weekend. The fence was and is great. His work quality isn't the issue. When we received the invoice for the fence, I simply used the IRS mileage rate and reduced his payment by the value of the two trips Corey had to make from Rockport to the Nashua area and heard nothing more from Mariusz. In my opinion, he should have offered us a discount since he was late with his promise of work completion. He did not offer a discount and never even apologized that he didn't live up to his commitment. So I took the discount myself. Last week the friend, who referred Mariusz to us, told me that he has had no contact with Mariusz since our fence was stalled but reached out to Mariusz to inquire about some new fence work. Mariusz simply replied with a text indicating, "I can't help you anymore." My friend replied, "Why? Are you out of business?" and has received no reply. I can only assume that Mariusz is treating my friend (who only tried to refer business to him) poorly because of Mariusz's experience working with us. Mariusz and his guys did a great job. He had to push our job back a week due to circumstances out of his control. He called me and sincerely apologized that he had to delay the project. Had Marius at my house for an estimate and explained to him I had a new puppy and asked how long for installation. He tells me it's a half days job and could be done in a few weeks. He emails me the contract and I sign it and send it back right away with a deposit check. Once he gets it he emails me and tells me installation will be done June. I emailed him and said that is not acceptable. You told me a few weeks not a few months. He then proceeds to send his people out to install the fence and gates within the time frame of a few weeks like he originally told me. The day his installers arrive he tells me his dad is coming with them as he is sick. When the poles were installed and cemented I had a question regarding the double gate poles. He called me with such an attitude that I was questioning the work of his workers that he said I was being disrespectful and he's been in business for 30 years. I have never been talked to by anyone the way he was talking to me. He then told me he was home with covid. My first thought was if he showed up wearing a mask when he came to give me an estimate maybe he wouldn't have gotten covid. He sent him an email after explaining how upset I was that he was so rude to me and all I was doing was asking him a few questions. Told him my husband passed away last year and this was the first time I have had to deal with hiring anyone for a project around me house and he certainly didn't make it a pleasant one. He then left me a message apologizing to me but there is no excuse for the way he the owner of a company should talk to a customer the way he did to me that day. It takes a lot for me to take time to write a bad review. I tried to get a quote from them back in July for a fence installation. They came out late. At this point, I only had a few minutes to discuss our fence needs before I had to leave for an appointment. He said he would give us a quote, then nothing. I tried calling and texting a couple times to no return. At that point, if they can't even call me back, I'm certainly not going to give them any money.
