do not purchase from this company. first the arrival date is completely inaccurate that they tell you. considering it was 6 days after I was to receive it, I didn't need it any longer and had to purchase something else. when I reached out I was told a restocking fee and then they emailed and said they could stop it in transient and give me a refund which I agreed to. well guess what? product came yesterday and no refund. now I cannot get anyone to answer my emails. pay more or choose someone else. avoid this company like the plague. terrible! read more

I have really had great luck with JD. They have a great selection or products, especially oddball stuff for sailboats and not the plastic/cheap metal stuff that's so common now. Good quality bronze parts, great boat products for epoxy and fiberglass in their TotalBoat line with great results, etc. Haven't really had any problems and always a real person at their facility to answered my call when I had questions and not a call center somewhere else. Although I am currently, sadly, between boats, I have a need to complete a repair and refinishing task on a piece of outdoor furniture. JTD not only had everything in stock, there is tons of information on the site to help you choose what you need and how to use it. Don't get those cheap zinc screws from Home Despot - order bronze, which will last! With only one exception, everything I've ever looked for related to woodworking and wooden boats, they have it. I am a painting contractor and I ordered patching compound product from Jamestown Distributers as the manufacturer, Smith and Company does not take credit cards and was working on a time schedule for the homeowner. The failure to indicate that this product was back ordered by Jamestown Distributors in any communication is unacceptable. After 14 days, I attempted to contact the supervisor and left a message to the facts and asked for overnight shipping to expedite delivery and never received a return call. All in all, the time from ordering to delivery was 26 days. I recommend finding an alternative company or work with the manufacturer. read more

I've dealt with Jamestown for years. Always very helpful, always prompt. The line of Total products has also always been good to excellent. Only gripe is now over Total Fair. The compound works fine but comes without instructions relating to working time, solvent and the like. It seems they have become an internet only business within the past year or so. As a local, you can't even stop by and pick up an order, instead they have to ship the materials to you, which of course, you are charged for. There is also a haz mat fee tacked on as well. It is easier and cheaper to order from Amazon and get the materials you need for a lot less, no shipping fees, no haz mat fees, etc. It is still shipped from Jamestown Distributors in Bristol. I don't know why they just don't have a pickup counter at their location. I have used Total Boat products for years, and they are very good, that is the only reason I purchase them. (Paints, epoxy, etc.) I can only wonder if they are going to change their business policy and allow pickups at the store. Until then, shop at Amazon, save some money. read more

I placed an order over the phone to ensure that the parts I needed were in stock. I was told they were in stock and that they would be shipped the next day. After a week I called to confirm that the parts had been shipped, and was told that the parts were not in stock and the order would ship in a few weeks when the parts arrived in their warehouse. I am writing this review before I even received my products. What I do not like is the way they handle shipping. You complete your order and do not know shipping costs. They let you know once things are shipped. I needed an $8.00 item, need to by extra stuff to get to the $20.00 minimum order. Then when things are shipped I found out that shipping was $14.15 for a 3.5 pound package. If I had known the shipping cost I would not have ordered. So I bought $12.00 worth of stuff I did not need, but could use at some point, $14.15 shipping, spent $35.00 in total for a $8.00 item that weighted 2 ounces that I needed. I am not happy that their web site says this is the most effecient way to handle shipping cost and that they do not give you a chance once shipping costs are established to opt out from ordering. $14.00 shipping for $20.00,order!!! read more

Used Jamestown Distrib. 2 part penetrating epoxy on sanded ash oars. Only 15 minute working time till cook out. Very little penetration. More like a varnish finish. Sanded to bare wood again and this time with 50% acetone. Same result. Longer working time. Very disappointed. Now what to do with the rest of it? read more

When the associate finally got to me he apologized for the wait and was very polite and courteous. He got me my supplies a.s.a.p. and l was out the door. What l like about this place is that they only sell quality products. That's a big selling point. Later in the day I needed to return a few things. Takes forever. I cannot comment on the quality of what I ordered since: it is not here yet. I ordered supplies (biaxial tape) for my boat restoration project 2 weeks ago, via ground shipping (5 business days to my location). That was perfectly timed since I needed the supplies just then to continue with my work. There was no indication that it is back ordered or such. After a week I realized that i did not get a shipping confirmation and despite my thinking " well that cannot be that it is not out yet" I wrote an email inquiring if the product is on its way. When I did not get an answer to that I called and was annoyed to learn that "they are cutting it right now, so sorry, it will ship today!". Oh well, there is a week gone of using my boat right there. What really ticked me off is that not earlier than one additional WEEK after that I am getting an actual shipping label confirmation/tracking number for my order which apparently left the facility one week after I have been promised my order is on its way. Really? More than 3 weeks to receive a fairly standard item? I ordered stuff from China and it arrived much quicker! I suggest ordering now if you like to do some work on your boat this winter! When I needed another item, and to avoid another shipping charge, I asked them to add the item to the unshipped order and they told me they would. They shipped it anyways, even after assuring me that the item would be added to my unshipped order and now I am out an additional $11 for shipping what they promised me they would include with my other order. Extremely disappointed with this company - ordered a water distribution manifold for my boat on June 4, it's now August 26 and still don't have it. Supposed to be a four week delivery time. I have spoken with customer service NUMEROUS (10+) times, they are virtually no help. The customer service supervisor was slightly helpful, she did not come out and say it - but I suspect the order for my part was not completely processed and therefore never sent to the manufacturer for shipment - don't know if it is Jamestown's fault or the manufacturer - either way - after all my phone calls to them they should have spent the miniscule amount of time it takes to follow up on it! I ordered a 2 oz pigment from them and found their price to be very competitive, so I ordered it. When i went to check out the shipping was not calculated because they said they want to give me the best shipping rate they could, and it would be added when shipped. I did it anyway because they said they take the cost of shipping and add $2 and thats what they charge for shipping. THIS IS A ALL OUT LIE. after it shipped and it was too late to cancel they finally disclosed their shipping charge. Again this is a 2 ounce package, I was charged $12 for shipping on a light as a feather product that only cost about $8. Actual shipping on this item was $3.44 from Fed Ex, meaning with their suppored $2 shipping markup this should have been less than $6 shipping. This company is completely unethical and basically a fraud. when I finally got the package it was packed fair but didn't contain anything other than generic non-labeled bottle, no instruction, no directions, no receipt, nothing. They waited almost 3 days to complete and ship the order putting the delivery date well over the promised shipping time. To sum this vendor up they simply suck and are crooked. Our small business has been buying from Jamestown for over 50 years. They not only had good products but a knowledgeable staff that was always helpful. Well things have changed! I believe the products are still of high quality but knowledgeable and helpful staff have disappeared. Don't bother to call for help as they will tell you just to look up what you need on their internet site.... with message delivered in a rude tone. Well Duh! I hate to be one to complain but I am concerned.. They are charging hazardous shipping charges on items that are NOT hazardous for shipping. I ordered 303 water proofing and was being charged an additional charge of 4.95 for hazardous material. I was used their "Price Matching" process and found another provider that did not charge that additional charge... so I looked up the MSDS and called the UPS hazardous hotline.. and in section 14.1 of the MSDS it is "not classified"..meaning not hazardous.. So Jamestown and others.. are making extra money (millions maybe) for shipping that does not necessarily apply. So I suggest when begin charged a hazardous materials charge..look into it.. just don't accept it.. the charge was removed for me but it was a process. read more

Placed an order, from the confirmation which came in my email in about 5 min, found that it had been split and the part I really wanted was to come a month later and with a freight charge despite having a "free freight" code. Called to cancel the order (within 10 min of original order). Was told that it had been cancelled. (Spoke to "Jane) That afternoon found the charge on my credit card anyway. Called to reaffirm my cancellation and was told not to worry and that I could ship back the part that had been processed (Had been told earlier that it would not go thru at all). Objected that would require time and money spent on my part. Told that's the way it is. They hung up on me. Called back immediately and spoke to the same person(Hillary) who then made a real check to see what was up. Was told again to refuse shipment. When asked to speak to supervisor was told that she was busy. She said that it was cancelled, my card would be credited and the parts would not be shipped. After waiting for almost a month, I called about my order and was told it was back ordered but only after I called them??? When my order was finally received they only shipped one of them. I ordered a boat hatch from them online in November. It was delivered to my home. I took it to my marina to install, which is two hours away from the my home, in December. When the marina unpackaged it, it was broken. I contacted them and asked for a replacement. After some wrangling they agreed. I offered to have the item returned to them, however, they advised that Fed Ex would need to inspect the package and broken hatch at the original delivery address. I agreed to pick it up the next time I was at the marina, but because it was winter and I had weekend family commitments, I couldn't promise when that would be. I even offered to have it shipped to my home at my cost to be inspected. That was not satisfactory to them. When I did not act quick enough to drive two hours back and forth to the marina to pick up the broken hatch they charged my credit card without my authorization.
