Even after I moved to another county I still make the trek because I literally get compliments on my teeth ALL the time. I was told by several people that Dr. Kanda was a truly superb dentist. I was loathe to change from my previous dentist (whom I had been with for 15 years), but when one moves across the state it is a a little unavoidable. So I decided to give him a try. I went to see him about 5 times. I will list my grievances below. 1) The first time I went he insinuated that my previous dentist was a hack and had not done a good job on my teeth. That he had made bank on my mouth because I had so many fillings. I had so many fillings because I was in poor health for a number of years and the fillings could not be avoided. Did Dr Kanda ask about my health before jumping to this conclusion? No. My previous dentist was a wonderful man that always did right by his patients. His whole office did. For Dr. Kanda to take shots at a practice, or person, that he knows nothing about to make himself look better is sub-par. 2) They completely forgot one of my appointments. I have never had that happen before. I took time out of my workday for them and they lost my appointment. I understand it can happen, but they did not seem at all apologetic. They brushed it off with a "it happens", and moved my appointment out farther. However, when I was unable to get to an appointment due to traffic, they made me feel incredibly guilty for not being there, even though that also "happens". 3) Whenever I went in to have work done, Dr. Kanda would "find" something else that would require I come back again. OR he would "find" something while I was sitting in the chair and decide to "fix it" without even telling me, or asking me about it. While he is the professional regarding teeth, I have a brain, it is my mouth, and I deserve to be notified if he decides to do additional work. 4) He wanted to put a filling on one of my upper front teeth because it "looked" like it was starting to de-calcify. I said no, which did not make him very happy. When I went to a different dentist, and a got a full set of xrays and exam done, he saw absolutely nothing wrong in that location. (I absolutely love my new dentist btw) 5) He would often come across as cocky, self assured, and act as if he was superior in some way. I really have no patience for that kind of attitude. Overall, I did not enjoy my time in Dr. Kandas office. If he works for you that's great to hear, but I will not be returning. read more

Works with teeth like a jeweler, then PERSONALLY calls you after the procedure to "check-in". Need I say more? ...ok, if you insist: 1. Dr. Kanda and his staff are always ON-TIME, zero wait time. 2. Uses the best tools and materials to get the job done right 3. Meets with staff to discuss each patient's plan of treatment before start of day 4. Will proactively check on health of other teeth before you have to ask. Investigates an issue if he sees a potential for a problem without waiting for it to get worse before saying something 5. His staff reflects his passion for quality and competence (and we all know how many great doctors fall victim to unruly front office staff) 6. If you need a procedure he does not perform, will refer you to another highly competent professional, and not a "buddy" 7. Last, but not least, I almost fell asleep during one of the procedures. My parents were referred to Dr. Kanda by some friends and the three of us decided to schedule appointments with him due to his high praise. The entire staff is just a joy to be around. It's never a dull moment in the waiting room! The ladies at the front desk would chat with me, make conversation, and we all shared laughs! Definitely made me feel welcome while I waited for my appointment. Even during my appointment the hygienist and x-ray technician were pleasant to be around, they would talk to me step-by-step about what they were doing and made me feel comfortable about each procedure. When it's your first time going in to Dr. Kanda's office they make sure they understand how your teeth are built by taking photos as well as x-rays. When Dr. Kanda came in he was extremely kind and shook my hand. He looked at the x-rays and photos discussing with me what he see's, what his concerns are, and even a before and after photo of my teeth once it was cleaned (amazing the difference!). His practice is definitely in touch with the latest dental equipment using a special detector that can identify if a tooth has a cavity or not. Since I had not been to the dentist in a long time I got my first set of cavities (3) and had to come for two additional visits to get them taken care of. I was a bit nervous because they were my first and I was not familiar with the procedure. When I went for my fillings, Dr. Kanda was reassuring, extremely gentle, and eased my nerves. The teeth look completely normal, it's as if a cavity never existed. What amazed me most was that during the evening the same day after both procedures he called me to make sure I was doing okay! I was shocked! I didn't expect such kindness and reaching the extra mile just to make sure my teeth were doing well. That's not only a professional, that's a man that really cares about his patient's well-being. I saw the one bad review and I was surprised at the impression described. I haven't been to the dentist in many many years. If Dr. Kanda was just trying to find something wrong, he could have said a lot more to me and he knew my dental history. read more

I found Dr Kanda's office on google and called his office to set up and appointment ASAP I spoke with Ada she was able to scheduled me in I did everything online like the ((new patient forms )) very simple and easy . Literally 1 click away My 1st visit was no wait . "Not all heroes wear capes..." With that said, Dr. Kanda and his staff are my heroes! I have tried to avoid the dentist since my last dentist appointment about 3 years ago. But now that I met Dr. Kanda, I'm not afraid to go to the dentist anymore. I had a really bad tooth abscess with a pain level of 100 out of 10. The pain started Saturday night but I didn't know who to call. My sister referred me to Dr. Kanda and she gave me the emergency line to call him. It turned out to be his cell phone so, I was shy to leave a message. My sister called for me and he told her to call his office tomorrow morning to squeeze me in. I called at 8am and spoke to Becky, the warmest and kindest front desk personnel I have ever met and she was able to squeeze me in at 11am to try to save my tooth. Come 1045am, I was in a chair for an X-ray which was done by Ally, who was gentle and fast when it came to the X-ray. I then met Dr. Kanda, who was understanding and empathic to the pain I was experiencing. He wanted the pain to stop more than I did and he did by numbing it and numbing it even more. I was moved to another chair where I met Esby his assistant for over 15 years. She was so sweet and helped ease my anxiety away. 45 minutes later, the first half of my root canal was complete. I was left with absolutely no pain from the procedure and my tooth was saved and the infection was gone. I come back for the next step but Dr. Kanda was honest and upfront with what I should expect. He helped me financially by not referring me to a specialist and saving my tooth. For that I will be forever grateful! Thank you again and again to Dr. James Kanda and his staff! Dr. James Kanda is an exceptional dentist who truly cares about his patients. His practice is nothing short of the best dental office I have ever been to. My wife has had a large number of dental issues over the past several years. As a result she has developed severe anxiety when it comes to any sort of dental work. This anxiety was exacerbated by trips to several dental offices where we were not treated well. We were extremely fortunate to find Dr. Kanda's office. During our first visit he took the time to listen to all of our concerns and really got to know us. He has a very amiable personality and a comforting voice that instantly puts you at ease. He never acted rushed, never talked down to us or dismissed our concerns, and always explained everything he was doing so we knew why he was doing it. Most important of all, he understood my wife's extreme anxiety and took it seriously, doing everything he could to make sure she felt comfortable on every visit. He would even personally call her the evening after a procedure to make sure she was doing ok. We visited Dr. Kanda's office at least a dozen times in a year. His office is clean, modern, and never crowded. Sometimes we had to try to schedule an appointment at the last minute, but he always managed to squeeze us in no matter how busy he was. His staff is extremely friendly and helpful, especially Lucy, who became our personal angel for helping us with insurance, scheduling, emails, and the like. Dr. Kanda's wife, who also works at the office, was always extremely friendly and comforting. She would personally do my wife's cleanings to help ease her anxiety, and it really helped a lot. Dr. Kanda and his staff regularly went above and beyond what I would expect from a dental office. I truly know that they cared about me and my wife and wanted the best for us. Even though I was his patient for a short amount of time I enjoyed ever visit there. Unfortunately I moved 35 minutes away and tried a local dentist to me... boy was that a mistake! After a terrible visit to my local dentist I told myself that I would not go to the dentist again unless I went to Dr. Kanda. About 4 weeks ago I called Dr. Kanda's office where Becky the receptionist remembered who I was and my mother as well. She scheduled me for the following week and made things so easy about going back. I went in and the staff was so warm and welcoming just how they were 4 years ago. They even had to search for my file in the attic because of my return. My first visit back with Dr. Kanda I couldn't be happier, it was like I never left. The staff was amazing as always and I left feeling great! I had an appointment for 3 weeks later for a filing and to have an old filling fixed.
