Everything I've tried in Chaco so far has been very good!! My husband loves the food here and so does my son and his fiancé. There's a good amount of seating and if you want a nice quieter corner, those are available as well. Service has always been great too. I would highly recommend them!

Back again with a different set of friends. Another great experience with service & beautiful tasty food! Ordered a variety of foods. Everyone liked their choices. There was plenty to take home. Very generous portions on the bento boxes & hibachi dishes. We will be back to have more fun and try more items.

Orange ceviche appetizer, ordered it as my entree with a side of wonton chips. My favorite!

Haven't updated my review of Jaku North in years; definitely past due. This place consistently delivers fresh flavorful food, so I had to increase my previous review from a 4 to a 5 because that kind of time after time quality is hard to do. Had my favorite item the orange ceviche and it was just as beautiful, fresh, wonderful variety of ingredients as always. I always order a side of wonton chips to eat it with, just yum!

I've always loved Jaku as they have one of my favorite sushi rolls (the Crunch Munch 2) but it had been a long time since I'd visited either of their locations. I'm glad Nate and I stopped in recently because it was just as good as I remembered! Their dining area is a little small but we got a table right away. The low lighting and cozy seating is nice. It was a little bit warm in the restaurant (it had been a super hot week) but not too bad. The menu is huge with lots of options - sushi rolls, Korean dishes, sushi burritos, hibachi entrees, etc. We got the kosho appetizer, crunch munch 2, yellowpeno, spicy salmon, spicy scallop, and salmon sashimi. Everything came out at once except for the sashimi which was forgotten about for a bit. The kosho appetizer was something we hadn't tried before and it was so delicious. It's a jalapeno pepper stuffed with cream cheese and spicy tuna then coated and deep fried. It was a big dish with 8 pieces and was great to split between two people. I'll order this every time, the creaminess and bit of kick was so good, like the best jalapeno popper I've ever had. The rolls were all very good, the crunch munch 2 is still one of my favorites. It's just super flavorful with the sauces. The yellowpeno was my least favorite, it just didn't have a lot of flavor. The salmon sashimi was buttery and delicious as always, and more affordable than other spots at only $3 per portion. Our server was really efficient and kind and apologized about the delayed delivery of the salmon sashimi (which was totally okay). The vibe makes it great for a date night and they do serve alcohol so you can enjoy a drink with dinner.

can't stop talking about how good this meal was... seriously... i said it to my partner 3 times after dinner. the sushi was great. i was debating trying a new spot or sticking with one i've had before and am so glad we tried jaku. we're vegan so im always looking for the stellar veggie options. jaku had the standard vegetable variety. as long as there is a sweet potato roll on the menu i'm in. tempura is typically not vegan but i like to live a little We got a large house salad with extra ginger dressing, 2 sweet potato rolls, 1 mixed veggie roll, 1 avocado and cumber roll, and my partner decided to treat himself to a shrimp tempura roll. everything was delicious. i'm so glad we tried jaku.

I can see why this place has such amazing reviews. We came on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. We sat at the sushi bar. We started with an appetizer, Kosho Tempura (Deep Fried Stuffed Jalapeño) Deep fried stuffed jalapeño w/ spicy tuna and cream cheese in it. It was delicious and pretty filling! I ordered two sushi rolls and was not able to finish them after the huge appetizer. Between me and my husband, we had four rolls. They were all superb! My favorite was: Angel Roll - Tuna, shrimp, crab stick, masago, avocado, cucumber. Wrapped with rice paper. Eel sauce and wasabi sauce on top. Overall, I would highly recommend this place! The restaurant is small and not a ton of seating but there are tables outside! Our server was very attentive and nice!

Spicy Edamame and Almond Joy Roll
    Perry B.

We ordered the spicy edamame (think garlicy and dusted with red pepper flakes) and tried out the Almond Joy roll. I was very skeptical to begin with, as I generally don't enjoy cooked sushi of any kind. The salmon sashimi is lightly torched, not deep fried; it's essentially a familiar california roll with the crunch of asparagus and cradled in lightly torched salmon sashimi. The best part and most distinguishing feature? It's topped with sliced almonds, amongst tobiko, masago and green onions, and sweet miso sauce to deliver a rare flavor. Our server was attentive and kept water replenished. The ambiance is the perfect setting for a date, and the menu offers a wide selection of asian cuisine with good variety for different taste preferences.

Really loved this place! Kids loved the bento box and I loved my sushi orders. The ceviche was great- it had a nice freshness and the combination of everything in it just worked. However a little salt brought all the flavors out even more. My chirashi bowl had a generous helping of fish to where I almost couldn't finish it (I usually finish all my fish, but in this case I think I left one or 2). Would def come back!

Made a quick lunch stop at Jaku Sushi today! They don't lie, they really are the best sushi in town We got seated right away and service was quick and helpful, perfect for a lunch break! We started with the gyoza, which was perfect! The dumplings were delicious, and the sauce was the perfect complement. I has the crunch munch roll (only half is pictured-whoops ). As somewhat of a sushi novice, I didn't really know what I was ordering, but I loved it! I also tried the Michigan roll (not pictured unless you look reallyyy hard in the background ). The Michigan roll was probably my favorite! So much cream cheese goodness

I cannot believe I've never been to either of the Jaku locations until today. To say I was blown away is an understatement. I really cannot say I'm a sushi expert or aficionado except I can say without reservation I love sushi and really should make an effort to have it more often than maybe once a month or so. We arrived at Jaku North at noon and were seated quickly by our server. We took a while to peruse the menu as we have never been here. Besides the usual and speciality rolls, the menu was extensive with hibachi, bibimbap, bento boxes, etc. I've never seen or heard of a sushi burrito. There were several on this menu that definitely will be sampled on future visits. The whole menu reminds me of the "wall of bourbons" you see in many bars. You want to try all of them. That is the case here. We started with the gyoza. Many times this item is overcooked leaving a crunchy, flavorless exterior than drowns out what was also overcooked inside. Not here. These dumplings were perfectly prepared and merely held the insides together which burst with flavor. We also ordered a spicy tuna roll along with a jumbo spider roll. Both were better than excellent-I'd say outstanding. Service was attentive as well. Better late than never-glad we tried Jaku North.

    Fire Crunch Burrito

Mmmm I love love love the sushi burritos here at Jaku! I have yet to find another place in Grand Rapids that sells these! You get a large sushi burrito for a reasonable price, I can normally split this up between two meals if I'm ordering out. I have dined in once as well, and the restaurant is very clean and the service is extremely efficient. My dad and I showed up after work and we were so ready to eat, and our apps and entrees were served within minutes! My favorite sushi burrito is pictured here - the Fire Crunch burrito!

    Kosho - delicious, would recommend
    Letitia J.

This was a pleasant surprise! I am always on the hunt for good Asian food in GR, and am always happy when I do discover one. The ambience of Jaku North was super cute - I loved the layout of this small restaurant. The place was pretty clean. We got the Ton Katsu Bento, Kosho, and Bibimbap in which all I would recommend. Ton Katsu Bento ($17)- it came with miso soup, some shrimp tampura, fried pork, white rice, and Edamame. I've had softer pork - this was more on the dry side but could be remedied by the side sauce. Other than that, everything was really good. I LOVE bento boxes. Kosho ($9)- this was a shareable dish - very generous side! It was a unique dish. I loved how the cream cheese and tuna with jalapeño worked together. I was hoping it would be more spicy, but it's ok! In fact, I don't recall even getting some sort of a kick, but maybe others will feel it. Bibimbap ($17)- it was really good. Again, generous portion in which I felt matched the price tag on it. The sauce gave a really nice kick to it. The beef was soft and delicious. Would highly recommend! The waiter was wonderful. He was so nice and patient with us. It just felt like a great vibe all around. 5/5 for service, definitely!

I started by grilling the vegetables because they take the longest. I suggest a julienne cut on the peppers as the large chunks are difficult to cook. This would be better for the onions as well. The meats didn't take long at all, chicken obviously took the longest. The beef bulgogi is marinated and has a beautiful flavor. I recommend using the lettuce to make it all into a lettuce wrap and just going into your sauce like a dip. This was so mouth watering yummy!! I am so glad we came and I can't wait to come back! I went with the buldak (spicy chicken stir fry with cheese) and Nate got the dolsot bibimbap with spicy pork. We also had some appetizers to share - the fried dumplings and shumai. I loved the dumplings. They were super crispy and the filling was savory and tasty. The shumai were okay and cooked nicely, just not a ton of flavor for me. I was really happy with the buldak. The chicken was tender, it had plenty of melty cheese, and it wasn't super spicy. I've made this dish at home and you can definitely make it super hot! Nate and I both agreed that we liked the buldak better than the bibimbap. There is plenty of parking as Emonae is in a strip mall with some other restaurants.
