We first paid separately for an initial consultation, during which the case and documents were reviewed. At that time, we were informed there was a possibility to proceed with the case and seek bond relief, and we even received positive follow-up communication encouraging us to move forward. Based on those representations, we hired the firm and paid an additional $1,500 retainer. Later, after another attorney spoke with the detainee, we were suddenly informed that nothing could be done and that voluntary departure was the only option. We decided to cancel the services at that point. What was most frustrating is that after the retainer payment, we did not provide any substantial additional documentation for further case preparation, since the main documents had already been reviewed during the consultation stage. Despite that, the firm refused any refund and claimed that the work performed already exceeded the amount paid. Communication was also difficult because many important updates were sent through text messages from different phone numbers instead of email, making it hard to track conversations and case updates properly. I understand legal assessments can change, but clearer communication, transparency, and a more reasonable explanation of the charges would have made this experience much better.
