They only care about lying to everyone that this is a good schooll some of teh teachers are nice but they always get fired. Don't even get me started on the recess teachers, they are always yelling at kids not letting them play around and truly be kids. And the lunch is disgusting. There are exces amounts of bullying in there. Most of the teachers have favorites which makes me extremely mad. And teh counselors dot do nothing, instead of trying to resolve a problem, they just suspend people. I don't not recommend this school, it just gave me a lot of stress and anxiety. It was an absolute hell

Her mentality is that kids will be kids and does not hold them accountable. There's bullying, physical violence among other things from the 4th grade and up. I just cannot believe that I was suckered in to this school with the tour, and I think even the kids are in on it because they behaved and acted very differently from how they act now. For the amount of money I pay I am extremely dissatisfied with this school. Maybe if they replace the principal with someone who knows how to run a school it might have a better future. Bottom line: keep tuition money in your pocket. At least this school is NOT worth it.

Please Be aware they just started charging non refundable registration fees for next year's school year. As a parent, this truely angers me. Private school is already too expensive. Last year it was the cockroach infestation now this? It's extremely sad to see the way the arch diocese has handled this. Private investors are pulling donations that are keeping the school afloat. The current principle has been forced to resign on allegations I shouldn't share. You may ask why none of this has been released to the press? The arch diocese is a non for profit which allows for different treatment. Every truth I just stated has been brushed under the rug. It's sad and angers myself as a parent. I for one will not be sending my child back to this school.

A friend lived nearby and I often passed the school over the years. I guess it's been a few years since I went past Gunsaulus Scholastic Academy because it is more impressive than ever! I remembered a playground on the corner section of the school property near 44th St.& Sacramento Ave. It has been replaced by a track and soccer field. (see business photos) It looked more like a high school to me than an elementary school. Well, maybe that's because it is a "scholastic academy"!?! A Little HISTORY The school opened in 1924 and the estimated cost was $650,000 - - a considerable amount of money nearly 100 years ago! Lovely built-in features included: *Foyer with fine heavy oak woodwork, leaded glass windows and decorative plasterwork. *Terrazzo and marble hall floors. *800 seat auditorium *Large gymnasium on the fourth floor. *Enormous original kindergarten with non-working fireplace and kitchen. *The building originally accommodated 500 elementary students as well as the Freshmen of nearby Kelly High School. *Gunsaulus became a Scholastic Academy in 1982. https://gunsaulus.org//m/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=200710&type=d&pREC_ID=400544 For history of Frank W. Gunsaulus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_W._Gunsaulus TODAY Gunsaulus Scholastic Academy: *Grades PK-8th *Instruction based on NWEA and Fountas and Pinnell Assessments aligned to Common Core State Standards. *Offers high school algebra to 8th graders who are prepared for success in the program. School Introduction : https://gunsaulus.org/m/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=200710&type=d&termREC_ID=&pREC_ID=401084 Gunsaulus Scholastic Academy seems to be a school where a child can get a very fine education. I just hope they moved that playground that used to be where the soccer field is now to the back of the building. (I did not check out the back of the building) I think it would be nice if the kids can have some fun on their journey to becoming "a community of passionate, loving, and respectful life-long learners and leaders who empower themselves as global citizens" - The Vision for the Students in the School Introduction link above.
