I won't give a lower start since they did provide a couple of items that were excellent. First of all, I purchased a bed several months ago and it was incredible. Well worth the 3K. I looked at several other items for months and decided to spend the money and buy a sofa table, end table, and a chest of drawers. Please, read the print. Understand they do not make all a their furniture there. Chests are supplied by a vendor and they only stain then there. Mine came from Vietnam and was only stained in the shop. The stair job was bad. The quality of the chest was something I could have easily bought off of Overstock.com or Wayfair.com. I paid over 1700 for something they never built. The stain is uneven, wood partially in sanded, and a scratch on one side of the dresser. I could have done this type of stain job but for 1700, you are expecting perfection. If my first experience ordering had not gone so well, maybe I would have looked more at the print on the listing. Even though the banner add on their website says all is custom made in the US, that is not the consistent message in the website. Again, the only item I have purchased that I feel is worth the money is the bed. The sofa table was damaged so they are remaking it at no cost. It is still not a 2K table really. Nice craftsmanship but under 1K would make more sense. The end table was 1K and again, nice but 500 or less would be more reasonable. Their resolution to my order is to remake the sofa table at no charge and I can keep the broken one and do with as I wish. The chest, which is the biggest mistake, they will do nothing other than give me a $440 partial refund. For a 1700 item, I would have expected at least 1/2 of a refund. They will not budge. I will say the staff has been pleasant so that helps but all communication has been through email. Still, buyer beware. Read the print under each item. They DO NOT custom make everything. For those prices, I would have expected so much more. There are a few more details to the story but this is the bulk of it. I will not purchase from them again. read more

I ordered a sit to stand desk. It was advertised as free shipping and nowhere was it made clear this was a desk that would have to be assembled upon arrival. After 12 weeks I got shipping notification that indicated it was a heavy crate (250 lbs) that was to be dropped at curbside, opened, signed for and then assembled by myself. I called immediately- they told me I had the option to order white glove delivery for an extra $500- which I didn't do. I didn't even know I needed it?! If I wanted to assemble my furniture- I would have bought it from Ikea or wayfair! The crate was extremely difficult to ripen and required a hammer/ crowbar in addition to the drill. There is no way this can be inspected while the delivery guy waits for you to open curbside and god forbid it rains! They said it would be a simple assembly- wrong. They were missing multiple screws (an F screw, E screw, and ALL the cable clips)-I reached out and they said they would be here next week. I went to the hardware store, so I wouldn't have to wait. Three hours and two attempts later- the desk doesn't rise evenly. I called the next day stating I would pay the fee to have this assembled- they can't help and told me to find a local handyman. This is my "custom" furniture experience. I also have a 150lb crate to dispose of?! Unless you have multiple people and a pick up truck- you are screwed. I thought I was buying custom furniture. The ten-week delivery quote turned out to be exactly accurate. The deliveries were separate - chairs arrived first, with the table a few days later. Chairs were easy to assemble - I had all five done within about 90 minutes and needed no help. The white glove delivery of the table was first rate. The table is like a piece of art, and is impeccably crafted. I ordered a counter height kitchen table and 4 stools 9 months ago in January. 1) The table arrived on time (it was beautiful and only scratched a little, right in the middle where we'd be putting a lazy susan, anyway), but there were no stools. When i called, I didn't mention the table scratch. I just asked about the stools. They said it would be another 6 to 8 weeks and were sorry no one had let us know that. We had to call the neighbors back over to help us move our old furniture back into the kitchen, since we don't own any other counter height chairs. 2) 6 weeks later, two of the 4 stools arrived. Someone had wrapped a couple of layers of cellophane around the tops and bottoms, but there was no packing other than that. Just chairs in cardboard boxes. Needless to say, there were wear marks on them where they'd been rubbing against the box during shipping. The company offered to replace them after blaming the shipping company for the damage and saying the shipping company must have lost the other two stools. Several days later they let me know they found the stools in their warehouse; they had never left the building. I asked the customer service rep if she could ensure that they were better secured in their boxes. She didn't give me a straight answer about that. 3) When the 3rd shipment arrived with the remaining stools, they were packed exactly the same way, and one stool had the same rub marks as the first two did. I called and they said they'd send me 3 replacement stools instead of 2. 4) Received shipment 4 this past week, and not one of the three stools is the same quality as the original ones we recieved. They weren't correctly sanded before being stained, so there are rough patches all over. This time, they tried sending them to me unassembled and they sent them via FedEx instead of the local shipping company, and they even included a few pieces of packing foam, but I don't know why. Since they didn't pack anything snugly, it arrived in a jumbled mess inside the box and there are scratch marks and even a splintered stool leg that I now need to figure out what to do with. For what it's worth, in my 47 years of living, this is one of only two negative reviews I've ever left for a company. We were told to make sure to open the package upon arrival and look at the entire order because if shipping damage was not noted on the shipping invoice there would be no way to have that issue resolved. I wish that I had read reviews before purchasing. I ordered a dinner table in February 2022 and was told it could take up to 10 weeks. After 15 weeks I finally got the table and the leg was cracked and it had lacquer dipping down it. I expected way more for over $3000. They should be embarrassed about the craftsmanship of their product and the way that they are doing business. They will not refund me because they make "custom" products so they expect me to go another 3 months without a table so they can make a new one. Totally unacceptable. read more

The best thing I can say about James + James is, after over $3000 spent on one of their tables, we never have to deal with them again. If this review saves at least one person from ordering from this terrible company, we'll feel that at least some good has come out of the ashes created by J+J's unique assemblage of poor customer service and mediocre craftsmanship. After nearly 10 months and literally endless emails with constantly turning over customer service reps (seriously, for awhile we thought we were getting run through an overseas call center with the continuous rotation of names...) we *finally* received the right mish-mash of parts and pieces to try, with the help of a local carpenter, to salvage this $3500 table. The Cliffs Notes on our endless James+James nightmare: 1. The table arrived *months* after its initial delivery date 2. When it finally arrived, the all-important top of the table (nearly 70" across) was severely and unusably warped 3. James + James has an "all deliveries are final" and "absolutely no refunds" policy, so accordingly, we refused delivery of the warped tabletop 4. When we immediately called J+J to report the warping issue, they then told us we would be liable for any storage fees incurred because we refused delivery (?!?!) 5. They very quickly backpedaled on this when they realized we had taken extensive photos and videos of the warped tabletop during uncrating (even the delivery guys were dismayed about how bad it was) and started construction of a new tabletop 6. This new tabletop took nearly 3 more months (!!) to get to us! Obviously we examined it with a magnifying glass and, while the tabletop passed muster, we then found out the key cross-piece on the base was also warped, and wouldn't secure flush to the tabletop 7. 4 months later, J+J finally shipped this new cross-piece to us (apparently it sat on the dock waiting to be shipped for the better part of two months) The support staff at James and James were always on the defensive, even with our most minor of inquiries. Not one single time did anyone from J+J take the initiative to reach out to us during this near year-long process, or send us a "boy we're sorry for this run of bad luck, lets see what we can do to fix things". Usually such bad customer service would at least be circumvented by some amazing craftsmanship, but all-in-all, this $3500 table is a piece of $h1t for all the trouble it's caused. read more

Don't waste your money. The table was delivered while I was at work. The delivery team did not ask my husband to review the table for any defects, just to "sign the paper". The following day, when I saw that there was splitting of the wood and the apron of the table was not flush I contacted the company immediately. Aside from the apron splitting, the table top sinks down in the middle and is warped. This is on both sides of the table. Making me think that they failed to acclimatize the wood prior to construction. The company claims the table will eventually level out and the apron was damaged in transit. We were instructed to turn the table over and leave it for a handful of days... which we did... and guess what, still wonky. We took several pictures and sent to the company, it is very apparent that the screw head is stripped and there are marks consistent with forcing the screw on the defunct apron corner. We took pictures with a level showing the sagging table top. The company continued to deny that they had any responsibility. Overall- really shoddy workmanship and 4500.00 spent on a table that we will chop up and use as firewood. read more

Customer service has a scrip about natural wood variations to explain large gaps, huge cracks that they refer to as "checks" and knots on the edge of legs leaving an open, rough surface. The furniture arrives in pieces and even with the assistance of a furniture assembler, the benches rock and wobble. They portray themselves as a small American company that stands behind their work, but they don't! They have legally positioned themselves so that you have no recourse if you are not satisfied. This company has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. My experience is not unique, please read their reviews prior to doing business with this company! I ordered the Olivia Dining Table in Harvest Wheat finish on Jan. 3, 2022. At the time of ordering, I was told the table would be completed in 10 weeks or less, which would have been March 14. During this timeframe, I called the company several times to inquire about my order status and each time was assured that it was on track. I called again on March 25 and was told then that the table was completed and would shipped out the first week of April. Then this past Wednesday, I received a very generic email blaming COVID, etc. for another delay, which if they had to make "an educated guess," would mean the table would be available perhaps mid-April, a 50% increase from the original timeframe and counting... I have very little faith the company will actually follow through. Although many places are still experiencing supply chain issues, those issues appear to be getting better, yet it seems James + James's issues are getting worse, suggesting something else is going on. Long story short, I can buy a very similar table from Arhaus that is not only cheaper, it'll probably get to me quicker. Suggest looking elsewhere for quality furniture. read more

I was just browsing to see what other customers had to report about this company and it pretty much lines up with my in laws experience. They just spent $3600 on one of their table, it broke after 3 days and the company refuses to endorse any type of responsibility for it, claiming that they should have noticed the damage before the table broke, and notify the company upon delivery. This isn't technically possible to achieve, they are not clairvoyants. So what are you supposed to do in this case? James + james wants to blame the damage on the shipping company, meanwhile it seems to be a running theme when you purchase from them.. Can only be 3 reasons: - poor packing job - damaged or cheap product - the shipping company sucks so bad that it keeps happening but james + james keeps on using regardless of the issues Technicalities side: customer service and communication is super dismissive... and that's 100% on them. Not a good move for a company that is trying to compete online, where customer service is pretty much everything that will make you chose or dismiss where you purchase. It sucks because my in-laws wanted to help and buy from a small business, but sadly got what you often get from smaller businesses that aren't prepared to lose a bit on their side, to get ahead of the game in terms of customer service. At the expense of the customer, of course. That company doesn't deserve people to buy their products. I'll keep posting this review on every platform possible, including BBB. PLEASE think twice! I made a $5,800 order from James & James (J&J) 8/17/21 with white glove delivery. 12 wks later I called for an update and J&J blamed COVID. On 12/18/21 I asked again and J&J told me my table was done and crated (a lie?). On 1/9/22 I received a congratulatory email from J&J stating my table was finished and would be crated soon. The table was delivered 1/24/22 with the top broken in half (right out of the crate). At this point I asked for a refund and was informed they don't refund for ANY reason - even if they cannot deliver the product ordered. A new table was delivered today (2/24/22). There were no anchors in the table or even markings for the metal legs. J&J reused the original legs but did not have them shipped back to the shop while remaking the table. J&J told me because they only sent out a new table top and not the legs it is not their fault. They stated the shipper would have to drill the table to install the legs. The deliveryman (NOT carpenter) refused. J&J informed me that they are a small business and they cannot be expected to have expended the funds to remake/reship the legs to make sure the holes on the table are correctly drilled. We are at 6.5 months after order and I do not have a table. To be continued I am sure.... read more

BEWARE! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! Go elsewhere. Save yourself the headache and being stuck with an ugly piece! When you spend $2380 for a dining table + another couple thousand for bench and chairs, you expect quality furniture AND customer service they advertise. However, when you get a table with unmarked legs to corners because as they said: "miss on our part" and "oversight on our end and failing to note where each leg fits" you get a wobbly table and/or legs assembled to the table looks off. One leg assembled is flushed to the table whereas the other 3 are off (lowered or above the table) or one leg have a corner sticking up or sunken down. It just doesn't look right. After you get a hold of their Customer Service (they at first are supper nice) but then they change when you start asking for a swap or for correction which they should! In the end they pretty much tell you it's the Customer's problem to deal with. Disassemble and reassemble by GUESSING which legs goes to which corner to make it look right. Even after you've paid for the "white glove install" service, they didn't provide any instructions for the installers to properly install the furniture. Their "resolution" to this problem after numerous emails (which were all initiated by me after leaving many calls) is offering a refund of the install service ($290 + $45 for inconvenience) and telling me to hire someone else to come fix the problem. Wow. Just wow! It's interesting that at first when I asked if the legs and table should be flushed and look correctly installed, they said it should but now she comes back to say it's supposed to have imperfections ONLY after I've tried getting it swapped out with legs properly labeled. Then and only then do you get an email (no longer calls) to say "it's designed to look like that." My very first call with them, I asked if they even assembled before shipping to ensure the legs and table fit correctly AND it did not wobble. The answer from Sarah was they were supposed to do that as standard process. Then why did they not label the legs to the corner if the table was constructed correctly? "They were supposed to do this". Long story short, it has been a ROYAL pain dealing with them and ZERO accountability in trying to resolve due to "their miss" and "their oversight". Oh, not to mention the bench was built incorrectly! Again, proof they did not assemble before shipping. They are actually replacing the bench but ONLY bc in my order I had the correct size selected AND luckily I had an email from Emily (their employee) stating the bench will fit under the table. YET, I got a bench too long. However they had to ask me for measurements of the leg opening. Again, proof they did NOT check their work before shipping to ensure the bench would fit under the table! I sent an email to James because their website states to contact him (owner) to share about our experiences and well, radio silence. Of course! Once they have your money and ship the goods any flaws is YOUR responsibility and zero ownership of their mistake. Take your money and spend elsewhere because what they advertise is not accurate. I now have a piece of dining table where the legs installed looks off AND to try and fix this I have to play guessing game by rearranging the legs. However, the installer did this twice now to prevent the table from wobbling. So I have to either have a wobbling table OR jacked up legs to the table. One more thing, their answer to fix the wobbling is to place a rug under the table. What the heck?! Do not waste your money with them! [UPDATE / EDIT: 9/22/2021] - after posting my review, I received an email response from the owner Mr. James who was very pleasant and acknowledged the mistakes they've made and offered an apology. To resolve these issues since custom tables are non-refundable and no swaps, for all the inconvenience he offered to refund the install fee + 20% of the table cost. The bench is getting rebuilt correctly and will be shipped once completed. I have accepted this and will remove this post once everything is cleared up with my refund and bench. read more

We are so excited about our custom furniture! I always dreamed of a round dining table,but I felt that the standard sizes of 60" or 72" didn't fit our dining room or family. Being able to choose 66" and the stain and the base was great. We also got a new L shape desk for my husband. We could choose the size, stain and placement of the drawer. I'm a professional sculptor, and fully appreciate the craftsmanship of these heirloom quality furniture pieces! I couldn't believe the guys drove our pieces all the way to Houston from Arkansas and assembled them for us right on time. I ordered the Shiloh table in March 2021 for a new home being built. I paid 3610.00 in full. About 12-14 weeks later I recieved word from James and James the table had shipped to our new home in another state. Unfortunately, no one is living in the home yet. although Holly and Sarah said they were working to reroute the table, ultimately I was left to do the legwork to get my table. as a result of the reroute, the table became lost and was not found for several weeks. When the table was found and delivered, it arrived completely broken in two. The enclosed pictures show the glue starved joint and the stain that permiated the seam. Holly and Sarah were very sympathetic while telling me no refunds were possible under any circumstance. They would correct the problem, but needed an additional 10 weeks. I pushed hard for a refund as it was becoming clear this was not a good business relationship, and the inspected table was built poorly. yesterday 12-28-2021, my rebuild arrived and true to form, was badly damaged. While refusing the delivery, the driver told me everyone involved knew the table was damaged, but wanted me to see it. The down side of this conversation was I drove several hours each way to see a damaged product , but no one had the decency to tell me before the actual inspection. I am closing in on a one year anniversary from my order date, and have never actually recieved a table. The compamy position is no refund. I finally received my custom ordered 8 ft solid white oak table 3 days ago. When I ordered this table, I specified I was going for a modern look and would like little to no knots, but if there are some knots, to fill them in, making it smooth. No stain. When I informed the company that their selected shipping company would not allow me to inspect product for any shipping damage as per their instructions, rep at James & James gave me a 4 hr window to notify them of any damage after I was able to inspect. I did exactly that. We unpacked the crate which was not damaged, and set the table up. Knots filled in as specified, no problem there. My issue is there are cracks on one end of the table that are open, and they refuse to fix/repair, or admit as poor workmanship. They keep repeating the knots are natural , I keep saying it's not the knots, I don't have a problem with the knots, it's the cracks on the one edge of the table and one of the legs. Their last corresponding email so far claims that I have "buyers remorse"...they say these cracks are natural imperfections. No where on their website or prior to ordering did anyone ever tell me that my furniture may come with CRACKS on one of the edges, as well as a void in the glued joint lines of one of the legs. As of today, I am still trying to get James and James to make this right. My impression in their communication to me, is they're not going to fix it, and they're hiding behind the vague excuse that everything abnormal in the workmanship of the table "is part of the natural imperfections of wood"..I have only had this table for 3 days. So, in light of my recent experience with this company, I looked back on recent reviews within our purchase timeline and all the stories are very similar. Here's ours: My wife and I were moving to a home on a farm and wanted a quality dining farm table to go into our new home. James+James came up frequently and had great reviews (silly me). They also had wonderful looking products. So, we purchased a table and a set of chairs. Black walnut. We spent over $5000 worth. We had some delay with the table. Not unexpected in September 2021. However, only the table delivers first. This is where the begins. Old Dominion had to meet me on the side of the road with my truck because they could not deliver to the door. They send multiple emails telling you to inspect the product beforehand. However, it was shipped in a plywood box that was drilled shut. I had no tools. So, it was stuck in the back of my truck on the side of the road. I signed nothing but the driver said he would handle everything. Very strange. I get the crate open a day later to find a small puncture in the crate from a forklift that drove a 1.5 inch chunk out of the center of the table top that is 1.75 in think. I immediately contact customer service. The response is "it appears this was damaged in shipping", "we assure you this was not how it left our factory", "nothing we can do", "sanding it down will be fine", "we cannot accept a return". I even offered to pay them to have it repaired. The same answer "nothing we can do" and "seek local help". But the chairs! We received multiple emails after multiple months of attempting to reconcile the table that the chairs were delayed. The answer was repeated. Each month. We waited September until March. When I received an e-mail saying late April/early May, requested cancellation. Suddenly, the chairs were in-house, being stained, and the order could not be cancelled. Very suspicious activity. I informed them I would not be accepting the order. Further action will likely be needed. STAY AWAY! read more

I should have done more research prior to purchasing a bed for over $3000.00. Design is good, quality and durability is not. Bed came broken/cracked. The headboard shakes, the bed squeaks, the finish is not good. The top of the headboard and footrail have little to no poly on them making a microfiber cloth stick and fray when trying to dust it. For 3k, you would expect a solid well finished product. Now, if they don't want to poly the back of the headboard that is reasonable, but the front, top and sides is a must. The brackets that hold the rails are very cheap. With such large legs, the wooden rails could have been made with reinforcement and larger cast iron brackets could have been used, creating a more durable frame. This is not an AMISH MADE quality bed but has a price tag like it is. Save your time, energies and money and buy a quality piece of furniture like a Yutzy. Now, having not ordered any other products like tables or chairs from this company, I can not attest to the quality of those, however as far as the bed, again, the quality and finish is not there. Also, you screw 2x4's to the bedframe as a platform (slats), which creates screw holes and the boards themselves were not consistently the same size (length). In fact, several were at least 1" to 2" too short. They could use a better, smaller(flatter) board in a cast iron slat holder like that of Yutzy's products. Overall, very disappointed in the quality. BUYERS STAY AWAY! we made the mistake to spend $7k on a dining table and chairs. We were promised a 12-14 week wait time, it took 20+ weeks to received a damaged table with scratches dents, broken legs, etc. We paid for white glove delivery which was a joke, the delivery company came in an SUV and the furniture had no protection at all. The delivery came with just the top and they delivered the broken legs the day after. I was promised a new table just to learn that it might take 6+ weeks to get it, which at this point we know its probably going to be more than that. We simply cannot keep waiting on when this company decides to ship us a table that was placed and paid for back in March. The week after we received the chairs, which are horrible, they look painted and not stained. They are not smooth, your clothes snag on them, and the worse is that they do not seem to have any type if protection or polyurethane on them. Chairs look dull and matte, unfinished, just horribly quality. We have requested a refund, or will dispute the transaction with our credit card company. We will not be accepting any products from them. I cant keep waiting on a table forever and the chairs are absolutely horrible. Stick to your local furniture store, or the other retailers. I ordered a table which took over three months to get. This was OK because I kind of planned on it. When the table arrived, it was damaged. This was noted on my delivery slip and James and James was contacted right away. They offered to give me $400, so that I could have the table repaired myself. Which I thought was unrealistic given the fact it shouldn't be my responsibility to repair this. Long story short, they sent the freight company back out to pick up the table to have it repaired. I was told at the time it was picked up That it would take 2 to 3 weeks to repair. It has been five weeks so far. I keep having to check in with them because no one keeps me up-to-date as to what's going on. Now I'm being told it's going to be another week or so, so three months to get a tableand three months to get it repaired?? Really disappointed in the service and very disappointed in the companies Willingness to take responsibility or to expedite the process. Had two separate orders with James + James, the first to get the chairs for the set my wife was looking at for a while, and then the following year we ordered the table and bench. James and his crew were very helpful and even though their carrier service broke the bench that came in the set and they didn't necessarily have to at this point, James worked with us on getting a replacement. I would caution those using ODFL to have their table delivered, please follow the instructions and evaluate your parcel prior to signing and save yourself the heartache of signing for a broken package like I did. I'm not one to ever leave reviews, but we were so disappointed in our table that we waited forever for. the wood is warped, the bench is wobbly, and there are big circular marks all over the table that looks like a wood press or something that left marks. so sad. read more

Design of furniture is fine but quality of paint / finish is poor... buyer beware. Outdoor furniture will not last....Paint will chip off

I was searching for a desk for my office, and looked all over for a few months. I wanted something industrial and something that would stand out in the room as a centerpiece. I had an ad come up during my search that showed the James "steel and wood corner desk". I loved the look and tried to find something like it locally, as I had never bought furniture online without seeing in person. Of course I didn't find it and decided to take the risk and order online without ever seeing it first hand. This was a good choice. The entire process was fantastic. They were friendly, answered all my questions the multiple times I called and emailed. As I was looking through the site, I also decided on the "steel and wood shelving unit" to match. These pieces match perfectly. I did the tobacco finish on the desk, and the dark walnut on the shelf and they are perfect. They do the home delivery personally. I think they travel most places around and will make a specific trip to deliver to your house, put it in the room and everything. They guys were awesome! The pictures of the room don't do it justice. It looks truly amazing in the room. I will definitely buy from them again. This is quality furniture, and I would not hesitate! read more

Awful! The whole process. Waited 7 + months for a table and chairs, which are still not correct. The table has a huge seem running down the center, which they say is "character" instead of sub-par craftsmanship. The chairs are wobbly and the customer serves recommended we level them ourselves. The Customer serve is non responsive and not helpful. I would have never have ordered from here had I known this would be the outcome. Save yourself months of headache and purchase your furniture somewhere else. read more

I had a similar experience to many of the other 1-star reviews. I ordered a bed in July 2021 and it took until February 2022 to end my painful relationship with James+James. Lots of stress and time wasted between damaged deliveries, wrong items, and long periods of no communication. But fortunately I got my money back when the bank sided with me on the chargeback. read more

Our Signature live edge table was delivered a couple of weeks ago and it is just stunning. I couldn't be happier with it. When the table my son ordered was delivered, the delivery truck stopped in the middle of the narrow busy one-way street in front of our house, unloaded the table onto the street, and required my son to inspect the table right in the middle of the street (they wouldn't move the furniture into the house). Traffic was blocked completely, no cars cannot pass, blocked drivers became upset and gestured in an obscene manner, the table was heavily shrink-wrapped that would take a lot of time to unwrap and also made the piece appear to be well-protected, and the delivery people kept pressing my son to sign off the delivery quickly. Under duress and pressure, my son had to sign the delivery papers to let the delivery truck go. It then took my son about a hour to remove all the layers of shrink wrap before he saw that the table was seriously damaged.  It would be impossible to complete such inspection while the delivery truck was there blocking the street! James and James, not us, selected the delivery company and services. We emailed and called James and James, but they refused to do anything to remedy the situation, showed no sympathy at all, and just blamed my son for signing the delivery papers. We are extremely disappointed that James and James didn't live up to the promise on their website (note especially bullet #2 below): "We believe craftspeople should stand behind their products. We also know buying furniture online can seem scary. That's why we always promise: 1. If your furniture isn't built the color, size, style etc. that you ordered, we'll fix or replace it. 2. If your furniture arrives damaged, we'll fix or replace it." We ordered the furniture from James and James trusting that they would keep their promises. I was so excited to receive new dining set and barstools. It was quite pricey but loved the wood and designs available. Needless to say we still don't have all the pieces. The first delivery company was so rude they left with pieces in our entryway. Supposed to arrive at four they came at eight at night and at 11 we had to ask them to leave. So they got a couple weeks later someone else to put the pieces together and we were missing the chair seat hardware spindles whole bunch of items. Would not give us much of an adjustment to say the least. So needless to say more months later we have now received the seat the chair seat the spindles and I specifically requested the hardware. No hardware was received so I still have these pieces of chair in my entry and cannot put them together. I do not recommend this company at all. They don't seem to care about any inconvenience or any monetary discount. I requested a seat for the chair, spindles and hardware in July 2. Still nothing right. I would be embarrassed if I were them and do anything I could to make me a happy customer. I understand things are delayed with Covid and I was very patient but now I've had it. I was excited to order a new kitchen table with 4 chairs and 3 counter stools in April of 2021. I paid extra for the "white glove delivery" since I live alone and would need help with delivery and assembly. When the day finally came to deliver my furniture, I received the table and the delivery guys did not know how to assemble the chairs and broke some of the legs and could not find the stools. After much back and forth between Emilee and the delivery company, they finally scheduled another delivery date and instead of showing up within the window of time, showed up at 9pm without any tools to assemble the chairs. I did finally get the stools! The delivery guys were intimidating, asking me if I lived alone and I received numerous complaints from neighbors regarding their aggressive driving of a box truck in the neighborhood. More back and forth and the owner of the delivery company came to assemble the chairs but could only assemble 2 of them due to missing parts. On 9/7, Emilee ordered the replacement parts and promised approximately 4 week delivery. Here it is late October and the update is that they are still waiting for their 3rd party supplier to ship the parts. The holidays are coming and I still don't have 2 functioning chairs. I have to say I really like the furniture and Emilee has been very nice to deal with but it is all fluff. Any other company would have just shipped new chairs and resolved the issue. I would not purchase this furniture unless you are local and can inspect, pick-up and assemble the furniture yourself. I'm not one for bad reviews but this is going on 6 months of frustration. Not to mention that when I get the parts for the chair I will still need to see if the delivery company will actually assemble them or hire some to do it for me. They did reimburse the delivery charge but that is the only resolution I have received to date. After reading the other reviews it sounds like I am not alone. I don't understand why they would not want to satisfy customers who spend many thousands of dollars with them and are willing to continue to have these problems. read more

Good furniture if you're willing to be repeatedly disappointed by the service. I ordered both a desk and a dining table/chairs set from James and James. When it arrived, it proved to be well made furniture that I'm sure I'll generally enjoy having in my home. The company is really fantastic with their pre-sales processes. Their website is informative (though not entirely honest) and easy to navigate. Ordering is easy. But once they have your money, things fall apart. Their website states "Typically, furniture is ready for shipment in approx. 10 weeks" and "to-date all orders have been filled and are expected to be filled within the typical turnaround time." But this isn't true. The desk took approximately 16 weeks and the chairs for the dining table took approximately 14 weeks. In both cases, no one contacted me to let me know things were going to be delayed. When I made the effort to ask, they were evasive. When I pressed, they gave me estimates which proved to me inaccurate. They consistently over-promise and under-deliver. I have furniture on order from other companies which I've been waiting on for more than six months. But a) they set expectations when I ordered and b) they've proactively communicated with me when they realized they weren't going to be able to deliver as previously promised. And that's enough for me. I don't think my expectations about proactive communication and more accurate estimates are unreasonable - I mean, they have the information to know these things, right? If all else fails, lie to me and tell me it's going to be terribly long and then surprise me by sending it earlier. Instead, when I'd inquire, I was either told, "well, we don't know but we'll let you know when it ships." And when I pressed, I'd get an email explaining that they understood I was frustrated and that they were refunding a portion of the purchase price. I was never unhappy with their prices. I never asked for money to be refunded. I didn't want money, I wanted to know when I'd receive the items I purchased. More than four weeks ago, I was told the dining room chairs would arrive (several weeks after the table did) and I was told to expect them to ship in 2-3 weeks. Well, when they didn't show up and I again heard nothing, I sent an email. I was then told that they had shipped and that an email had been sent to me with that information - but there was no such email. When I asked that another be sent and was assured it would be, it never came (and yes, of course, I checked my spam/junk folders). Finally, a note about the furniture. I love the desk. Yes, the drawer came damaged and they had to send me another. But they did that and, despite having paid extra for "white glove" assembly services, I was able to put it on. The dining table, however, is embarrassing. One of the delightful things about James and James furniture is the rustic look. That includes slight imperfections that are completely natural to wood. It even includes knotholes. You have the option of having those knotholes filled or not filled and I chose filled (for both the desk and the table). I chose the same finish for both the desk and the table. But, though the knotholes were filled with a fine-looking dark filler for the desk, they were filled with an entirely different color filler for the table. So, that filler really sticks out like a sore thumb. But, despite my expectation that they'd produce truly great looking furniture, I don't see anything on their website that indicates that this is something they'll back. So, I'm stuck with it. I figure that a combination of lower lighting and tablecloths will suffice until I replace the table with one made elsewhere. So, be careful. You might be thrilled like many of the other reviewers. You might get something as great as my desk. Or you might get something like our dining room table. Maybe, by some miracle, you'll also get your furniture when they say you will. But I wouldn't count on that. read more

Absolutely horrible customer relations. I ordered a farmhouse table. Table arrived in a timely fashion and the delivery crew was amazing. The table top had bubbles that looked like drops of polyurethane or putty that were simply stained over. I was told these were the "charm of the table" and all tables had these. After research, talking to and visualizing many other James and James tables, I found no other table tops with this problem. It clearly a workmanship issue. The director of customer relations is not helpful and unwilling to do the right thing. Beware before buying if there are issues, you will get no service. read more

When it arrived - I inspected the packaging like they warn you 100 times.
