I've been seeing Dr Schumann for at least 12 years. Never had a problem getting an appointment, waiting too long to be seen or with any of the staff. There is a lot of turnover, but everyone is always professional and nice- if not friendly. I used to go to Pariser Dermatology, but could NEVER get an appointment and always waited forever to be seen. That place is a factory. I'm quite satisfied with Jamestown Dermatology. read more

I was very dissatisfied with my visit today. I went in to talk about my worsening adult acne and to try to understand the causes for what's happening. My visit with the doctor lasted at most 10 mins. He seemed rushed, stood the whole time, arms crossed, leaning against a counter, acting like he had one foot out of the door. I felt the whole appointment was rushed and impersonal. I got the impression that he didn't care about this problem but rather was trying to push prescriptions. I was offended because when I was expressing that I didn't want to go on birth control for my acne again the doctor actually laughed and persistently suggested that I go back on the pill and didn't even talk to me about other options to control hormonal acne (Even though I'm not sexually active and I have dysplasia in my cervix that hormonal birth control can worsen this condition). The only thing he suggested was a blood test to see if it was hormonal but didn't set anything up to follow that through. Anyway. At the end of the day I paid for an appointment that lasted 10 minutes and was not personal. I wish the doctor would have sat down and spent more time trying to figure out what's going on, because acne is not a "one pill fixes all" problem. read more

I would tell friend DON'T GO. Female DR in practice only works in office very rarely as she is still in military practice. Male, Dr Schumann, who is the lead, spent very little time/very quick answers with me when I went in concerned with hair loss (I'm female). Told me to take minoxidil (over the counter) but NOTHING about any warnings etc. I learned that on my own with research on line and in user groups. Something a DR should take time explaining vs dismissive take this and done. I tried to get my records transferred to another doctor and: 1. They don't have a way to do it per the front desk unless it is transferred to a DR within their system but they are independent so you have to go in to get the records and fax them yourself. They are about 30 yrs behind other offices. 2. I asked questions about the record transfer and they said the office mgr would call back and she didn't. When I called back and questioned what her staff had told me, she kept cutting me off and then hung up when I repeated questions. I never got my records(!) and reported them to Commonwealth of VA health records/(Dr complaints) today. Shouldn't be that bad of customer service at the front desk and the inability to get what is yours- your records. read more

I should have known when I called around and couldn't get an appt. anywhere for my daughter but this place could get us in within the week.... Be warned, arrogant, rude and completely unprofessional. Brought my daughter as a referral from her pediatrician to be seen ASAP for something she was concerned about and asked us to try to be seen by the 1st available dermatologist we could see. Was told by the dermatologist that my pediatrician was overreacting, prescribed the wrong meds and based on where the "spot of concern" was and since she's a 15 year old girl "whose going to see it anytime soon?" I was appalled. We called our pediatrician immediately who was thankfully able to get us in somewhere else and that dermatologist agreed there was no overreacting and it was seen 2 weeks later for immediate surgery removal with a plastic surgeon. This arrogant, disrespectful jerk blew it off. GO ANYWHERE ELSE! read more

I had a great visit with Dr. Schumann at Jamestown Dermatology. He is very talented when it comes to injectables, better that the dermatologist I used to go to when I lived in Los Angeles! Major rip-off office! I had a laser peel that cost me $4800 for ONE treatment that the doctor said would be the only treatment needed. I had had this procedure done several times previously over many years while living in California. Normally, whole-face treatments cost about $800 - $1,000 and I was told that three to four treatments were needed to achieve the result I wanted. I had not shopped around when I agreed to pay this outrageous amount because I have found that many things are much more expensive in VA than in CA. Also the fact that I "only need one treatment" instead of several encouraged me to shell out the big bucks. After about six months post treatment, I saw very little improvement in my facial lines; no better than I had achieved in a $800 treatment with a different brand of laser machine. I called a plastic surgeon's office and found that they perform this same procedure for $900! Furthermore, all other procedures I've had were performed by estheticians, not MDs. This office probably has very little experience with this procedure and is trying to recoup the high cost of the machine on the first few patients. Call a plastic surgeon's office for your laser treatments! They are much more knowledgeable, skilled, and trained than are dermatologists. read more

No more psoriasis burning, itching or cracking. Even better, no drugs or scaring. Both Dr. Schumann and Dr. Beasley are very compassionate, caring and really listened to all of the issues and took thorough tests before they diagnosed me. For the first time I feel relief without nasty side effects and come down medication runs. Wait time is a minimum and the staff is courteous and caring. I am so grateful. read more

I've recently moved to Virginia and I've had on-going issues with skin cancer and finding a competent dermatologist is very important to me. I asked around and Jamestown Dermatology was highly recommended to me. I'm so glad! I did some research on Dr. Schumann's background and he's got even higher qualifications than my last doc. My first visit was really comforting. Dr Schumann reviewed my past history, asked lots of questions and asked about other medical conditions I might have as well as any vitamins that I may be taking. He was interested in my general health and any interactions that might affect my skin. We got a good maintenance plan set up; I'm impressed and I feel like I'm in good hands! read more

Definitely would not recommend. My 10 year old went in to get warts removed from his feet and had the worst visit with Dr. Schumann. Schumann seemed rushed, couldn't be bothered with us and had the bed side manner of a rock. He dismissed my son's concerns when he kept saying it really hurt. Dr. Schumann rushed from one process to the next with a curt, "it doesn't get any better, let's go". My son has not been able to walk on his foot for over 48hrs; far and away the worst reaction he ever had. There is no after hours emergency line, so don't expect a call after normal business hours. Would actively NOT recommend this location and especially Dr. Schumann. read more

Do not go to Dr. Keith W Schumann, MD. I went today with a problem and a few general questions about some other minor skin issues I have. He is very condescending. After asking him a few questions, he informed me that patients usually only get to ask about three things but he was doing me a favor by answering more. The poor nurse had to record all of the information and too many questions would take too much of her time. I said I understood (although I didn't agree) and he bluntly said he didn't think I did. Really, I was not capable of understanding that he thought I was getting too much information on his one dime! I'll never go back. I feel sad for his partner if he is a good doctor. read more

I have been seeing Dr Schumann for over four years and had great experiences. I am 64 and spent much of my life outdoors and as a result I have had a number of issues with my skin that have required surgeries and freezing. Dr. Schumann found a small melanoma that I thought was a freckle and removed it with no scarring. I feel that he provides a thorough exam and his surgical skills are outstanding. The staff has always been warm and I have rarely waited over a few minutes for my appointment. I am surprised at the negative reviews. First time patient trying to find a new location and arrived less than 10 minutes past my appointment. Was advised that I needed to reschedule my appointment and that Dr. Schumann "had already left the building. None of this made logical sense. A lot of very rude, "back and forth" from the surly front desk staff; they were extremely dismissive. Don't bother with this practice-they obviously haven't a clue about customer service and dealing with the public. They did not give me a reminder appointment phone call; nor offer to send the paperwork to fill out for a first time appointment. read more

I will never return to Dr. Schumann. He was arrogant and rude with me. He only wanted to listen to one complaint at a time instead of taking in whole body and possible reason for body rash, which turned out to be a common, yet dangerous, side effect from a medication I was taking. I've used Dr. Schumann for almost a decade for both medical and cosmetic needs and he's always been top notch. Also brought my teenage son for acne treatment which was effective and his skin cleared within a week or two. Also sent my elderly father for medical treatment and Dr. Schumann was terrific with him and eased his worries. Could not recommend more highly. He's sharp, skilled, and has always been helpful. Never had a problem making or cancelling an appointment. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Never had to wait very long but if you do have to wait, it means the Dr. takes their time with each patient. That's the kind of service I want and have received at this practice. read more

Called to make appt only asked for phone number, not reason for visit or insurance info. I called back to verify about insurance coverage. Came to appt 15 minutes early to be respectful of time in case paperwork, etc was needed. Waited in lobby 25 min past my appt time, then called to the back to sign papers and get history by office staff. When she learned the reason for my visit she deemed previous records were needed and proceeded to request them. At approx 40 min past my appointment time she came in to let me they hadn't forgotten me and they were waiting for records. When asked about the long wait she developed attitude and the insinuation was that it was my fault because i hadn't told them my history. I then asked what the 25 min wait in the lobby for because we weren't waiting on old charts then. I told her I didn't think this was sounding like a good fit and I thought I would leave and she seemed happy to see me leave. This could have easily been remedied upon appt request if I had been advised to bring records or if asked reason for visit. Wondering if the doctor ever questioned where his 940am patient was???? He could have seen me while records were coming. Just don't go here, disrespectful staff and not respectful of my time. read more

I am not at all pleased with experience. They overcharge for the appointment ($50 to see the doctor) and also charge $100 if you have to cancel your appointment. I also had to wait 30 mins past my appointment time and didn't see any improvement in my skin. The doctor is nice, but again overcharges and no improvement to skin. Overall not satisfied at all and would recommend going somewhere else. read more

Watch out for the staff here. After they mishandled my billing, they refused to continue my appointments because of a delayed payment caused by their own mistakes. Like the other commenter here, the staff was not helpful in responding to inquiries about the billing. Dr. Schumann failed to respond to my letter seeking an explanation. I wouldn't even give it one star! This is the worst Doctor and the staff is scared to say anything, and when they do they look behind to make sure that no one is around. I had a procedure done and he used metal blades in my eyes and burnt them. Went in and he told me to go to an eye doctor and I did and they couldn't believe what he done. I asked them to call them for me and they said that they couldn't . I couldn't see for 3 days!!!!!! I would NEVER, EVER let him do anything to you. I know things happen, but he wouldn't even help me. I reported him to the VA medical board also!!! And after all this and money not a big difference.......Please don't be like me and let this man hurt you the way he did me!! He wouldn't even help with the medical bills from the other doctor. read more
