The Best Podiatrist and Foot & Ankle Practice I Could Ever Ask For…read more Northern California Foot & Ankle Center of Santa Rosa has cared for me for years, through visit after visit, concern after concern, and I genuinely do not have enough words to express my gratitude. Every single time I have walked through their doors, every level of this clinic has treated me with kindness, dignity, patience, and respect. No matter how many questions I had, how many complaints I brought with me, or what I was going through, I consistently left happier than when I arrived. I have always felt heard, seen, respected, and valued here--not simply as a patient or an appointment on a schedule, but as a human being. And there is something else about this practice that deserves special recognition: They do not mess around with patient care, and they do not take shortcuts. Healthcare today places enormous pressures on clinicians through insurance requirements, administrative burdens, time limitations, and standardized approaches. Yet my experience here has been that this physician continues to advocate for what he believes his patients actually need. One of the greatest examples has been my orthotics. In my entire 36 years of life, I had never experienced anyone approach them the way he did. Rather than simply giving me a generic or routine solution, he personally took the time to create true customized molds in person, based specifically on my feet and my individual needs. That level of personalization mattered enormously to me. And remarkably, the care was covered through my medical insurance because this physician understood how to navigate the system while still pursuing what he believed represented appropriate, individualized patient care. That is what medicine should be. He does not appear satisfied simply checking a box. He examines, listens, thinks, individualizes, and treats the person standing in front of him. There is a profound difference between treating a diagnosis and truly caring for the human being who carries it. Northern California Foot & Ankle Center understands that difference. To the entire staff: thank you for every kindness, every phone call, every appointment, every moment of patience, every concern you have listened to, and every time you have made me feel welcome. And to the physician and owner himself, whom I sincerely consider my favorite podiatrist in the world and one of the finest physicians I have ever encountered: Thank you for healing me. Thank you for refusing to settle for mediocrity. Thank you for taking the extra time. Thank you for fighting for individualized patient care even within the realities and pressures of modern medical insurance. Thank you for making me feel heard. Thank you for helping me walk better, feel better, and leave your office with more hope than I entered with. You are a true healer, and I salute you, sir. I pray that God continues to bless you, your family, your staff, and this entire practice with tremendous success for many years to come. May you continue helping countless patients experience the same extraordinary level of care that you have given me. God bless you, Doctor. And God bless Northern California Foot & Ankle Center of Santa Rosa. Five stars simply are not enough.

We were seen by Dr. Tan and he made very little effort to get to know my dad before taking out clippers (which did not come from any kind of a sterile wrapper) and extremely aggressively chopping off big chunks of my dads toenails. My dad was repeatedly saying "ow" because Dr. Tan was hurting him and he made him bleed in both of his big toes even though he knew he's on blood thinners. No antiseptic, no topical pain meds, no warning that it would hurt. His home health nurse was shocked when she saw them. On top of that, he didn't make any effort to file or shape his toe nails (they're just basically clipped in big sharp chunks - see pictures) and essentially told us there's nothing can do to treat the fungus. So we drove an hour there from my dad's house just to have his nails hacked off and not be offered any real solutions (except a cream he said would probably not help) and leave in more pain than he arrived The whole experience was actually shocking and I felt terrible for my elderly dad - his toes are still hurting since yesterday.

I had a very disappointing experience with Sierra Orthopedics in Petaluma…read more When I first called to check on my referral, I spoke with Alicia who pulled it up and told me there were multiple issues with it, that it didn't make sense, and that they would need to contact my doctor's office to have it rewritten. I was given a temporary appointment but was told it could be canceled if the updated referral was not received in time. After not hearing anything, I called the next day for an update. Instead of a simple confirmation, I was told in a very abrupt tone that they would have contacted me if there had been a problem and that they had already received everything they needed. The staff member also commented that they had to stop what they were doing to take my call, which made me feel like I was inconveniencing them simply by following up on my own care. Because of that interaction, I decided to cancel my appointment. I later received a phone call telling me I should not cancel because my referral had a time limit attached to it and that I needed to make another appointment. I l did but then discovered that Hanger Clinic could see me sooner and informed me that my visit would be fully covered, whereas Sierra Orthopedics had indicated there could be out-of-pocket costs. When I called Sierra Orthopedics again to cancel I left a voicemail. I received another call from Alicia in the office in which I was told how much work had been done on my case and that Hanger Clinic was not going to handle it correctly. At that point, I felt more pressured than supported. The brace I ended up getting made at hanger clinic was 100% covered by my insurance was made incredibly and has a great warranty if I ever need anything repaired it's covered. They were also able to use my first referral and had no issues with it. I understand that referrals can be complicated and that staff members are busy, but throughout this process I felt talked down to and pressured rather than treated with patience and professionalism. I ultimately chose to seek care elsewhere.

If I could give this guy a BIG FAT ZERO, I totally would. Negative numbers should even be a choice!…read moreThis is the worst doctor I've ever met. I went in with plantar fasciitis pains/problems on 5/13/15. The entire time I was there was 50 minutes. The front counter was nice enough. But, nothing to write home about. I'd say an average mostly polite check in. The office was clean, I'll give them that. But, it all went downhill from there. Dr. Del Monte checked my foot, had me do some stretches, walking, and poked around. Of course my foot didn't hurt nearly as bad because I had stretched it well prior and well, Murphy's Law. I workout six days a week. He didn't like this. In fact, he told me I would see a lot more results in my life if I ate a vegan diet, and stopped my exercise. He went on to lecture me without stop (even when I tried to interrupt him to explain that I'm educated). My eight year old daughter giggled ENDLESSLY because she's a vegetarian and I have given her the same lecture he gave me several times - on where/how to get protein. He didn't once ask what I eat, or what I knew. She even tried to interrupt and did quietly say a few times that "Mom, you already tell me this all of the time." He ignored her as well. He actually said to me at one point "I've never been as big as you. But, you'll really benefit from a vegan diet." I lost 107 pounds eating right and exercising. He never gave me a chance to even tell my story though. He was too busy obsessing on vegan diets. His recommendations were to bike and do resistance exercises. He told me no squats, no lunges, no calf raises, no jumping, and no running. I've already been modifying these things for some time. He said at one point he didn't even want me walking. Later though, he said hiking on my Costa Rica trip would be just fine as long as I stuck to flat trails. Umm...? Oh, and he told me that most patients coming in just struggling from there daily lives and no exercise. I took two months off in November when I had severely sprained an ankle. I didn't walk on that foot for at least four weeks. Couldn't. Now even my left foot is hurting. It wasn't used (even for exercise for two months). I found him to be completely unprofessionally, rude, and very unhelpful. I not only wasted my time but left in tears. He left me flabbergasted and certain I won't ever be returning to his offices. I've heard of doctors like this but I had never met one until now. I also found out after leaving that a friend of mine once went to him and in the first appointment also decided the same - she would never be returning.

I have worked with Bill for going on 14 years, and he's the only one who's been able to fabricate a functioning, well-made Below-the-Knee prosthetic device for me. There was a period of about 2 years after Bill stopped servicing in San Francisco where I was forced to work with really inept people who left me in horrible pain for the entire 2 years, telling me there was nothing more they could do. After a 3rd failed attempt by the aforementioned inept people, I called Bill, begging for him to help. He went (and drove) out of his way to do so. After looking at my current device, he was able to locate the problem immediately, re-cast me, and fitted me with a socket that relieved me of pain, and cleared up all the breakdowns I had developed from the piece of garbage I had before. I've been a BK amputee for over 2 decades and have many people make sockets for me; I can say without a doubt that Bill Shea has been the best in his field. I've since moved to the East Coast, but Bill still calls to check in on me to see how I am doing. Ultimately, I have always gotten the feeling that Bill really loves what he does and he cares about the quality of my life. Thanks Bill!

Then I met Bill. I have a very unusual alignment, and while other prosthetists tried to force me to walk on a leg that was "bench aligned", Bill listened to me and adjusted my leg to work for me. Bill thought outside the box, never giving up on helping me walk better. Because of Bill I have returned to all of the activities I did before, I've even added a few! Over the years, Bill has become more than just my prosthetist. He has become my friend. He doesn't just work 9 to 5 but is always available day or night if I have an issue with my leg. One day at work, my titanium foot cracked. I couldn't walk on it. My coworker used packing tape to stabilize it so I could finish out my work day. I messaged Bill and he told me to stop by his house on my way home. Bill was at home that day because he was sick, but he didn't hesitate to come to my rescue. He fixed me up so I could walk until he could order a new foot. How many people would have done that? Not any of the doctors or prosthetists I've worked with over the years. I am living a full, productive life as an amputee thanks to Bill Shea.
