Consider yourself warned. Arrive early and have tea or a snack. (It's inappropriate that the 2 snacks are both sugary junk food though.) Don't miss my initial review for essential appointment info!

I had an insurance change that required that I change all of my medical providers to UCSF. Queue…read morenew primary care. It took more than a month to get an initial appointment. UC requires an initial "get to know you" appointment that is an hour long. What a waste of time and energy. Regardless of whether you are already in the UC system, you fill out a very long questionnaire. The majority of the appointment is having the info put into the system. Once in, it will not be relevant at all to your care. I don't mind having a longer initial appointment, but it felt like it was going to be dragged out the full time even when there was nothing left to discuss. I don't want to be here this long. The doctor must have someplace better to be. This feels more like a billing scam or UC trying to improve patient relations by using a very wrong tactic. This appointment did not even include a physical exam beyond listening to my heart and lungs. My PCP is Dr. Boaz. He meets the minimum of what you need in a PCP. He is somewhat cocky and seems to crave approval whenever he gets something right. He is over-confident in his knowledge, relying on the easiest answer. Skin issue? Have some hydrocortisone that you could buy OTC. Laugh about the possibility that you might have an allergic reaction to it based on your critical allergies. He may also throw a more major comment out there as if it's nothing. For example, you might need a pacemaker. Such a comment could send someone into a major fear spiral. If he sends you to a specialist, he will not go against what the specialist says, even if you explain that the communication with the specialist was a mess. Sure, they misdiagnosed you and recommended meds that could cause you real harm, but why not take them anyway? After all, the specialist recommended it. Per him, he can't go against what they said. It feels like he wants to prove he knows more than you. He's an MD. I assume he knows much more about medicine than I do. I am not sure why he needs that assurance from his patients. Overall, depending on your insurance, you can be stuck with this for your PCP. You'll get by but it won't be good. I miss having a doctor who saw me as an individual and whose personal issues didn't seem to take up so much space.

She took care to explain why she was prescribing certain medications and gently prodded me to make more helpful healthy choices. She was confident but gentle in her guidance. Others commented here, saying that she failed to diagnose a rare medical condition. I don't find that to be disqualifying because, by definition, a rare medical condition is hard to discover. Dr. Khoo was cheerful, sensible and straightforward. Exactly what I wanted in a doctor. Would recommend her highly.

Instead, I called to confirm the appointment (scheduled for three weeks from today) and they have no record of me or the appointment. She moved over to Sutter and *completely dropped me and the appointment she proactively scheduled with me.* She didn't give me any notice about dropping me or anything I needed to do. I assumed we were all set for the upcoming appointment and now they are treating me as a new patient with the next available appointment four months from now. REALLY poorly handled by the doctor all around.

He truly takes the time needed to get to know your entire health history, and he examines his patients from a holistic medical and emotional perspective. As the patient, he also invests time in learning your perspective of your health concerns and goals, and that is uncommon with many other medical providers these days. Brian is also eager to be a part of your whole medical team, and he will work with you and other medical providers to ensure you get the best care possible. I could not recommend him highly enough.

Some of them were very holistic, others gave what I'd call "obvious" advice ("it hurts? keep off it." which is fine when accompanied with some more detailed information, but not on its own), and still others were just not very thorough. Even though I'd only signed up for a "brief visit" through One Medical, Brian first went over all my previous visits and made sure those were addressed. Then we moved onto my current issue (a nagging ankle injury), where he listened to all of the possible causes for it and the various treatments I'd already tried. Followed by a physical examination of the area and strength tests, he didn't just say "keep off it" as previous One Medical doctors had given, but gave specific advice about pre and post-workout treatments and recommended me to a physical therapist he trusted. I'm glad to have re-applied for One Medical and would recommend Dr. Secemsky as a primary care doctor. Visit him before all of his slots start filling up!

He's basically getting very money-oriented. My mother-in-law was discharged from hospital recently and went to see him within the first 2 weeks per the hospital's recommendation. The day after she saw him, he got some fax from the durable medical equipment company asking him to sign so that it can continue to deliver the incontinent supplies to my MIL. He would not sign and ask my MIL to go see him again. I told him that she just saw him the day before and it's not easy for her to go out as she just had a surgery which made her wheelchair bound. Dr. Ko wouldn't care about her hardship to go to the office and the fact that he just saw her for check up the day before. He wanted her in the office or else he wouldn't sign the paperwork. Plus I saw a sign in his office that he would charge for each paper that he signs. I don't exactly remember how much it is; I think it's around $25 each. That's not it. This "doctor" also has poor bedside manner, very impatient and did not listen to patients' concerns. I accompanied my MIL to see him and both of us felt rushed (my MIL felt rushed inside the exam room and she actually just went in and came back out within 5 min) and I also felt rushed when I asked him questions. I am now in the process of looking for another doctor for my MIL. Stay away from this doctor! He's just for money, not for the passion of being a good doctor.
