For those who don't want…read moreto read a long form essay on the million ways they screwed me over, the summary is that we purchased a dress, including a $200 rush fee for the dress to be ready in June and a $200 fee for the dress to be lined. The dress came unlined approximately 6 weeks later than promised, and Mari Mi repeatedly never returned my calls. They promised in writing to reimburse me for the cost of putting the lining in (I was charged $400 from my seamstress for just the lining issue), but as of this posting they have not despite requests to do so. I went dress shopping in March for my September wedding, and purchased a ~$3500 dress with $200 rush fee and $200 lining fee. I was told the dress would be ready in mid June ( I don't recall the exact date). Mari Mi reached out once to confirm which panels I wanted lined. We agreed to line several panels in the bodice and hips, and they shared a photo of what exactly would be lined. On July 1st, I had not heard about my dress pickup so I called Mari Mi. I was told someone would call me back. No one did, so I called the next day. I was told someone would call me back in 30 minutes. No one did. I called a 3rd day in a row. At that time I was told the dress was late, still hadn't shipped, and I should make a pickup appt for the end of July. They could not tell me why the dress was late, nor did they offer to refund the $200 rush fee. I made a pickup appt for July 30th. Did they call me when my dress actually came in? Of course not. On July 30th I arrived to pick up my dress, and the dress was unlined in ~6 of the 8 panels we agreed to (depending on how you count the panels). I brought this up to the sales associate, who said she would reach out to her boss. It was honestly very upsetting as I already had a horrible experience with them, and when they finally delivered the dress it was so far from what we had agreed upon and I had very limited time to fix it. The dress has several see-through mesh areas including deep in the hips, and I would feel very exposed if I was getting married in it unlined. Genuinely, I would not be able to wear underwear as the side straps would be visible with the cutouts. At this point I went to their website and submitted a complaint. The owner offered to "pay" for the lining in alterations (though we had already paid for the lining when buying the dress.) The next day I went to my alterations appointment with my seamstress and explained the situation. They needed fabric from the dressmaker to line the bodice in the areas Mari Mi had failed to line, so they called Mari Mi. I could not hear the exact conversation, but the account from my seamstress was that Mari Mi only offered to line the bodice in the fabric from the skirt, which was simpler fabric that did not match the bodice as the bodice had a lace layer. My rockstar seamstress was luckily able to procure the correct bodice fabric on their own. My seamstress charged $400 for the lining to be put in after the fact as they had to buy fabric+shipping+labor, and I overheard that Mari Mi were being super rude to them about the cost. It was actually originally $500, but my seamstress gave a discount as a courtesy to Mari Mi. Again I had paid $200 to line the dress originally and Mari Mi did not check it when it arrived and handed me an unlined dress. It's not surprising to me that it would cost more to put in during alterations than when the dress was being made. Ultimately, if you want a bridal shop that will return your calls and deliver the dress you agreed to in the timeline you agreed to, consider going anywhere else. And again, as of this posting Mari Mi owes me $400 for lining (and arguably $200 for the rush fee) that they have not paid and instead have ignored my emails requesting to be reimbursed as they promised in writing to do.

When I checked in and filled out the bridal questionnaire, I forgot to tell her what designer I was most interested in. As we were browsing the dresses, I stopped her to let her know and she said she had already pulled a TON of dresses from that designer! It made me feel comfortable and confident that she knew the exact vibe I wanted to go for. Dresses in many different price ranges, and they are so respectful of your budget. While trying on dresses, she was extremely knowledgable about adjustments that were available for each gown (linings, sleeves, bustles, etc.). Different from many other bridal shops in Philly, my crew and I were able to browse the racks ourselves, and pick a few dresses to try on in addition to the ones Alicia pulled for me. The appointment was 90 minutes, so I really felt like I could take my time, have fun, and see which gown really spoke to me! When I got overwhelmed, Alicia was so helpful and made sure we slowed down - she even offered me chocolate and some words of encouragement! She really was the best, and I'm so happy I ended up getting my dress here. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend to all brides!

My consultant was very kind and helpful, but I would have liked seeing more dresses personally and my appointment felt slightly rushed, but I did love how we were able to make an appointment, as it is appointment-only, and I ended up having the whole shop to myself. Overall, I appreciated the aesthetic and cleanliness of the shop and liked that I was able to pick a budget that worked for me, but I didn't feel as though there was enough inventory for me to find the dress of my dreams.

I found Paris Tailors not too far from my home. Only 2 reviews...both 5 stars and very commending...sounded like a winner. I called and was told to bring the suit in to the shop. I found the place just as I expected a tailor shop to appear...small storefront...jalousie door with a bell...wood paneled walls...hanging garments and fabric...small dressing room...3-way mirror...elderly gentleman...tape measure hung over his shoulders. I was asked to try the suit on. The tailor and I determined that the jacket was just a bit tight around the waist, but fit well in the shoulders, sleeves, and length. "No problem", said the tailor. He carefully made a mark on the front of the jacket near the top button with his chalk. The pants are a good fit at the waist, but needed a hem and a bit of tailoring in the rear. The tailor pinned the pants to fit as I wore them and took a look into the mirror with me..."No problem." I suggested that the pants be slimmed or tapered around the lower leg...I said, "They're a little wide." The tailor shrugged. He's the expert. I trusted him. It was time to talk price. I've never been to a tailor. I am unfamiliar with the costs of such a service. The tailor took a long, thoughtful look at the suit now draped over his counter..."Eighty dollars." I hesitated to agree...I thought about it for 10 seconds...this suit was a gift...$80 out-of-pocket for a great-fitting, decent navy blue suit..."no problem"...I authorized the tailor to do the work...he issued me a ticket..."Will call you when ready". A week passed with no word from the tailor. I called the shop. I was greeted by a woman who placed me on a 5-minute hold...the tailor got on the line..."It's ready." I went to the shop and tried it on. I came out of the dressing room with the suit on and waited for some feedback about the fit from the tailor. The tailor was silent...he offered no opinion or further suggestions about the fit, so I figured that I was good to go...perhaps tailors just don't do that...I've never been to a tailor. I changed, paid the $80 cash and went on my way. I got home and examined more closely...I realized that the jacket was never touched...the original stitching was still there at the back-center seam and the side seams. This jacket was too tight in the waist by only about 1/2" - 1", and I simply didn't have the knowledge to notice while I was in the shop. I was confused about how this thing was supposed to fit...It was my first one...I was excited to have it. The pants fit better in the rear and the hem was the proper length, but as I suggested at my original visit, they were definitely in need of a taper. They looked silly almost covering my shoes...they had iron marks at the back of the waist near the center belt-loop...I was confused about my tailoring experience...I was afraid that I paid $80 for a hem. I noticed a sign at the Dry Cleaner near my office that said, "Expert Tailoring and Alterations". I brought my suit in. The lady tailor...the seamstress...explained that the pants need tapering and the jacket could stand to be let out a bit at the waist. She suggested that she tailor the pants to create a "slim-fit" that would allow the fit of the jacket to look proportionate to the rest of the suit. Her explanation was excellent and made sense to me...I agreed to allow her to do the work...she charged me $27.50 including a dry clean and instructed me to pay when I pick the suit up in three days. My blue suit now fits great! My regret is that I wasted my time and money by trusting Paris Tailors.

Not only is she remarkably skilled, she is also kind, generous, funny and clear about what is possible and what isn't. She will give it to you straight, but in a respectful and loving way. She is a master at giving her professional opinion in a way that is helpful, but not at all pushy, and managing the personalities in the room in order to center your voice and opinion. I went in to see Courtney for the first time in March 2020, just a few days before the world shut down and we all went into lockdown. My dress didn't need much -- a hemming and replacing of the buttons and button loops in the back of my dress. Courtney was great at communicating with me as my wedding was postponed from June 2020 to June 2021. When I went in to see her a year later, our world had changed and so had I. When I tried on my dress, I no longer felt comfortable or confident in my dress and so I embarked on a journey to find a new dress, literally THREE WEEKS before my wedding. Courtney was so kind and encouraging as I found a dress that fit me properly and made me happy while wearing it. She managed to accommodate my new dress fitting and alterations in TWO WEEKS and didn't even charge me a rush pricing. Because of her, I was able to wear a wedding dress that made me feel confident and beautiful. Then after my wedding, she fixed a snag in the neckline of my dress, ON THE HOUSE. I am so utterly thankful to have been able to work with Courtney. I honestly don't know what I would have done if I didn't have such an incredible seamstress on my side for my wedding. She is an incredible small business owner who knows what she is doing and is in demand because of it. Her labor is worth every damn cent and I wholeheartedly recommend her and her team. It felt like we had the studio to ourselves. It was very stress free and I chose a dress in an hour because of their amazing service. After ordering there were some delivery timeline concerns due to the manufacturer (still no problem to have my dress in time for event). The ladies worked overtime to assuage concerns, ensure swift delivery, and make sure I was happy and stress free. I can't recommend them enough.
