Paying for Pain. First, I received a crown despite having pain or complaints. After placement, I experienced severe pain for several days. Because Dr. Schmidt is only in the office one day per week, I saw another dentist twice for bite adjustments without relief and was told they could not proceed further since they did not place the crown. After waiting nearly another week, Dr. Schmidt determined a root canal was needed through the crown, requiring multiple appointments over several weeks. After recovery, I gave Dr. Schmidt a second chance months later for a filling. I was told it would not be near the nerve so I wouldn't experience anything like I did with the crown. After the procedure, I had ongoing pain and difficulty chewing. Adjustments did not resolve the issue, and I was told the filling was done right, but they could redo it. Across both treatments, I experienced significant pain that was not present beforehand, resulting in lack of sleep, inability to eat or drink normally, days of missed work, and multiple appointments. I declined further treatment and sought care elsewhere. I paid for the crown and root canal. Then received a bill for the filling without detailed explanation. I requested it be waived since it left me in pain / difficulty eating and I would need it redone but would not do so in this office after multiple bad experiences. I used to go to Dr Schmidt he needs to retire. He tried to do a root canal on a tooth and obviously didn't know what he was doing. He had me come back three times each time he worked on the tooth he would make noise like he was disgusted and kept looking at the tooth on an X-ray. When he finally finished I had a big gap between my gum and the tooth. It eventually had to be pulled because decay under the crown "NOT" a good dentist read more

Horrible service. I hope you like over paying for terrible work and spitting little chunks of glue out for hours after abd having weird ridges in your teeth because that's what Dr Meister does for you! Dr Schmidt was wonderful, but he's never there abd now his practice is being ruined by a horrible dentist! read more

My wait time was very minimal, the lobby and rooms were all clean and tidy, the staff is friendly, and they answered all of my questions politely and professionally. I pay out of pocket, so I'm not sure how insurance handling is, but I find their prices to be reasonable for the services I am receiving. read more

I have been a patient of this dental office for a few years now and have consistently made all appointments, paid all outstanding balances in a timely manner and had zero issues. And then, I received a notice that I owed less than $40. I called the office several times and was unable to talk to someone as I had questions regarding the charge. I had every intention to pay it but before I did so, I wanted to get some clarity as to why I owed it in the first place and to make sure it wasn't an error. I left several voicemails and never got a call back. I received one notice via mail regarding the balance and that is why I called the office in the first place. They claimed to have sent me several notices for the balance but I only received one which I tried to explain via voicemail and if I ever got the chance to talk to someone. Mind you I called and left messages and no one ever called me back. I ended up just paying the $37 since I didn't hear from them. That same week, I received a notice saying they were terminating my dentist-patient relationship due to the $37 balance owed which mind you I paid. And just a reminder I still have yet to get a call back from them too clarify the charge in the first place. I called when I received the notice and they were out of office so I left yet another voicemail so we will see if I get a call back. For being a patient and for having always been a good patient at that, I am disappointed that no one from the office had the decency to even call me back or call me to see what was going on especially during these crazy times we are in, before terminating our patient/doctor relationship. My family has always been in the medical profession and to put $37 over customer service and a positive relationship with a patient is disappointing especially when you try to contact them and make the payment and no one returns your phone calls. If it is ever a choice between money or a patient, I guess it's all about the money even if it's only $37. So sad and disappointing. read more

Worse cleaning I have ever received. She's used a little toothpaste and didn't even rinse my teeth off. She sprayed some water in my mouth and asked me to scrub it off myself. Not to mention didn't use a pic at all to attack plaque. Went through with some floss real quick and then the doc came in. The cleaning was a complete joke though. I will be going back to my other dentist for future cleanings. Also on another note I have been to a lot of different dentist and this one is by far the most expensive as I got a print out of the work I need. Pricing is very high. Make sure you are ready for a phone call from the dentist after you post on yelp cause he will call and complain about your review and then argue about it with you. read more

Called office to make appt and first thing i asked was were they in network with my insurance. She said yes and i made an appt that was in about 2 weeks. Called back for directions and ask about waiting list and talked to a different woman about 2 hours later and she said i could be seen in 2 days which was great. Asked why other lady did not give me that date and she did not know why. Next day a day before appt called for better directions to find place and was given that then this different lady asked what insurance i had. I told her that discussion had already happened a day earlier and this woman said were getting out of most insurance plans except for delta. she said i needed to call my unitedhealcare and see if they were in network. What the heck this had already been done plus i got their practice from uhc website in first place. we argued for about 10 minutes over this and i thought she should know this answer anyway, office mgr in meeting, sure she was. Called uhc first said they were in network and i asked to call practice and found they been out of network for about 6 months. Wasted two days more of pain in tooth, and do not recommend this practice if you want to use your insurance the staff were not helpful at all.And they give out bad info. read more

Dr. Schmidt and clinical staff are great. His office staff leave a lot to be desired. Their billing system is horrible. They tell you one thing and then bill another thing. You're told you have no pending balance and then your receive a bill months later (7) stating your payment is overdue. Then the staff want to talk over you and not listen. Save a headache and go elsewhere. read more

I will never give a dentist a 5-star review, sorry. :-P But this place is pretty awesome. I've had a trouble tooth for a while and a dental hygienist made a great suggestion that has pretty much eliminated my pain. They've always been pretty friendly and I don't dread going there as much as I did other dentists in the past. read more

I received a prompt and appropriate examination and cleaning with no unnecessary procedures or cost. I felt that this is a very honest and straight forward practice dedicated to dental health, and nothing else. Glad I listened to my wife who has been a patient here for about a year with the same feelings that dental health of the patient is why their in business. If you are needing more than a cleaning I would use this Dentist with caution the office staff isn't very helpful when it comes to explaining things and isn't helpful when it comes to cutting cost for the patient they will not explain it clearly. And if you have questions about somethings they do not give you a straight answer and will make you feel that you can not comprehend what they are saying. When you start to question them on things they become very rude. I have to say I work in the medical field and I would never treat patients they way they do. Very unprofessional ZERO compassion when it comes to patients they are all about the easy way of doing things and expect you to just figure it out on your own I have been going to them for a few years now and after all of this I will not be returning. They also hung up on me when I asked to cancel my follow up appointment. read more

I have lived in St Louis for over 35 years and in that time I have been to 7 different dentists, not because I've wanted to change but because I've had to. None of them have been perfect until now. I am ever so grateful to a friend who suggested I try Dr. Schmidt and his team. I had been told before that one of my molars would need to be pulled and I would have to have an implant and Dr. Schmidt was able to save the tooth and put a cap on it. I had also been told that I required all kinds of other cosmetic veneers and that fixing chips are only temporary and wouldn't last and that is apparently untrue because I've had the same fixed chips for the past 5 years with no problems. Also, this is the first time I have been to any dentist anywhere who has not tried to upsell me with all kinds of other things- braces, teeth whitening, veneers, replacement fillings- you name it, I've heard it. It was so refreshing not to have to pay hundreds of dollars more than what my dental insurance does not cover. Now I get the 2 free cleaning/ exams twice a year that is covered and much lower co-pays than I've had in the past. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the excellent cleaning I received from the dental hygienist. He was very gentle and didn't scrape and pick on my teeth until my gums bled and hurt as every other awful hygienist has done. That was a relief. read more

Use this dentist at your own risk. Our appointment with the dentist Dr. James Schmidt was very professional, and he was very good with my daughter. However, his office staff is a collection of the rudest, most horrible people I have ever met. They have zero concern for the patient, or patient needs. Absolutely zero compassion. I scheduled a second appointment for my daughter, which they cancelled without any notice, and when I called to speak to someone about it they left me on hold for over 8 minutes. I called back again and asked to talk to an office manager and the receptionist hung up on me. The third time I called, I spoke to another woman who said the office manager was out of the office and would I like to leave a message for her? I asked about why my appointment was cancelled, and the receptionist claimed that I cancelled the appointment myself. I hung up, and scheduled an appointment with another dentist. There are plenty of dentists in town, there is literally no reason I can think of to subject yourself to the terrible service you will get in Dr. Schmidt's office. read more
