Dermatology of Santa Fe's response to my inquiry was that I should wait and see what is billed to me. I explained that I can't take the chance that something I'm used to paying $100 would be billed at $500 and asked if she could check on the cost. I suggested to her, "don't you know the price you bill services at?" Her reply was, "no, I'm sorry I can't help you." In my view this is bad customer service and it suggests unfair billing procedures are being practiced here. Beware.

The office staff was very professional. I was seen by a PA, Timothy. Instead of the typical rushed visit, he took as much time as I wanted, and explained thoroughly. Apparently, about 3 weeks prior to this, we had accepted a cancellation slot so he could see the doctor sooner, but the appointment date on the intake paperwork never updated to reflect that change. When the staff member called to inform me he had missed his appointment, she said, "The doctor doesn't want to see him anymore because he has a strict no-show policy. You owe a $50 no-show fee." That policy would actually be fine if the correct appointment date had been communicated so we could show up when expected. Most clinics call or text to confirm an appointment a day or two in advance, but this place did not. It was very unprofessional and rude. No wonder there are so many 1-star reviews.

She then told me they had a dermatologist on staff and would make an appointment for me with this person. When I arrived, the doctor told me he wasn't a dermatologist, but had some knowledge in dermatology. However, he had no knowledge of the service I was requesting. So, once again, I was lied to about the service I would be provided. My suggestion would be to avoid this clinic. If they aren't able to honestly represent what they can offer, it makes me wonder about the quality of care.

My life is very busy with the kids, and it's very important that I stay functional. When I original started at unity I was unable to walk around properly. My quality of life was very low. Dr. Kastendieck is one of the best doctors anyone could ever ask. He tries to help you get to the root of the problem. He believes in preventive care which is incredibly important to me. I'd rather not have to deal with a problem at all than to deal with a problem after it comes up. He has helped me with so much. He has helped me deal with my sever generalized anxiety disorder, severe issues with my fibromyalgia, . I have suffered from chronic pain my entire life. It's gotten so bad that when I originally went to Unity Medical I was unable to properly walk without a wheelchair. I would have days where I could walk, but I always needed help with doing basic things in life like showering. Without Unity Medical I would not have good quality of life. I owe them everything. My debt of gratitude is great for not just Dr. Kastendieck, but the entire staff. They have help me through a lot over the past 10 years. Unity Medical has been good not just for me, but for my entire family, because of them now I can help family instead of them helping me all of the time. In a state where access to healthcare is already difficult for a practice to drop contracts with major insurance carriers and opt to only serve individuals who are able and willing to pay out of pocket is abhorrent. Santa Fe elitist practitioners know that there is a wealthy population in this town that will support these "concierge practices." So, they don't care what happens to their existing patients. I could stay, and pay the concierge prices but what service am I getting for the additional out of pocket? My last three visits I've noticed a significant decline in customer service at the reception area. The practice manager is downright rude. And, they will not submit claims as an out of network provider so I'd have the privilege of taking on their administrative work. So what concierge service would I receive for the additional out of pocket cost?

PLEASE be aware that Medicare will NOT approve these charges in full & consequently your secondary insurance will also not reimburse you for the total charges. It was explained to me by my insurance company that under federal law, the provider should be paying me a refund since the doctor's charges were NOT approved by Medicare after the they were submitted. I did not pursue this however, as I am fairly certain they will argue that their policy is that the patient must make full payment at the time of the service. On July 25, 2025 I was seen again with concerns over sutures left in my scalp. I was told they would eventually work themselves out. It is now a full year & 2 months after my surgery & those sutures are still a nuisance for me, and often get infected. When I complained about this recently to the receptionist by phone, she never returned with an explanation from the doctor. She asked if I wished to schedule an appointment, which knowing I would be charged for it again, I declined. I was warned by my insurance company to avoid & beware of doctors who do not accept insurance & overcharge for procedures. I will NOT be returning to Dr. Grant.
