Vastly underwhelmed by this overpriced Indian which we visited on personal recommendation having just moved to the city. We usually visit an Indian once a week and were looking forward to making this our new local, but the surly service and mediocre portions really turned us off. Apart from the fact that the none of the cheaper wines on the winelist were available, we resented paying premium prices for rice portions which were half the size of those served anywhere else, and when every member of the party has to buy two, it gets very expensive no matter what the menu prices say. When we complained about the miniscule portions the waiter just laughed and said it was 'inflation' and that was the usual size they served. The promised 'discount' in response to our comment never materialised on the bill, and that, together with the fact that the 'small' bottle of sparkling water we ordered (and were promised) turned out to be an overpriced litre sized bottle made us feel a little cheated and gave us the sense that we were being done over. No wonder we were the only diners in what should be a thriving restaurant at 9pm in the evening and could hear the waiter telling takeaway callers on the phone that there would be a special offer and reduced prices on the menu next month. If only they looked after their in-house diners better they might not need the special offers!. All in all, we felt slightly ripped off and cross at the obvious cynicism of the staff who knew full well what they were doing but probably thought we were gullible tourists as my partner is French. Such a shame, as they have lost what could have been very valuable and regular customers through what the French call a 'mesquin' (or 'tight') attitude and unapologetic bravado in the face of justifiable dissatisfaction. No tip and no chance of us returning unless we hear that they are under new management! read more
