They should really change the name of this spot to Booty Blast Barre, because I mean srrrsiouly, it's a blast to the boot-ay. I've been twice -- once to the 'sports barre' class and once to a regular 'barre' class, both with Danielle, and I gotta say: "two thumbs up." Danielle is one of the owners and she's super passionate about the studio, Jersey City and her clients. She's also super pretty and fit (she was a Rockette, ya heard?!) which always helps for motivation. They ask your name and they remember your name. Sports barre was a combo: cardio & barre. Get that heart rate pumping and then tone it up in between. Barre was less cardio and your more traditional barre class, but so much sportier with weights, bands and Beyonce. Friends rave about the trampoline and dance classes, but I have yet to dabble. Both classes definitely left me energized, a little sore and happy with my efforts for the day. The studio is small, but fierce. The locker/changing area is a bit cramped, but I've never seen an issue as the class sizes aren't large. First class was about 12 people and second class was about 6. There is a shower for those who may be needing to clean it up before headed to work or out for the day, but it seems most people grab their jackets/bags/stuff from a locker and pop in and out. These days boutique workouts are about $22 a pop (the price of a Sports Barre workout), and I think it's right up there with the best of them! Enjoy!

I came in for a Yelp Fit Club event and completely fell for this place and its high energy Sports Barre class. Upon arriving I found myself in the hot seat (read: front of the room) but didn't let it deter me. I went in with an open mind and decided to do my best and get in a good workout. Let me tell you, it's been almost 2 days and I'm still feeling lingering soreness. Always the sign of a good sweat session. Parking is a nightmare so head to the garage over on Christopher Columbus. It's $10 for up to 2 hours. Although a small studio, there's still enough space to work without bumping into your neighbors. The music an energy are high and the instructor was incredibly high vibe. She kept me going even when I wanted to take a break. They also have a location in Edgewater and it's making me a little disappointed I didn't know about it earlier. I'd definitely have gone for classes. A single class is $22, which I think is a bit high, but I also think it's a good workout so six of one half a dozen of another...? They also offer class packs. This is definitely a class I'd take again if I were int he area.

Having taken each of their classes at least once I feel that I can now provide an accurate review of the Sports Barre. Let's just say I am absolutely hooked! I have walked past their studio countless times and let's be real have been too chicken to try them out, mostly because I have no rhythm to speak of and have the coordination of a crumbled piece of newspaper - ha! With the wedding around the corner I went for it and it may have been the best decision of my life. If you are a first timer I highly recommend that you start online first and sign up for a profile and pick your classes there, reason being that they are extremely popular and classes are almost always booked to capacity so if you walk in your chances of actually getting into a class are probably low. The online site is simple to navigate, you can read the description of all the classes and also manage your class schedule there and modify and edit as needed. Do keep in mind that if you do cancel 12 hours before your class is slated to start you will be charged a fee. Their studio is a bit small but they make it work. There is a small unisex dressing area with a coat rack, shower and lockers. They even have shampoos, blowdryers, lady things, deodorant, razors, hair ties and a tips if you need! Towel service is also included. Ok so onto the classes - they have 4 different Barre classes to choose from: Barre Naked, Sports Barre, Tramp Stamp and Dance Your A$$ Off. Barre Naked is bit more traditional, emphasizing more on stretching and toning with bar work and light weights. Sports Barre is broken up with spurts of cardio and strength training. Dance Your A$$ Off is similar to a Zumba class, lots of movement and music and dance. Tramp Stamp takes place mostly on a mini trampoline, a mixture of jumping and movements. These classes are no joke, who woulda known just a little pulsing could cause so main pain (in a good way). Again I want to emphasize that I have no rhythm and no coordination but had no problem at all keeping up with any of these classes - yes dance class included. The instructors do a great job of making each class fun and there is never any pressure to go outside of your comfort zone. The music is great and did I mention how fun each of these classes are? Midway through my very first class I was thinking to myself, "This is so fun!" Needless to say as soon as class ended I signed up for the unlimited classes. Enough said.

I LOVE everything about The Sports Barre. The owners Danielle and Jacey are lovely, welcoming, talented and fierce instructors. Their class methodology is on par with any of the NYC boutique studios. I have taken all their classes and all of them are invigorating, smartly constructed and the teachers always offer modifications and offer amazing adjustments. If you want a kick ass HIIT-like class check out Sports Barre. The trampoline class is ridiculously fun and challenging and the classic Naked Barre class is really creative. The dance class is perfect for anyone! I cancelled my gym membership to come here exclusively. I'm so happy it's across the street from me and I truly look forward to working out now it's been so fun and the results physically and emotionally are amazing!

They even have cool challenges every so often to win some fun gear...like this sweet beach bag!

Ask the Community - Jane DO - Jersey City Studio

Which class is best for beginners to start with?

Barre Naked is definitely the least cardio-intense class and pretty great for beginnings. If you are looking for something with more cardio, though, I'd say Sports Barre is great, too.

I started with the Solido class which was amazing and targeted glutes and abs. It literally flew by and I was sweating! Next I tried Savage, which rotated between 4 minutes of different weight training and sculpting moves and then 4 minutes of treadmill work. Their treadmills have handy guides for athletic levels and intensity and the incline and speed are easily adjusted. I liked this class and according to my Apple Watch, burned a TON of calories here, although I do not recommend doing this class fasted as jumping back and forth and the starting and stopping from moves and sprints made me quite dizzy at times. This class was on the first floor. Finally, I tried a Tonic class, which was very weights focused and had active breaks in between the working portions. This class was on the lower level of the studio. Each class has an instructional video ahead of time and moves demoed on the screens the entire time with a timer for the moves and timers to show your progress in the class which I really appreciated. The music in every class I took was always super fun and a mix of EDM, hip hop and Latin music. They also offer a spin class I believe called Stride and a boxing class called Jab The studio itself is amazing with lots of neon lights to set the mood, plants, tons of reflective details in the locker rooms and on the lockers and gorgeous seating in the lobby. The lobby has a bar with tea, coffee, some waters and pre packaged protein drinks. I do wish they had more of a selection of pre and post workout choices but I'm sure those will come! They let me know soon they'll be offering alcohol as well and free wine if you take a class on Friday! You get a hand towel for class and if you want to use their showers, they provide towels. The bathrooms are gorgeous and have amenities provided. Some of the best studio showers I've been in with plenty of room to hang your toiletries. The staff was super polite and outgoing and everything was clean and tidy. They even have a clothing shop with unique and cute workout sets from a Latino owned brand. I can't say good things enough about this studio and hope they expand their class offerings!
