If you do not object on principle to spending $8 for a jar of jam, you really should buy this guy's jam.

I always loved to go to Charlottesville City Market when I lived in Charlottesville, and come back…read moreall the way from D.C. every once in a while specifically for a few businesses. One that I want to highlight and isn't on Yelp by itself unfortunately is Sweet Jane's Kitchen Maryland Style Crab Cakes. They don't have a brick and mortar but she is always there every Saturday the Market is open from 9am-1pm. Since moving from FL I have never had a single good crab cake in all of VA...UNTIL I tried Jane's crab cakes. They are all of what a good crab cake has to offer: A large thick patty mostly consisting of super fresh crab and garnished with delicious spices and only small amount of filler. Their homemade sauce is perfectly zesty and pairs well with the crab cake and bun; I always get extra. To top it off the owner is always very kind and runs it with her family. Other than this one there is a flower shop that carries my favorite celosia flowers and my favorite caromont farm goat cheese. They have a wonderful variety of other unique shops and delicious food vendors to try. I highly recommend Jane's crabcakes and the Charlottesville City Market in general, so much that I am willing to travel almost 2 hours to get there. Honestly the best green market I've been to in VA.

It's dog friendly so we recently brought our pup. Just be aware this is a busy market with lots of dogs in general, which did get overwhelming for her after a bit. One of my favorite weekend stops!

One of my favorite places to visit! Such a beautiful setting to enjoy a cup or cone - and a great spot for berry picking too! This review is for picking your own strawberries…read more *No reservations needed, even during COVID times, which was a relief especially since I hadn't planned this activity. I had just driven by the farm with their giant "pick your own strawberries" sign, and decided to do this in between wine/beer tastings along Nelson 151. *Pick your own strawberries for $3.49 a pound. Apparently you can bring your own container for picking, but they do provide white buckets. *I picked strawberries from Patch #1 which faces the road, but there's more patches in the back, which I wish I'd checked out, because I suspect a lot of people go to Patch #1. So I'd encourage you to be aware of Patches #2-6. *There are portapotties and an outdoor sink set up with soap and paper towels. *They have a small market with some McCutcheon products, strawberries for sale, asparagus, and ice cream in pints. I had a cup of their delicious strawberry ice cream afterward. There are picnic tables scattered under tents where you can enjoy your ice cream (much appreciated shade after strawberry picking under the hot sun).

I love a good farmer's market. Honestly, I love any farmer's market because how can there be a bad…read moreone? You got produce-coffee-homemade crafts? I'm all in. And this first visit happened to coincide with my first time in Harrisonburg. The morning was cool, but not yet cold and the sun was unbridled by clouds. I could hear the sounds of people and caught the aroma of baked bread before I saw the rows of tables and tents. As fate would so favor me yet again, my first stop was a dog-centric vendor. Homemade treats, bandanas, and outfits. But that day I left with a JMU poop bag holder (have to represent for the family). Vendors ranged from bread to pastries to canned goods to locally grown apples (you know I got a couple of bags of those). At every table I found a friendly face at the helm. They were having a great time being there and so was I. Before it was all said and done I had so much stuff it required me returning to the hotel room and offloading before continuing the morning. I will also mention there was live music and some face painting occurring that day. Just a fun, relaxing, and perfect way to begin your Saturday. *During certain times of the year they have a Tuesday evening market in addition to the Saturday market.
