My older child has experienced repeated issues with other students that affected how safe, comfortable, and accepted he felt at school. Although we communicated our concerns and appreciated the attempts that were made to address them, the overall experience reached a point where my child no longer wanted to attend the school. I also became concerned about the level of care my 2-year-old was receiving. There were multiple times when she would come home with a dirty, runny nose that clearly had not been wiped or cleaned. I understand that toddlers get messy, but at two years old I expect basic care and attention to her hygiene throughout the school day. Another major concern was how distressed she became about going to school. Every morning, she would scream and cry for me not to leave her. At first, I tried to give her time to adjust because I understand that separation can be difficult for young children. But as the days continued and her distress remained so intense, it became harder for me to dismiss it as simply normal adjustment. The most disturbing concern came when my 2-year-old began telling me that her teacher, Mrs. Begley, had been pinching her on her bottom and yelling at her. My daughter is extremely articulate and bright for her age. She has a very strong vocabulary and memory, and people often assume she is older because of how clearly she communicates. She explained what she said was happening in a very specific way and even demonstrated to me how she said the pinching was being done. Hearing and seeing my child describe this was extremely alarming and upsetting. I take what my children tell me seriously, especially when it involves an adult responsible for their care. I cannot personally say what happened when I was not present, but I can say exactly what my daughter reported to me, how clearly she communicated it, and how distressed she had already been about being left at school each morning. I genuinely wanted Daystar to be a positive experience for my children, but within only three weeks we have already dealt with concerns involving my older child's emotional well-being, my toddler's basic care, her intense distress about attending school, and now an extremely serious report from my 2-year-old regarding her teacher. Every family may have a different experience, but based on what my children and I have experienced in such a short amount of time, I cannot recommend Daystar. My children's physical and emotional safety will always come first, and no parent should have to question whether their child feels safe, cared for, welcomed, and protected while they are at school.

I am teacher at this school and I'm writing this review from that perspective…read more I worked here part-time for a couple years (2011-13) when the school was still very young and in it's initial location. It was a positive and supportive place then. I returned in the fall of 2019 and I have never been happier and felt more supported in any work environment. I am so glad to have come back. With the time away, I can readily see how the school has grown and improved. I have never worked at an educational institution that is so deeply committed to equity and inclusion, where the entire faculty is actively, enthusiastically, and humbly engaged in discussions around that. My understanding and appreciation of the world is being nourished here. I have been supported with funding for many professional development workshops. I have been regularly supported by my colleagues, who really support each other with positive energy, ideas, discussions, brain storming, helping hands, and challenging each other to strive for better and better. At the heart of it all is a focus on the children and the understanding that we are the best teachers when we are supported day-to-day and in professional development, and when we are growing as human beings and striving as much as we ask the children to do.

One thing for sure: they all graduated from high school & went on to college. As for current day involvement, I visit the school to pick up my grandkids every once in awhile. My daughter started there at 3 months in the baby class, and progressed through 3 rooms, to the 2 year classroom. Ms. Kenecia, Ms. Jackie, Amr, Ms Gladys, and Ms.Charlotte who care for babies up to 2 years are all fantastic. Loving, attentive, caring and communicative. We never had an issue until we arrived at the 2 year old classroom, and experienced two instances of neglect and verbal abuse of our daughter. We addressed the first incident with the director, and a teacher was moved out of the room. Then, we continued to see new teachers in our kids classroom and they'd never introduce themselves and we were never notified. Multiple parents voiced concerns, we started to have teacher bios printed on the doors, but those would not cover the revolving door of additional teachers we'd see every week. Some days we'd drop our daughter off and there was 2 teachers for multiple classrooms at 830a, nearly an hour after they opened. The last straw was another parent alerting us to a teacher yelling at our child outside and telling her to "shut up" and "stop crying" and that "she was the problem." She's 2 years old! We, along with many parents, reached out to the director following this and though she verbally communicated her apology, she did not speak to either the teacher who yelled at my daughter nor the teacher that was present. We've reached out to the regional manager to also voice our concerns but made the decision to pull our daughter out of the school because at this point we are concerned for her wellbeing. The teachers are great about sending videos and pictures throughout the day so you can track how your child is doing. They have made some recent upgrades to the space, including a nice large indoor play space and a new library. And I think they take kids outside every day if the weather permits. In terms of price, D2D is comparable to similar child care centers in the area. And the peace of mind you get from knowing that your babies are being taken care of is priceless.
