This is the 2nd time I have been to The Ambrette and im just as impressed as I was the first time. The contemporary twist on the Indian is performed excellently: flavours, presentation and cuisine are of the highest standards and despite not leaving as full as I do from my regular tandoori the contrast is a fantastic change and goes to show just how versatile Indian food can be. Im a big fan of this little restaurant it really stands apart from the rest in the area and the lunch special offer was fantastic value. Cant recommend highly enough read more

If you're after a post pub Chicken Tikka Masala, forget it. There's no cury on the menu. Nor popadums. Formerly The Indian Princess, The Ambrette is probably one of the top six fine dining India restaurants in the country. That it remains in Margate is a mystery. That it features in the 2010 Michelin Guide, is not. The menu is short and eclectic, serving mostly local produce - including pork, game and seafood. Though there are often more exotic items to be found, such is zebra or crocodlile. Chef Dev Biswal is something of a local celebrity and immensely talented. His dishes are works of art, and as pleasing to the palete as they are to the eye. Lightly spriced with a mix or flavours, colours and textures on each plate. Ask for the £40 tasting menu - even when it's not on offer. I can't recommend it highly enough. read more

The sort, daily changing menu if a micx of locally souced ingredients, such a wild rabbit and the more exptic - juicy fresh water Nile Perch. Deserving of it's Michlin Guide inclusion. read more

Absolutely fantastic. Each dish, from the welcome drink and pre-starter to the last bite of dessert was a work of art for both the eyes and the taste buds. We popped in for lunch on the 12th March. I had the set lunch menu and it was all amazing. From the trio of vegetarian street food starters, to the amazing melt in the mouth pork belly biryani, to the fantastic praline and chocolate tart with brandy and vanilla cream it was all outstanding. The Ambrette always performs beautifully, in presentation, their food and service so I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever in that respect. Every time we have dined at The Ambrette it is more like an experience than just a standard meal out which I believe should apply to any meal you have out at a restaurant. The Ambrette has very cleverly executed a menu full of choice, flavours and textures that I think would appeal to a vast majority of people and I am glad to see it gaining it's rightful positive recognition and growing to now include one third restaurant in Canterbury. One point I would make is that I would love to see The Ambrette introduce some new items into it's main menu. I am aware that it puts on Taster Nights and Exotic Special menus once in a while but having now been to the Ambrette probably about 8 times, I have now eaten everything off the menu and would like to try something new! Despite this, I would like to congratulate The Ambrette on a wonderful service and perfect dining experience. read more

Had the tasting menu with wine pairing last night, and a couple of the dishes were nice. A lot of it was boring or similar flavours and sauces. The wine was passable; nothing special. Wouldn't dine there again, as I felt it wasn't worth £150 for two people. Wouldn't go back even if it were cheap, actually. read more

What a surprising Indian restaurant to stumble upon in Margate; The weekday lunchtime was quiet, only one other party eating, so it was a quiet eating experience but none the worse for that. The food was a delight; from the welcome appetisers, through to the exceptional sea bream kedgeree. The menu is full of surprises- no kormas or tikka masalas, although the chef does serve samosas- but they are a dessert filled with chocolate. Quite simply, You don't know what you're missing if you haven't tried this restaurant. The food and presentation is worthy of a Michelin Star - (Which Dev Biswal has!) The parking area is adequate and 'off street' however spaces are limited. Delightful restaurant. Exotic and creative India fusion restaurant. Menu choices are accurately described with the beautiful ingredients. Service was fantastic. We were given a small appetizer, a small cup of soup, and a refreshing mango ice compliments of the house. A must place to visit again when we return to Margate. read more
