I'd really like to find a place in the Garden City / Bear Lake valley that is just "wow" ! This isn't it. Cool vibe, lots of seating, great parking. The food, however, was nothing spectacular or even really good. It was "meh" at best. I ordered the bacon cheese burger. Small, frozen patty, 1/2 a piece of something that resembled cheese, and 1 piece of see-through-thin bacon. The fries were cold and mushy. The wife had a shake that was decent. Smaller than those stirred down the road for about the same price, but decent. I don't have high expectations for beach / resort type towns and restaurants but it should be better than this. read more

We got a pulled pork burger that was good, and cheese fries . They kind of skimped out on the cheese which was disappointing. Aesthetically, this place looked cute. The food was good too. It's a shame though because....Beware beware the TERRIBLE, mean, and slow service. We waited 45 minutes for our food, and they didn't even go in order! They just prioritized the customer complaining the most. I should've consulted Yelp before eating here. Definitely 2 stars, maybe 2.5. We ordered the loaded fries with pulled pork and they were ok. Came out kind of warm. There are tons of places to choose from when eating in Garden City. Why not try Jake's Place? It's the newest eatery which opened in May of 2012. Instead of greasy burgers you can get fresh sandwiches made with bread from Old Grist Mill. There are pulled pork,beef brisket, roast beef, and grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. They feature Week's family jam which you can simply have on a slice of bread. And of course they have a variety of berry shakes to choose from. Service is a little slow when it is busy but it's worth the wait. I do have issues with their menu prices. I ordered a shake combo special but it only applies to the regular. I tried to upgrade the combo to the large. The large shake is only 35 cents more but if you get the large cob it's a whole dollar more. It doesn't make sense. read more

I didn't grow up in the Utah area, I only recently moved here in the last couple years. I rely on people who have grown up here to recommend places to me and with our relatively new tradition of going up to Bear Lake for a day at roughly the same time each year...I kept hearing the family and friends rave about Raspberry shakes. We heard Jake's was the place to go. We show up to Jake's and the line is huge and I take this as a good sign. I see they have Angus burgers, chicken tenders, fries, and of course the shakes I've heard of. We get in line and I'm considering what I'd like to eat with my shake. A half hour goes by and we're still in line. We're hitting the hour mark and we're just getting to the front of the line. From everything I've observed I can tell the fault is more on the service end than on whoever does the food prep in the back. One window to take orders, two people to run them out, and seemingly little to no organization. Everyone I see working here during my wait looks like they're 16 or younger. At this point I don't want to add more wait time, I decide against getting any food at all and just stick with shakes for the family. We finally get to order and once we do it actually doesn't take long to get the shakes, though each of us got our shakes one at a time which seemed strange to me. I paid just for the immediate family. We got a large chocolate raspberry, a regular pineapple raspberry, and a kid's size raspberry for my daughter. It came out to about 14 bucks and they were all terrible. The chocolate shake didn't taste like a shake so much as melted ice cream with raspberry seeds. It was bland and crunchy. The pineapple one was better which is weird because I don't like pineapple. And my daughter, who loves ice cream, shakes, raspberries and every permutation of the three didn't finish her kid's size (which is REALLY small) raspberry shake. She didn't care for it at all. It goes without saying my wife and I didn't finish ours either. Literally no one in the family saw any merit in the over priced shakes we waited an hour for. Terrible experience. Worst part of the whole trip to Bear Lake. By all rights I see no reason why this place is even in business when I take my own experience and compare it with the other reviews I see here. No, no, no and NO! Has potential. Great location and ambience. However, when a business is run by poorly trained teenagers, it's doomed! The staff didn't know which way was up and couldn't make common sense decisions. First, knowing where and how to order was confusing. I went to the window that said ORDER HERE. As I stood there waiting for someone to show themselves behind the window, an employee stood behind an adjacent counter staring at us. After a couple of minutes passed, I asked her if I was in the right place to order. She stated that if I wanted to order with her, she could seat us and give us menus. Ummmm, ok. This was the first of four crazy occurrences I thought only happened in sitcoms. SMH! The food: terrible. I don't think they have changed their grease since ???? Or, they are frying fish in the same car as fries and such. The buns weren't buttered and toasted; ketchup was slathered all over the bun; my daughter's grilled cheese was rubbery with no flavor. We checked Yelp, as we usually do when traveling through cities we haven't been to before. We had three families, went there last Friday the 13th. For just about every family before the total bill was about $40-$45. The lady who took our order at the window must've scratched out the ticket three or four times because she obviously had some problems writing down the order. The food was absolutely ridiculous. Look like a bunch of eighth-graders cooked it. Here's what we got that really was not good in any way shape or form. One of the hamburgers was very very undercooked. Another one of the hamburgers was burnt all around the edges pretty bad. One of the buns on the hamburger was almost black from being burned. Out of six sandwiches as I'm looking at them right now have to send pieces of meat in them. We could taste the bread quite a bit more than we could taste any meat. I'm looking at a turkey, pastrami, and ham. All three the sandwiches meat is very hard, similar to cardboard. We waited for about 15 minutes each to cook us just a simple meal. We do not try the shakes so I have no feedback although I hear they're pretty good. But as for lunch or dinner, I would never, ever recommend this to anybody or any family. Just a bad experience overall for all three of the families that went there with us. Save the money go somewhere else. As an example we spent almost $42 for three sandwiches and two corndogs for my family, plus drinks. For the same price we could've went and bought four beautiful steaks and easily cook them much better. read more

I like the ambiance of Jake's Place. This place has a cute open eating area with plenty of seats. The overhead patio lights are very cute and overall this place is set for success. The shakes that they made our party were delicious. The shakes that were made, were not made correctly, albeit they were delicious. The errors that were made were in lieu of recently trained staff and what would appear to be a "long night." After the mix up, the manager was kind enough to rectify the errors that had been made and remade the shakes, and eventually got everything right. Pretty good experience!!! This place is situated in a prime spot with a prime view of Bear lake but not prime on the food. After 2.5 hours of driving we were ready to chow. Forget the diet, let's get good grub in a lil'ol town. We're talkin onion rings, fries and the house burger. The fries were so overly saturated and the onion rings were so oily it had no flavor other than pure saturated fat taste. We also ordered a turkey burger, it came out as a turkey sandwich with sliced turkey not a turkey patty burger. Calling it a turkey melt would've been more accurate. Our family stopped in for a late lunch and we're not impressed. The sandwiches were small, overpriced, and doesn't come with anything: no fries, no chips, no pickle, nothing. The staff were very young and quite rude: we were not allowed more than three ketchup packets. Really? We won't be back. I would recommend you avoid this place if you want anything other than shakes. The shakes, only in the area other than at the koa, made with hard ice cream, were really good. This is the only redeeming quality. First off, the wait was 45 minutes. We ordered shakes and loaded fries. We received the shakes at 20 minutes then the fries 25 minutes later. I normally love loaded fries and I prefer cheddar cheese but it was liquid cheese and the fries were pretty soggy by the time we got them. There was a pretty good amount for 4.95. The Loaded was fries cheese and some bacon bits on it. Sorry but I wasn't impressed nor will I be back. I didn't get a pic but the others are accurate. There are several shake places close by. I'd skip this and move on. They may have been short handed but if they were a notes stating that it may be a little (A LOT) longer would have been nice or a comment at the register so at least we didn't sit there thinking that we'd get our order any minute. We came here on a fairly slow Monday afternoon after Raspberry Days. There were a few people waiting for food but no line. It was a rough experience. The young lady taking orders did okay (although my experience with her went downhill very quickly). It took a very long time for our food, and even longer for our shakes. When my husband went to check on the shakes, the girl at the window ignored his question and shut the window on him. He waited there. When she opened the window, he asked her again. She said, shakes come later, and shut the window on him again. Come to find out the shakes were done and melting in the back. So, my husband got our melted shakes and sat down. The cups were super messy, so I went to the window this time to ask for spoons and more napkins. After knocking at their window a few times, I opened the window myself to see if I could see some spoons and napkins and get them myself. I couldn't, so when a girl walked by I asked her for spoons and napkins. She gave me a look and grabbed the spoons, then asked me with a load of attitude what else I wanted. I chatted with the manager. He was young but kind, expressed concern about our experience but it sounds to me like it's not unique. I will not give this place another shot. Now or ever. We come to bear lake every year. My advice would be to stay away. Shakes weren't that great anyway! And lunch options were limited. Oh! One more thing. Burgers and fries were ok. Kids chicken strips were alright. Pretty sure these shakes aren't world famous. The service was extremely slow and the shakes were served dripping all over the sides and messy, they didn't even attempt to clean them up. They just stuck napkins around the sides of the cups. Having 4 kids eating shakes, we really didn't need them messy to start work. Napkins, straws and lids all seemed to be in scarce supply. And the cherry on top, the bucket under the sink in the bathroom to catch the water was pointless since they hadn't emptied it, it was just over flowing and making a huge slippery mess. Very odd experience. We were very lucky to arrive when we did. The food was fine and the shakes were great. However, right after they filled our order the kids that run this place closed the order window to take a 30 minute break. During that 30 minutes, which was around 3p on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, I counted well over 100 customers walk away irritated that they shut down. Who closes a business during their busiest time? As we were leaving and they still hadn't reopened, I went to the back door and asked the kid about this and he said that they really had to clean the back up & they've been working so hard all day. STUNNINGLY BAD IN EVERY WAY. Ok, I know this is just supposed to be a glorified fast food joint, but really? I swear this place is actually a high school class project and not a real business! That's the only explanation. Worst "bacon cheeseburger" I've had in many years - mostly stale, untoasted bread with a small, dry "Angus" patty and a smaller, weird square of bacon-like product in the middle, slathered with ketchup. (Why are they putting condiments on my burger that I didn't ask for?) Cold, tasteless and unappealing. The fries tasted like the oil in the fryer came from someone's car, and looked like the remnants of an hours-old batch. Of course it took over a half hour to deliver this culinary treasure as well as my wife's "burger" and my daughter's "grilled cheese" (hopefully the quotes are self-explanatory). The service is either comical or enraging, depending on your mood: - I asked our "waitress" if she could clean our table when she returned after seating us. Well, she did come back with a wet towel and did engage in a few wiping motions but, upon encountering a particularly stubborn ketchup stain, she gave up. Yes - she actually stopped cleaning our table and left half of a ketchup stain there once she realized it was going to be too hard to clean! And she knew we were watching her!!! - My wife went to fetch some mayonnaise. (Of course, their condiments consist of the little packets in a big basket near the counter - nothing on the tables - which makes you wonder if the owner just asks the employees to bring in whatever they collect at other fast food restaurants.) My wife did spot some plastic bottles of mayonnaise behind the counter, but when she asked one of the girls if she could have one, it took a consultation with another girl followed by a minute or two of intense problem solving by both of them before they both hesitantly agreed to take the risk and allow her to have it. - My daughter asked for a sample of gelato - from the display case bearing a sign with the words "free samples" plainly written on it. The girl she asked responded with a confused look and the reply, "Um, I don't know how we do that but the girl who works this counter will be right back." (No, I'm not kidding.) I sincerely hope that this pathetic place goes under quick, as the property itself could be made into something potentially great. Whoever owns/runs this ridiculous excuse for a business clearly does not belong in the restaurant industry. Maybe it's just too hard to find decent help in Garden City in the summer - I don't know. (Trust me, these girls were shockingly and profoundly unintelligent.) What I do know is that Jake's Place serves up the worst food and the worst service you'll find anywhere. read more

Don't waste your money. We came during Labor Day weekend, so there was a wait which was to be expected. The wait would have been fine if the food wasn't subpar. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger which was ok but overpriced for what you get. The shake was good however, I ordered the raspberry cheesecake shake, when I picked it up they had made the wrong order. I told them and they argued with me saying that they made what was on the receipt. I told them the cashier entered it wrong but they refused to correct the order.
