TLDR: great, reasonably priced Middle Eastern food. Just go there. When the little woman and I get out of town I have a habit of searching out MIddle Eastern food since we love it and nothing really worthwhile is near us. On a recent trip to the Chicago area I found Jamrah. Unfortunately we were only wanting a little something rather than a full meal so only got sandwiches. I had the falafel and the wife had the Shawarama and I took home some baklava for a treat later. We've eaten at some nice Mid-Eastern restaurants around the western US and aside from the fact that is wasn't a proper sit-down type restaurant but more of a fast food type of store, we both felt Jamrah was right up there with the best of them and prices were more than reasonable. I talked with one of the co-owners, a lovely lady whose name I unfortunately didn't get, about the type of Mid East food she serves, it's Syrian, and generally had a nice chat with her. She came out to our table to ask how we were enjoying the food just like you may have experienced and a fancy-schmancy high end restaurant. He also mentioned that they make their own falafel which I felt was in the top 3 of my favorite I've tasted. One in Oak Park, IL and another in Metro Denver. The place felt classy despite it's humble appearance. The next time we go toward the city, we'll make sure we're hungry when we arrive there. Oh and I'm enjoying the baklava as I write this! Shish Tawook - I don't know what it is supposed to taste like - but I can tell you - how Jamrah makes it - I like it! I also have an over the top addiction to their rice. Doesn't matter which one - I love em. And - this business is extremely community oriented. For that alone - I love and support them. read more

This place is outstanding. We live in Chicago and get all sorts of authentic middle eastern and Mediterranean cuisine and Jamrah could hold its own against the best. My husband and I are at Jamrah for the first time on Saturday and it has become one of our favorite places ever! The food is so flavorful, fresh, and affordable and the staff? AMAZING! This place was great, and I'll definitely be returning. The staff was super welcoming and helpful. I ordered the shish tawook with jerusalem salad and rice. It was all delicious and plentiful. This place was great. I spoke with a gentleman named Ammar. He may actually be the owner. He was such a nice and approachable guy. I hope they do well. They're place was clean and had educational material posters all over the walls, for people who haven't enjoyed middle eastern cuisine and are unfamiliar with it. Also they stuffed the shawarma in the pita, which is such a great idea. I have never had it that way. Usually dinners just place the shawarma on the pita, similar to a gyro. read more

Update!! 4/10/17 Be cautious if you have any concerns with your order! Customer service is great unless - you have a problem. The customer is NOT always (ever!) right. Despite ordering several times and coming in person even more, leaving a previously glowing review, and being addressed on a first name basis by the owners (read: we give them a lot of business), was just treated horribly and questioned when an order was messed up. Placed order for delivery, however it apparently showed as takeout in their system, unbeknownst to me. Called when it hadn't arrived and the owner stated that it would be at the house "any second". 12 minutes later, no order. Called back and was told my order was sitting there...for take out. When I asked why I was told it was almost here, was informed that they didn't check to see who's order was delivered (even though I told him my name). The owner then began to raise his voice when I asked for a refund, and stated "No one talks to me this way!" I was just looking for some Shawarma. Not interested in being yelled at for it by an angry man...and certainly not when I am the one paying you. Won't be returning, not because the food isn't good (it is), but because I'm fearful of the way I would be treated. Not a good look for a small business! read more

Dekalb really needed this restaurant. Excellent food and service. It's a nice alternative to Mediterranneo downtown if you're looking for falafel and baba, and my wife and I like this place better. They have a small but well-done menu. Better to do a few things well than a large bland menu. A nice price range, you could spend a few bucks on a sandwich for lunch or spend a little more on a platter for dinner. read more

I ate here last night with my sister and we weren't impressed. The portions were large, but the chicken shawarma was dry and not very flavorful. They had little cups of tzatziki sauce on a covered tray (nothing to keep it chilled - it tasted awful, spoiled) near all the utensils and napkins for people to grab as needed. The most tasty items were the rice and the lentil soup with the pita dipped in it. Prices were high given the fast food feel of the place and the low quality of the food. Won't be back. read more

I'm so glad that there's a delicious middle eastern restaurant so close to home, especially since becoming vegetarian! My boyfriend and I came here and ordered the vegetarian platter, 8 falafel, and a bowl of lentil soup. The vegetarian platter comes with baba ghanoush, hummus, two 'salads,' 3 falafel, and pita. We made little pita sandwiches with all of those ingredients and they were delicious. There was a different spice/herb content than I'm used to in falafel (maybe cinnamon or something similar?), but it was delicious. The lentil soup was great - I added a little salt but my boyfriend thought it was fine without. While the food was great, the service was really fantastic! The man behind the register (the owner?) was exceptionally friendly. He brought out our food and gave us a plastic spoon even though everything was clearly self-serve. He also came by and asked us how the food was after we'd had time to dig in. Overall, I'm very pleased and will definitely come again. Unfortunately, I'm going to be moving soon but I hope to eat here again whenever I visit the DeKalb area in the future. read more

Last night I decided to check out Jamrah based on the great reviews and boy were they right. This place did not dissapoint. Located right off the highway and easy to spot. Right off the bat I noticed how nicely decorated it was and super clean. It had a really cozy yet cool feeling to it. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The menu was self explanatory and had really great prices. I had the shawerma platter which was delicious and I highly recommend. So if your looking for a place to grab a quick bite for lunch or a sit down dinner with the family this is by far one of the best in town. read more

Something new and interesting in the quick eats scene. Everything I've had so far over several trips has been pretty good. Nothing revolutionary, but good. Everything tastes very fresh. Staff is super helpful in explaining what everything is and will give you a free sample to taste, as items on their menu might be unfamiliar to some. Beef and chicken and many different sides including hummus. It is in a strip mall, so nothing fancy, but they keep a clean and shiny place. A nice break from the burger and fries routine. It's always a bit scary but exciting to try something new. I told the owner I had no clue what to pick and he happily made a "special" sampler platter to introduce us.
